Yes, he is a really helpful fella. I have two Necos. One at gain 5 and he set the other at 3 for me. I prefer the gain at 3 since the adjustment is a little more subtle with low impedance headphones and it's still powerful enough to drive the Sennheiser 650.
I still really like this amp and it;s tough as old boots. You could run it over and it would be ok.
With the 8610 it has a fast sound and lifts headphones somewhat to a better level. Better transient attack and just feels as though it's coasting all of the time. Great little amp.

Low impedance power supplies and normal cables work as well as one sided shielding. Microphone cable is symmetrical and needs the shield as the earth. We are talking about VERY low level signals there and they do not need unidiRECTUMality. Line level signals are best passed when the output impedance of the source is suitable for the input impedance of the next stage. This is called impedance matching and ignoring it changes the sound by changing the frequency response as well as adding some other nasties.
"In electronics, impedance matching is the practice of designing the input impedance of an electrical load or the output impedance of its corresponding signal source in order to maximize the power transfer and minimize reflections from the load."
Spend your money on resistors or transformers and you will have much better fidelity than using microphone cable in ways it was not designed for.

Well....... Had Neco V2 a couple of days now and I wouldn't be without it!! There is a definite more tightness to the bass and I would say the overall imaging and seperation shows an improvement also. I am using it on the move as a very portable amp. Cowon D2 in the back pocket - Neco V2/front pocket - Grado SR80i's and loving it. Also have a pair of Ultimate Ear buds which I have not tried with it yet but will out of curiosity.... Also being used as bedroom listening which is now even more joyfull! Will also be taken whenever away be that work/hols/day trips...... The thing is not only sounding good but also I love the look, always loved that minimalistic simply approach with all my musical equipment aonly as many buttons/knobs as you need and its built solid to say the least with good finishing. If the Neco V2 needs some running in and I am assuming it does then things are just going to get better!!! To say I have caught the bug is an understatement Still looking to in time try a 2nd hand X-Can V2, want to find some good price to quality over ear noise cancelling headphones. That aswell as already thinking about upgrading the SR80i's to some 325Ris or similar come xmas next year......... ;D As for now I am ripping even more of my old music too put on the D2......I can't help myself now!! Happy days BmxArgH The only thing I am sad about is the state of record (or music stores or whatever the younger people refer to them as now)shops these days, I used to to walking in and looking for a whole list of stuff (as I tried again today) but if you want anything slightly of the track of mainstream you best stick to online......

Excellent combination IMHO, i use the same combo with my Portapro SE`s or Senn HD25`s, try this download from Jamendo:- www.jamendo.com/en/album/25366. Its free and sounds brilliant on this combo, or any combo for that matter. Mick.
