So today I finally modified and repaired my x-cans. I ordered the whole package and installed it with my father. Now retired, he has some 30 years experience soldering many measuring devices for concrete factories. He taught me how to do proper soldering today. I thought this job would be more difficult but there is logic to it. We replaced the socket and potentiometer as well as the caps, valves and diodes. My x-cans are good for another 20 years! Hi Nando, Well done, I'm glad it went without any difficulties. Give it a few days for the caps to form and you will hear a big improvement in the sound quality. Mike.

I was always auditioning / reviewing opamps, it was my "thing", (check back in the archives and you'll see what I mean), it pretty much went off the boil for a while thanks to "spec sheet" reviewers who based their findings purely on what the "data" sheets said to them.
I am REALLY looking forward to reviewing the new Orange Discrete Opamp, designed by the renowned Ade Emsley of Orange amps. Orange approached me because they had read some of my opamp reviews relating to "audiophile" gear and also clocked onto the fact that I "too" don't pay much attention to the spec sheets and prefer to use my ears as a measuring tool.
Orange are sending over TWO of their Discrete opamps..... one for me, one for you..... so any member interested in trying the new orange discrete opamp out, send me a PM.
I have chosen the amp I am going to audition the Orange Discrete Opamp in and more on that when I have the opamp to hand. It's essentially two identical amps in one enclosure with a split lead to the headphones so "instant" AB comparison is available at the flick of a switch.
Orange will be shipping the two opamps to me in the next few days and I really am up for it (I hope Leo is too!).

Actually...... they missed a good marketing opportunity..... "the electronic pet that shits". Tired of walking your dog to its normal shitting area? Shoot it and buy an electronic dog. Electronic Dog can have it's walks pre programmed by the owner thanks to built in GPS....... Electronic Dog has a 5 litre shit tank installed and you can fill it with any form of excrement you like.... want to shit on your neighbours lawn? Take a dump into the electronic dogs tank and send it off to deposit your load on his lawn. The dog will get the blame but YOU know it was YOUR shit that crapped on his lawn..... all done under stealth mode with electronic dog GPS technology (patents pending). Much more fun than a "poop free" pet?

Pets without the poop? I wonder if the electronic cat market ever took off?
Give me a electronic Asian / black / white GIRL (I'm not racist) that doesn't nag and obeys your every command and I'll buy 20 of them.
Electronic cat? Why would you want one of those daft things? Real cats are annoying enough (boot up the arse jobs) but why would you want a "pet without poop"? The best bit about owning a dog is letting it take a shit on your neighbours lawn (neighbor if you're a Yank)..... a "poop free" pet would be no fun at all.

Why is the pure white girl being introduced to a pure white electronic cat? That is SO racist! She should be playing with ethnic minority cats / refugee cats / criminal cats to gain a real understanding of the multicultural cat society. White girls playing with white cats....... totally unacceptable in these great days of multicultural cat acceptance.... Shame on "FurReal Friends", clearly a racist electronic cat manufacturer

And as for the white moggy in the Purina cat food advert! Disgustingly racist! Why didn't they hire a cat of "colour"?

Hi Mike I am not ignoring you just suffering from the pleasures of rural broadband which required a new router before a problem with the exchange was diagnosed!! The parcel has arrived thank you and I hope to try some rolling later on. Didn't have time to give them an audio check Dave.... all were free / used.... the Philips 6922 measured stronger than any "new" Philips 6922 I have ever measured so it is possibly the jewel in the crown The markings on the Philips valves are SHIT...... rub them with a duster and the markings disappear / awful! I stopped selling them because of that..... they looked "used" the moment you took them out of the carton / markings made out of icing sugar. See how you get on with them David.... remember, they are all used but good. The 6922 JAN / Philips measures better than a new 6922 and is perfectly matched per triode.......... quite a strange occurrence Viktor is still off the radar and that can only mean one thing........ He isn't able to find any valves for me..... worrying. Best, Mike.

There are dog adverts and there are dog adverts... Some are harmlesss fun others are not - the Andrex adverts are clearly racist otherwise they would use a black or chocolate Labrador. Totally racist Dave..... I think there should be a lot more adverts featuring black dogs, Islamic dogs and half breed dogs

200 hours on the T50RP with plasticine tweaks and they are the ONLY pair of headphones in my armoury that I would seriously miss.
Short and sweet..... AWESOME! after 100 hours...... my review in a nutshell.

Chris, The Fostex T50RP are well worth a punt, especially if you perform the plasticine tweaks: rockgrotto.proboards.com/thread/8832/fostex-t50rp?page=11They were superb after the plasticine tweaks but I didn't really take to them so they ended up out in the workshop doing 10 minutes a day listening to matched valves to ensure they "sounded" good after being matched on the analyser..... they were out there for two YEARS! They are now back indoors because a strange thing happened..... they started to sound better and better out in the workshop (I mean BETTER and BETTER) and, at first, I put this down to the different batches of valves sounding better and better...... nope. The T50RP diaphragms obviously took a fair while to bed in but now they are fully broken in..... wow! The best pair of headphones I have ever heard / period. The plasticine tweaks took a decent sounding pair of 'phones to a VERY good sounding pair of headphones but the break in period has taken them to a magical / utterly eargasmic pair of headphones. I should have realised that at the time..... I was (am) always a great believer that headphones require a period of time / usage to "form", just the same as it takes a pair of new shoes to bed into a foot. Where there is movement in a material there will always be a relaxing of the material..... everything has to find its' working state. Drivers, straight out of the factory, are tight and not used to stresses and strains..... it takes a period of time for them to relax into their actual working parameters. 2 years for the T50RP but only 120 hours if I had thrashed them on a loop (high volume, without clipping, Album on loop). My two year ten minute (some days) break in / bed in (at MOST) equates to 365 x 2 = 730 x 10 minutes = 7,300 minutes so: 7,300 minutes divided by 60 = 121.66 hours or 121.66hrs / 24hrs = 5 days on loop at a loudish level without clipping. I'll send them over to you Chris, as they are, and you can have a good listen..... can't do fairer that, Have a GOOD listen and take your time. I don't want to sell them, I have fitted a 1 metre cord and done the sheep's wool / plasticine to suit my own personal requirements but I'd like you to have a listen. Let's just say..... they totally crap on the big boys from a great height PM or email me your address Chris, I'll pop them in the post. Best regards, Mike.

Beyer 'phones may suit your ears Chris..... the DT990 Pro / 250ohm has real nice synergy with the V2 and the bass extension will make your toe nails curl. It looks a little drafty for overnights in the Winter. Dale, your command / usage of the English language is absolutely exemplary but the English for a breeze that reaches your hollyhocks is "draughty" and not "drafty". Draughty is pronounced "DRAFTY" so, YES, "Drafty" is easier to understand and bastardise but "DRAUGHTY" is the correct derivation. A draft in English = A preliminary version of a piece of writing. A draught = A current of cool air in a room or other confined space.
