anybody got any? Reviews? I really like the look of these and, if the wife isn't looking, I'm very tempted to get some but I would appreciate some honest opinion from you fellas with ears as opposed to PR companies… Whatcha got?

Yes, they're an expensive mistake to make.
If we got 10 together and all paid a tenth towards cost of one, we could all try them and perhaps then donate them to RG who could sell them to highest bidder and use the proceeds to pay for RG to run.
Just a thought that would enable everyone interested in them to try them for a short period.

Dale Thorn made some interesting remarks. He is one of the banned people from the other side.
Curious as I am I still think it is too expensive...

Where did Dale make the comments? On the other side? If it wasn't glowing, he probably got booted for it!

I see the words 'HD 25-1 killer' bandied around a lot, but the general consensus seems to be that the sound is only slightly more refined than the HD 25-1, given the $100 premium for the DT1350.
I'm still loving my relatively new pair of HD 25-1, so perhaps I'm a little biased in this situation...

Thanks for that. I read some of the other reviews too.
Personally, I'm not keen on the Senn px100 II. Not clean enough in the top for me. They feel almost like a little headphone trying too hard to sound full sized! I hardly ever use mine.
The Beyer does interest me, but the price is a bit high for a portable with that thin wire.
I also use Senn hd25 which is very good. I can only use it for short periods before they hurt my ears though and I'm curious as to whether the Beyers are easier on the lugs.

well thanks for that fellows, I'm still interested myself and if somebody wanted to get a few of us together to crack in some money to buy a pair we can all try then I'm up for it.
Somehow, I get the feeling from reading several reviews that I will like these but as Ian said, it's an expensive mistake to make if I got that wrong so I'd rather try them out properly first.
Cheers guys

I had a pair way back in June which I scored for 179 €. I liked them quite a lot besides of their comfort. Technically it's quite good but I couldn't stand the clamping on my ears. Instead of buying one you could ask Beyer to send you one for a Test/Review run. They are doing this right now for the second time with the new T70 on Hifi-Forum.de. Also there is still the T1-Test going. Beyer seems to be a very kind company so you could give it a try.

I reviewed them recently (same unit as Dale bought - he sent it to me) - I found them a bit dry and a little off in tonality compared to some other headphones but a marked step up on the t50p and much better balanced overall. There was some suck out in the upper mids that squished it a bit for me. The new HD25-type clamping system was much better than before. Inner Fidelity did some FQ charting for the same unit (now reviewed about 10 times on different sites lol) and found the square wave to be nigh on perfect (Tyll does like to be rather flamboyant though in his review).
For me it was a good headphone, a better headphone than the t50p, but not a 'great' headphone - just the tonality was a bit off for my taste but others loved it.

Marcus, since you have the ATH-ESW9 how do they compare? I do like the looks of the DT1350 but at $300 plus S&H I am not sure I would spend the money on them. I rather spend it on the HE300 by Head Direct. Cheers!

I rather spend it on the HE300 by Head Direct. Cheers! Miguel I prefer the esw9 even though the DT1350 is the more balanced headphone. I just adore the warm tubish sounds of the esw9 and its slightly superior sound stage. The DT1350 was a tad more congested to me, dryer and a little off for my personal tastes in tonality. The highs are not as rolled off as in the esw9 though, probably cleaner sound on the DT1350 but it was just the dry tonality I could not get around. The bass is punchy without being flabby or bloated also on the DT1350. Most people seem to rave about it but Dale and I found it to be, whilst better than the t50p, not as good as we had hoped. I put my experience down to just taste in tonality and not any technical deficiency. I find it very hard to settle on any portable headphone to beat the esw9 except maybe my beloved Sony PFR-V1

Funny you should mention the Sony PFR-V1, I remember trying them a couple of years ago. Very nice sounding but a bit "weird" looking and the fit was a bit off for me. My favorite Sony is the Qualia in medium but I cannot afford it. My 2nd favorite Sony is the MDR-FF1. bluetin.com/catalog/images/sony/mdr-f1/MDR-F1.jpg

I put a rubber grommet inside the loop and then the mic cover on it and it worked great. Beefed up the bass a touch. I on the other hand have no issues looking like a complete ass in the street with these on but for the fact they have zero noise isolation so finding a good spot in starbucks to relax usually involved a corner somewhere The Sony R10 bass version - now that is some can to try, if only BTT: the DT1350 is technically excellent, just not my kind of tonality.

At least $4,000 USD for the Qualia and more for the R10, in good condition of course. However I would not buy either since as far as I know there are no spare parts (drivers) available.

so, do I take it that only Ian and myself feel like contributing towards a pair of these for us to have a go with?
If so I'm afraid that may be a bit steep for an experiment, a few more of us and it may become a viable possibility, what say you all?

I have had them and passed them on already.

If so I'm afraid that may be a bit steep for an experiment, a few more of us and it may become a viable possibility, what say you all? I felt that we could help Mike pay the Grotto bills and keep it running without adverts by say, getting 20 people to have a go and let them end up with Mike who could sell them second hand and use the proceeds to pay for RG. I just felt that it was a cheap option to allow us all to at least try it and because we're all pretty careful, the headphones wold be perfectly useable for someone if they wanted it second hand and we'd all contributed a tenner. Don't think people are keen though. I just thought that it would be better than making a mistake by buying them and not liking them. I don't think Beyer see us as important enough or big enough to warrant a loaner. Ian

I do not mind contributing. Is there a plan or will contribution proposals remain merely suggestions?

At the moment just a suggestion since only 3 are interested I think.

I was interested in the DT1350. I just don't like the price compared to the basic HD25 and stock K181. I might buy it if I feel I can justify it.
I really dislike the non-detachable cable.

Just bought one.
I hope the little guy and I can get along. Demo in the shop said it probably will. Racked it up to HD25, SRH840, DT770pro, KRK and some other HP's.
It is in no way (except for concept, divisible headband and earpad type) comparable in any way. a quick listen (30 mins) told me it was closest to a DT770 but with good bass better in quality and quantity) and really present and forward mids. Nothing stood out except it sounded really good and by far the best of the bunch to me personally. In the coming week I am going to test drive it at home because above impressions are only from a very noisy shop with unfamiliar music.
My main concern will be wearing comfort/fit I reckon.

The only possible negative I heard in the DT-1350 was an emphasis in the lower midrange, which Marcus described as a "dry" kind of sound. Since then, I have heard that it improves greatly on its sound with the right kind of amp, so whoever has one I hope they can try different things and reply back here what they find. BTW, I thought the DT-1350 had the best bass I ever heard - lean and tight, but really good.
