Alex also endorsed EAC earlier in this thread. I've also tried SPESOFT which is free ripper for flacs. Little difference to my ears. The only thing i would add is that an old CD ROM seems better at ripping than the modern DVD writers I have. I particular impressed with the Yamaha units though thats down to the Audio Quality master recording thingy when burning CDs.
Re optical/coax, I prefer optical off a computer to remove power hum. I'm not though up to explaining this.

Plextor CD Roms are highly regarded. I've got a relatively old (6 years plus) offboard "Emprex" CD writer and it's a BRICK of a thing.... very good machine indeed

If you have itunes it does a good job and is simple to use, just insert CD and import to library...... Seems to do a good job for me with WAV settings and it's free...

Mike. I think maybe Candy isn't reading through properly, I was alerted directly that they needed my address and 'phone number, that I had already sent with the payment BUT, repetition doesn't hurt AND at least they checked back

Candy is very fastidious (which is a good thing) and wants to ensure you all receive your packages as quickly as possible.... I will let her know you are on holiday Claus.... You should all be receiving your Mini APE's next week, I hope you like them

Hi Freddy I've been using EAC for ripping flacs for a few years and found it a bit fiddly at first but persevered and it has go a bit easier to use. interesting that you've found older ROM drives better for ripping from. me too and mike's take seems to confirm this also maybe down to the old boys being able to support direct streaming from the disc rather than being caught up on the buffers of the more modern DVD drives. My old ROM give much better results with EAC. than my CD Burner. I've also read that the TEAC drives are good but can't confirm that (yet) I hope you enjoy the Ape and will be interested to hear your thoughts. i was soooooo tempted to have one but resisted the urge (so far) take care

I can confirm that the "Emprex" is very reliable (mine is the internal version) and although a bit slow has been working perfectly and accurately all these years...
and I can also confirm that the Teacs are also good...(at least with the experience that i have had with them in about 7 different pc setups).
Software i use is EAC, Foobar, and iTunes...

I'm suitably impressed with the speed of that delivery. It's beaten packets from both the UK and another part of Spain that were sent a day or three earlier.
