Coming shortly.... The AUNE "Mini APE" player! We are getting an exclusive preview / test ride of the APE as soon as it comes out (end of October, beginning of November) Fresh from the jungle comes the Mini APE! You have already witnessed the Panda, now it's time to witness the Mini APE in all it's chest thumping, macho glory! This will retail at $300 USD. Not as large as the "BIG APE" player but the Mini APE claims it can do the "full" Tarzan, just like it's Dad. Can it? All will be revealed soon.... the Mini APE is on it's way to Scotland and I am all ready to receive it at the Pinko Zoo It's a bit unclear what the Mini Ape actually does but, from my sources at the Aune sanctuary for musical apes, it does the following : The mini APE is a high quality HIFI CD player, it does not need to frequent to change the CD disks. It can support a large volume of U plate and SD card, support 24bit documents and 192k/CUE with digital broadcast. MINI APE has remote control function ,it use the top WM8741 chips, sweet voice, dynamic broad! MINI APE combination with the mini AMP can become a small Home Audio system!!ok... fair enough.... I think I've got the gist of that..... I'll try and get more info on "storage" capacity etc. Mike.

Just what Alex needs a digital media player! Miguel I doubt that this unit will do what I require, but I will withhold judgement until I see further details. It would need to have either Toslink or Coax SPDIF Out, at the original resolution of the stored files to interface with my SC DAC, which will be far superior to the internal DAC. Many otherwise interesting units downsample the digital output to 48KHZ That's not a criticism of the Aune design,. but just that there is only so much power supply improvement etc. that you can fit inside a unit that size. If it was able to accept a USB pen as well as a memory card, that would certainly make it more appealing to me, as I would otherwise need to use a USB external gizmo to write to the memory card. That alone would be a source of degradation. This unit could very well be a big step up for many people. Let's wait until we see Mike's report. Alex.

Looks interesting, I've been playing about with a QA550 SD card player . It doesn't have an internal dac so you have to plug a separate external one in by co-axial , toslink or I2S direct. Its not user friendly at all which is a shame because the SQ is very good, has to be WAV files (no hi res stuff).
Anyway if the Ape is much more user friendly than the QA550 it should make a very good product. I presume going by the name of the unit it'll play APE files ?

It's been in China/Hong Kong for a while now. early version? en.hifidiy.net/Home_page/200910/t20091019_2249.htmBeen developed on the Chinese forums since 2008. It was IDE HDD, DHCP or Static IP. I was looking at it early this year, but at US$599.00 quoted without HDD, it was very expensive for a USB/Network player. It did have coax and optical outs. Runs on Linux. Let's see what version 2 is like.....

You can see the Mini Ape here at the Aune stand at a recent Chinese Hi-Fi fair.... Candy tells me there was massive interest over it: Here are the other Aune products that were at the fair: I will be speaking to the owner of HiFiDiynet on the phone next Monday so if you have any questions you'd like me to ask then let me know.

If this can play 24/192 and output it untouched by co-axial this would be great would make an excellent partner for a hi-res dac

Dunno quite what happened last night Ian, one of those very rare occasions when I woke up in the dark and couldn't get back to sleep.... turned out quite good though as I spent an hour talking to a girl in China (the Panda girl).... first time I've used MSN messenger to actually "talk", it was great They have been "fully testing" the unit before they ship it to me, I'm really looking forward to it too! It's a bit different to what I usually listen to music through so should be fun

Perhaps as described in another thread in the DIY area, or perhaps Mike may make something suitable available ?

I can assure you that Candy is a female Ian I have spoken to her on MSN messenger voice chat... she has an incredible command of the English language, a LOT better than my knowledge of Chinese which is, basically, chop suey and egg fried rice
