can't moan at that price guys, looks a decent bit of kit, its hard to make out the chips especially for the analogue section, nice to see the ESS hardware for the video section looks to have a proper 4pin XO for the clock too, better not mention mods just yet eh Keep us updated how she goes after more run in time Would you like to see some real "close up" shots Leo? If it's a nice day tomorrow I'll pop the hood and take her outdoors for a photo shoot Mike I would be interested in seeing some close up shots too, if you can stop those hands from shaking ! Serioiusly though, if you get a chance, connect your DMM on the AC range between the earth side of an RCA output socket and something that is earthed properly. Alex

Will do, but if you want one making let me know, but honestly, its got a lot of "burning in" to do before it comes close to what i`m familiar with listening to.

Mick, me too but for those who have a £199 budget it's a "kick ass" bit of kit Let's not forget that this forum is all about finding the best VFM at "all budgets" Mike.

By the way...... that was one of the best transactions I have ever had online (apart from the one to one personal types) Audio Affair UK delivered big time. Their online "parcel tracking service" is pretty on the ball, as are their customer service "Agents"..... I will definitely deal with them again

A quick update.
I left the NAD cooking overnight and it's starting to make the right noises. There's a bit more weight and impact to the bass and the treble has lost it's sibilance and gained some sparkle. The mids are still a little recessed. It's still a good way behind my Arcam but it's sounding to my ears like it might get there in a few more days. This morning I found myself getting into the music... Always a good sign.

Yes, a good sign Toad...... I was actually "tapping my feet" last night listening to Kraftwerk "minimum / maximum" which is always a good sign! I left her on standby overnight but have got her playing again now so will put another 12 hours on her today....... Will try the DVD later and see how it fares

Mike Why on earth would you want to use composite video ? I assume that as it can use a SCART cable, that if set up correctly in the menu, it is most likely using RGB,(component video perhaps as another possibility?) which is better than SVHS, and even better than composite video. You would need to check both the player's manual and the TV manual to confirm this capability. Perhaps I can help: Composite video - Chroma and Luma signals mixed togather. Will need a very good 3D comb filter to separate it before the signal can be used properly by the TV. SVHS - Chroma and Luma already separated. Just input into TV. Using the composite video or SVHS output will depend on which comb filter is better. If TV comb filter is better, use the composite video. If player comb filter is better use the SVHS. Component video - broken down into even better RGB signals. As Alex had said, even better than the composite and SVHS. DVD signals are natively RGB unlike LD and earlier formats. SCART, if I'm not wrong, is already component RGB video signal. So you don't need the component cable. SCART is the European version of component video. There are adapters to convert from SCART to component and vice versa. I'm not sure about whether SCART carries audio signals as well like HDMI. HDMI - Carries all digital video and audio signals in a single cable. Should be the ultimate std for HT except for the high jitter which the std conglomerate is trying to reduce. SCART is analogue signals for video. Does it carries analogue audio signals? That I'm not sure. DVI - An "older version" of HDMI without the digital audio carrier. My zero cent worth here ..................

gee lost me when you didn't use HDMI ;D Robert, I've only just got the damned thing and, unfortunately, it doesn't come "bundled" with a whole host of exotic cables..... I will purchase them ASAP, once I get used to the machine and it's functions ;D

No worries the machine sounds interesting and I suspect it's more a conspiracy that these cables are not included so that we're tempted to buy really expensive cables.
waiting to hear your report on the video playback preformance
