These players came with V2.8 firmware installed and as far as I was aware there were no updates for the firmware..........
WRONG! there have been several updates which have ironed out all the glitches / improved things and I have got my hands on the V3.9 firmware direct from NAD so if there are any T585 owners who want to update to the latest V3.9 firmware let me know and I will send you the details.
Mike.

I have a question about SACD, so I searched rockgrotto for SACD. I am not sure if I am in the right place, but here goes: I find myself with a handful of SACDs & would like to hear how they are meant to sound. I read in the NAD T535 specs 192kHz 24 bit audio & in the Yamaha BD-S677 (BluRay, SACD, DVD-A etc) specs 192kHz 32 bit. The demo model Yamaha is dearer than the 2nd hand NAD. Is 24 bit c.f. 32 bit significant in terms of SACD reproduction? Will I be able to hear the difference? My current CD player is a Musical Fidelity X-Ray & from time to time the HDCD light shines on my X-DAC. Although with one of my Norah Jones SACDs it does & the other it doesn't. Any thoughts appreciated, although my behaviour is more likely to be based on wants, not needs. Attachment DeletedRecently added a second X-PSU, X10-D & X-CAN v2, which came in 1 eBay lot, because I wanted the 10-D & therefore needed another PSU. The v2 is allegedly a step up from my existing X-CANS, so I wanted that too.

I think its "superior" sound quality comes more from the sampling rate than anything. It will go through a different internal DAC than the 24 bit content. To my ears it is marginally better than CD but 24 bit audio "can" sound quite a lot better than CD, it can also sound unimpressive. Not sure what purpose the 32 bit part has because as far as I know, none of the playable media that the Yamaha mentions is more than 24 bit. Maybe someone else knows better.

Or to answer the question you really asked.... The NAD & the Yamaha will both play SACDs using the internal DAC suitable for SACD's which will have nothing to do with 32bit. The Yamaha will not sound better due to there being a 32bit DAC on board as the SACD will not be using it. The Yamaha "may" sound better if if it has better audio circuitry than the NAD.

Hi,
I just found this thread and I'd like a copy of the firmware as well. Will this fix the fact that you can't connect the unit through a receiver with HDMI? I am trying to connect the unit to my receiver and then have the receiver connect to my TV, no picture. If I connect the unit directly to my TV I get a picture. Anyone else recognize this or have any solutions?
Also, my NAD is regionfree, will updating the firmware affect that?
Cheers B

Mike. What a revelation. Like others I thought it was 'as shipped'. Would be very grateful for the latest firmware (not least to get past 1080i !)

In the absence of any reply here, I emailed NAD and they kindly and promptly supplied the firmware and instructions.

Hi I recently bought a used NAD T585 DVD player, and the sound is just awesome :-)
It does have an issue with the HDMI output though, the image is purple and flickering at times.
Tried cleaning the port, using a different cable, different TV, no change. VGA output works properly.
Anybody has an idea of what could have gone bad?
