Maybe it could be inspiration for a new song (I lost the K-Song somehow)
This thread will fizzle out and posting will stop eventually for the same reasons other threads stop.
What's thought what was needed to be said had been spoken. Who knows some might have learned something. I did, Shaun mentioned a similar experience too.

The K song was actually performed too!! Big instrumental bit where I just vamped on the piano on the recording. You know the real title had United Nations Twit added but I left it as K. (Twit was also a vowel altered to something else!!!) I actually no longer have it since it was just me messing around on a dictator. Mike may have a copy since I put his name into it. K himself didn't appreciate my art unfortunately, but he was my target audience in effect so it had the desired effect. You are right - maybe I should write a new one!! Then I'll make a Wav and FLAC and you can all start arguing over file formats in order to become Audiofile Flatmates. And there's the title ...... 'Audiofile Flatmates'.

Ian I will never give in here, because people like yourself, with a trained ear, have already confirmed that rips with identical checksums can sound different. You even went to the trouble of sending me a new copy of a classical work where you had heard the original master and the later CD, to rip for you and send back to you via Filemail. Those rips from back then do not sound as good as the rips that I am now able to do, and return as uncompressed Zip files. Kind Regards Alex

Frans Get over it. I have been doing this kind of things for around 4 years, and .flac vs. .wav since 2005. TBH, I no longer give a rat's anus whether you and a few other closed minded sceptics believe me or not. I am heartily sick of the repeated sarcasm and unworkable demands, and that is why I chose to contact Martin Colloms. You have had several years to work with me in this matter, but have been more interested in trying to silence me than finding out why. If the HFC results as published are positive, then there will inevitably be further investigations arising from that. The genie will be out of the bottle, and you will just have to either try and find out why, instead of why not, or keep wondering. Alex

Alex, by give in, I don't mean agree. I mean just the arguing.
You know I suffered with EE's way back when, and imo the results of their knowledge didn't help the CD's at all. The excuse offered was, 'that was the technology of the time and not us'. ie; they were working with technology as it was in the 80's as far as digital recordings went so in their knowledge, they were correct in doing so.
Since then, digital has rocketed in terms of quality and modern day recordings are far superior.
Of course the argument will be that the numbers were the same, it's how the numbers were treated afterwards but what I'm saying is that I was kind of bullied into accepting that was the best that could be offered at the time, when my ears told me something different.
What got to me though, was the EE's couldn't hear the difference and thought the recordings were pretty good and were in fact accurate.
That experience kind of made me listen to my ears and not just fountains of knowledge. Knowledge goes as far as the technology allows us and once that is accepted as the best that can be done, then there's no need to listen for better!!
Equally, I see the benefit of measurements in order to compare and in this case, it could be something perhaps other than numbers. I don't know.
You're quite right, I did hear differences without knowing what you were doing. That's kind of puzzling and I don't understand others not hearing it as well after I heard it. I know that once I had identified what to listen out for, it became easier to hear.
However, I was trying to stay out of an argy bargy that will continue until some tech guy comes up with an explanation perhaps. I don't think Frans is yer man. Until he thinks there could be a difference, no help will be given in trying to explain it. However, if someone comes up with some kind of idea as to why it is happening, my guess is that Frans would investigate in the light of new information. Kind of retrospective rather than proactive. So I feel it is a waste of time.
The recording you did for me was indeed one where I heard the original and the live event. My memory of the sound of both the recording and the event is not what was on the CD. The CD was 'glassy' and 'lary' sounding whereas my memory was that it was a warmer sound. Whatever you did, brought the warmth that I remember back to a degree so it is perhaps doing something that brings back what was indeed originally there but gets lost somehow in the CD/digital process.
It kind of makes me wonder whether it's worth boosting frequencies at the original end in order to get CD's to come out 'right'. Like the old FR curves (RIAA) that each record label used. The funny thing is that each label had its own signature curve as well - so even that couldn't be agreed on.
The argument will go on and on and I hate to see people falling out over it. One day, perhaps something will be spotted so that it will become obvious to all.
Until that happens, the earth stays flat and then the flatness goes to another level!!
I'm trying to keep out so that at least one mod remains neutral or else it becomes quite difficult should it get out of hand and you feel the need for a further 'clean up'.

Ian I fully appreciate your position, and only posted that reply to illustrate why I will not be silenced by the sceptics. Kind Regards Alex

Ian I fully appreciate your position, and only posted that reply to illustrate why I will not be silenced by the sceptics. Kind Regards Alex OK Alex. I understand how you feel let down by someone who you felt could help find out what is going on. However, the fact that you aren't believed means that Frans is unable to offer an explanation. He also wouldn't accept my views on sound unless verified. I am an unreliable source to objectivists. Equally Frans, I understand that it's clear cut numbers and algorithms are just that. No magic. If understanding of digital develops I also feel that you would then be able to prove why this is being heard. I also understand that you wouldn't accept my version of what I heard since it is totally unscientific. So it's a no win situation. Also, two admins going at it isn't 'setting the example' that Lark kept whining about either.

Anyway, just to get back on topic for a moment: Chelsea DID win against Stoke, but it was hard work and this doesn't bode well for the game against Napoli on Wednesday (in which we are already 1 - 3 down from the first leg!).
Perhaps, if all you chaps could channel your energies (currently tied up with various arguments in this thread) into thinking positive thoughts about Chelsea on Wednesday evening (KO 1945 GMT), you could influence the result?
Just a thought...

Hi Johhny yup it all looked like pretty hard work against ten men but lets look on the bright side at least we're not playing Bilbao and we'll have a rested Fernando for the Napoli game. you never know 8-)stranger things have happened. take care

Shaun
Yes, I forgot to pick up on your earlier reference to Bilbao. I was amazed at how good they were on Thursday evening: running, harrying, chasing, passing -- how I wish more of our team could play with that energy and commitment!
Anyway, to Wednesday: fingers crossed!

Yes Johhny and it's worrying how far our football has slipped. most of the top Spanish sides have a good youth policy and get their youngsters all playing the same way from the start. we need more of that here and less of the instant hit mentality. it was so easy on the eye on Thursday night. just soooo slick fingers and toes crossed. take care

I don't think I should contact John about this.... ;D genuinly curious b.t.w. Frans, don't be like that, you know you can always talk to me or ask questions - it might get heated but there are no grudges held. This is just disagreements in strongly held opinions by both sides. It might seem personal if I feel that somebody is just trying to win an argument & not really looking for answers. Anyway, you can see that the results were no better than guess work RESULTS TEST 50% said #1 is the Batt/Fid 50% said #2 is the Batt/Fid #1 was AC #2 was Batteries+Fidelizer+Process Lasso Around 50 people downloaded the files, but of those 12 people published their findings and 2 didnt find any difference. As of the ghost file just, there was just 2 answers, none of them correctly. Most of the people percieved track one as brighter, in my computer it also sounds brighter but whimpier, thin, although it sounds a little brightier is missing a few harmonics above. Marcin_gps said: My pick was correct I replied: Good guess then jplay.eu/forum/computer-audio/ripping-findings/

O.K. thanks for the update John.
Statistically speaking it appears guess work, BUT one could also argue at least half of the people that replied actually heard it correctly and the others heard a difference but had a preference for the 'wrong' file. The presence of the ghost file isn't helping as only 2 entered it ? (and got it wrong)
It would have been interesting to see what would have happened when asked to pick x out of 10 for more statistical relevance. I do admit this is tiring and should span over several days of trying perhaps. One or both 'knowns' are 'allowed' and won't affect these results.

Sorry, chaps, but I just had to get this thread back on track... Unbelievably wonderful. Hi Johny well at last we've made it (still getting over the shock) TBH i feel a little sorry for the Spurs fans (i know that i should not but fairness is a weakness of mine). they where the better team this season and deserved the champions league place IMHO. i remember thinking that it was harsh when Liverpool squeaked in as defending champions and still feel the same way. still we've won it at last lets hope for some new blood next year take care

When you say new blood - Do you expect he to fire Di Matteo !!. for new blood i mean some new players. IMHO Di Matteo has done a great job but with the current owner that won't count for much. he wants to see the Team playing style changed but that's going to take quite a bit of doing with the team as is. let's hope it all works out.
