I matched you up some VALVES Jeremy and posted them today, should be with you next week sometime..... a vintage reserve 1969 6H23N, a 1986 JAN Philips and a 1989 6N23P-EB..... all genuine NOS, transconductance, gain and current matched to within 5% per side..... have fun All the best, Mike. PS: I'm not saying that ALL Americans are unable to fight (due to fast food overload) but the "next" generation will be easy fodder for the "inevitable" mass Asian assault on mainland USA If I am still alive (when they start marching) then I've got your back..... I'll be out there beating the crap out of them..... I don't have a lot of confidence in today's Western "youth" tho, the "west" has never been so weak. These guys should find it quite easy to colonize you again

I'm very happy with the appearance. I did some tiny mods... Added heat shrink to the posts and screws. Sound was amazing right out of the box. I'm hoping that the bass gets a little deeper. Very crisp though. I wonder if the lack of bass is related to the cheaper HD555's I use... The volume dial is worth the upgrade by itself! lol! It's responsive without being uber sensitive. Unlike the indeed, it also flows more freely, helping avoid the accidental eardrum blowout. The finish on the top is much cleaner around the edges, and the PCB is beautiful.... The piano black finish appears to have been blurred a bit during soldering in spots, but the workmanship is amazing. The LED, while purely cosmetic in nature is a cool addition, and the fact that it will glow amber makes more sense to me than blue or red. I really had to press hard to get my ZU RCA cables connected, which made me REALLY nervous, but everything appears to be OK. The switch is horizontal, which makes it easier to get to. If I was seeking portability, I might opt to use the indeed because its switch is flush, but as this is for the night-stand, the switch on the PS works better for me. The silence is beautiful. No distortion to speak of. I haven't noticed any cell phone interference. My wife and I have been facebooking incessantly on cell phones since the Casey Anthony verdict (glad that's over, back to the economy). The Bass does seem to be gradually gaining some kick, but the ole kick drums still lack that thump... Time will tell as they burn in. You more experienced guys will have more knowledge on this than me, but I say burn baby burn so I can here the full glory. I've had the indeed for some time now, and this sounds better right out of the box, which should not be a surprise. Afterall, it was made with better components and design improvements were made, both leading to a big difference in price. If I had it to do all over again, I would opt for the Project Sunrise rather than buy the Indeed. I don't regret having the Indeed at all, as it allowed me to cut my teeth a bit, but I'll likely have it modded by garage1217. The money would be better invested in the PS, IMHO. I also thought it was extremely cool that they didn't needlessly promote their website all over the device.

Right on man! Appreciate the feedback! Set the output resistance via the jumpers to 10ohm and see how you like the change with your hd555's The change will be very subtle but see how you like it or if it makes a change for the better to you on your cans. But before you do, give her a good listen for a few days The 555's have never been known to be bass heavy, but are more neutral, leaning to the bright side slightly but not in a bad way. Give the whole setup a little time and enjoy! The amp definitely has the ability to play deeeeep so no worries on that part. She can tickle my eardrums using my 650's down around 30-40hz, especially with kick drums. Appreciate your notes on the build quality I spend a great deal of time hand assembling each unit, down to details like aligning each resistor so the value shows and lettering is facing the same way... and making sure each component is as perfectly centered or aligned as possible to the component next to it. Not something you will find in most mass produced equipment... She is very lovingly assembled On the RCA's, they are tight for sure but also rock solid so they will not bend or break off the board which is the reason I chose them. Quite robust for a PCB mount and the toughest I have found!

Seriously, it shows. Cheers! I'm not touching a thing until it has 100 hours or more on it. You've done great. It is a tremendous value for the quality, turn-around time and options. I'm very proud of my unit and will sing the praises for as long as it elicits them, and with the quality I've seen so far and the confidence I have in the warranty, that's likely going to be a LONG time. Plus it's nice seeing something made in the USA kicking some arse

Hi Jeremy, The feedback is, as expected , very impressive. Even though I have a fully Fransified G2 I can feel myself getting tempted . ATM I have a HK buffer amp clone being built for me, with a C.H. Amp waiting in the wings to be built, so can I ask if the Sunrise amp is going to be a long term offering or just a one off? Dave.

Hey Dave, Sunrise will be around for awhile so no worries!
Also to note as I was asked in PM, Texans amp pictured above was customized with double stacked heatsinks which is optional / not required but definitely does drop temps which never hurts.

I completed my Sunrise kit #0002 last night. Construction took about 3 hours working slowly and carefully.
Packaging of components is the best of any of the many kits I have build over the years. All labeling matches the printing on the board, so it is nearly impossible to make a parts mounting error.
When I first did my "smoke test", everything lit up properly, but I was unable to set the bias, as the trimmer controls had no effect.
Jeremy quickly suggested that it could be due to the particular tube used and there was a very easy solution. This proved to be the case, subsequently the amp worked flawlessly.
The sound exceeds my expectations in all respects. Unbelievably, the Sunrise powers my HE-6 effortlessly with the volume control set at about the 12:30 position.
I find that the 10 ohm resistor setting seems to provide more bass impact with the phones I am using, and feel that the tonal balance across the audio spectrum is ideal. Soundstage is expansive with excellent imaging, both in width and depth.
I am currently using a Philips E88CC Miniwatt tube and am pleased with the performance of this tube with my inventory of headphones.
My sincere compliments to everyone who was involved in bringing this fine amplifier to the marketplace!
Ron

Jeremy, I sent you some "proper" valves midweek so you should have them next week sometime.... these "toob" thangs are OK for people living in the colonies (keeps them amused) but for serious listening you have to listen to "valves" I am going to send you another one.... a brand new (NOS) 1963 vintage Mullard (Blackburn factory).... beautiful tone and NOT a valve I sell, I am sitting on a box of them and will probably "die" before I sell any of them...... Just thought I'd give you a taste of the old school UK sound All joking aside, the PS is a lovely amp and it has GOT to be the DIY amp of the year (in my books).... It trounces the Chinese offerings (similar topology) in both build AND sound quality and takes this particular design to totally new levels... You and Frans have done an amazing job on this amp and I congratulate you both.... This is a now a "reference" point for the Chinese to copy...... That's quite an achievement guys! I wish you the best of success, the PS is the Dog's Nads IMO. All the best. Mike.

Right on Mike! MUCH appreciated! Cannot wait to check out some of your super toobs Not sure why we all use the term tube here, just part of our language but will try to keep the valve terminology here on this site I had several hundred super rare / desirable valves years ago, Sold most of them off as I did not think I would use them.... VERY sick to my guts that I did that as I know I cannot get some of them back In short, things like valves... unless one has a large supply... NEVER get rid of a single unit even if you do not like it much now, you may in the future with a future build!

PS... I would love some free valves... Think of it as a charity case... Imagine, for less than a hundredth of a pence a day, you could send a valve to the needy in Texas. LOL!

More kits will be ready to ship 7-14-11! Order up a pre-built amp anytime! PM me for info! Hi, Jeremy Thanks for being so accommodating in handling my order with all my special requests, etc. I am excited about putting it all together and enjoying it soon! Mick, I couldn't help but admire your fine work as shown in your photos of the Project Sunrise. By the way, I finally, after a long delay, last month finished all the 'Fransifying' mods on my Indeed G2, including the addition of the beautifully made by you aluminum bottom plate. The effort was worth it, but from what I am reading in this thread, Jeremy's/Frans's joint venture new amp promises even higher SQ. I look forward to get my hands on it! Cheers! Israel

Hi Israel,
Pleased you are happy with your moded G2, and seem to be happy with its sound quality, i still really enjoy mine to!!.
The Hybrid is certainly a nice little Amp and a dream to build, with such comprehensive building instructions, even i found it a breeze.
I haven`t carried out a direct A-B comparison yet with the G2, but my initial impression was, that it seems to have a more revealing clinical sound, but still retains "warmth", a characteristic of the moded G2.
I will allow a few more hours burn in on the Hybrid before i do a direct comparison, it certainly suits the HD800`s very well indeed to my ear.
I am sure you will enjoy building, and be more than happy with your Sunrise, both SQ and general appearance of this bargain Amp are of the highest quality, to my mind.
Mick.

Hope you like the valves and, yes, they haven't been out of their boxes since the day they were built apart from when I had them out matching them for you. Mike.
