There's an offer I can't turn down, Mike. I had a look and I'm not sure what options to ask for!! There are so many. It certainly looks good and believe it or not, my Bravo died of crackle and my Indeed burned itself to death!! I bought another version on Ebay which was awful so I threw it as far as I could, so the opportunity to get an improved version is very attractive. What options should I choose on that list? Ian The Indeed and Bravo (all versions) are SHITE compared with the Sunrise Ian.... I'm sorry, but, there is no other way of saying it. Don't even think of comparing them to the Sunrise.... they are "good" amps but the Sunrise is a LOT LOT better (and I mean a LOT LOT better).... it will blow your mind (guaranteed). Jeremy (very kindly) sent me one of the latest boards over (the black and gold one) and it's yours (free of charge)..... I have no plans for it as I am more than happy with the "one" Sunrise amp I already have so just ask Jeremy for all the parts required to populate it PLUS the top and bottom plates. I don't want to fit my own parts just in case I mess the balance up.... this is an amp that doesn't need tweaking, it's perfect in stock kit form.... so ask him to send EVERYTHING required to populate the board (volco, valve socket, resistors, caps, sinks, THE WORKS) I have a few 24V PSU's so will give you one of them PLUS the PCB. I'll get my Sunrise in the post to you tomorrow (hopefully) Via special delivery so you can get an idea of just how good it is with the DT-990 Please remind me of your details... I STILL haven't written them down Mike.

What? Chocolate, nuts and ...... whipped cream? That'll get Frans guessing. Ian More importantly..... the "whisk" is actually whisking them..... that's the best part about this amp! You will not believe the subtle nuances / hidden aspects of the mix that this thing reveals..... it's pretty incredible

Jeremy is here on RG isn't he Mike? I could pm him perhaps and let him know what I'm up to 'cos all of the options are there with a board, so you'd still end up with a spare. (apart from me!!)
I've pm'ed you. It looks really good and a bit more substantial than the little Bravos and Indeeds to say the least.
I am absolutely hooked on the DT990 now. Quite strange because I really didn't like it much way back when I first heard it.

Nope, I am actually dying to try the Sunrise amp. A friend in Fort Myers has one and I will soon listen to it. As far as the DT990 I listened to an older version of what you have and they were nice sounding, much better than the normal DT990 I had.
Cheers.

Sorry Miguel, I can't get used to my new role on here and pressed the wrong thing!!!!! 'Quote' and 'Reply' are a close thing when you're a mod. ;-) I can't get used to the idea that I am able to access everyones' messages - I'll get it in the end!!!! I must admit, Mike has me curious now. The DT990 was a surprise to me and not as I remembered it, Miguel. As Frans has said, it could be quite different now or my tastes have changed over the years. Also, I have some decent amps to drive them now which would make a difference to the dynamic range obtainable from them. (Once again, thanks to Mike's skill in modding and his 'guiding' my listening with amps and comparing what he hears with what I hear - That has been an education in itself!!) However, it is the matching of amp to headphone which seems to be the secret. (At least on the end of the chain) It's better imo opinion to consider the amp and headphone together rather than just the headphone. Frans impedance matching device taught me a lot about matching and the subtle effects of even getting the output impedance right. I was lucky enough to have the device for a few months which gave me plenty of time to test matching of amps to headphones and I also learned that a very small difference can be quite large in the long term, which is why I sometimes feel that the so called strengths that we point out with equipment can turn out to be their Achilles heel in the end. OK in the short term, but not right for the long term. It's something that I have recently taken much more seriously in my descriptions. ie; not an immediate 'gut' reaction, but use the 'gut' reaction and see how long you can live with that reaction and whether you still agree long term. (Reviewing is an art imo) The Sunrise sounds terrific and from what Mike is saying, a good match with the DT990. I'm getting all excited about it now!!! It looks beautifully designed with air above the heatsinks and a bit more evidence of capacitors on the back instead of that 25v effort on the mini Chinese amps. It also sounds like it's going to sound like a roller coaster while eating chocolate, nuts and whipped cream!! ;D Funnily enough, I kind of understand that description. ( It's a dynamic amp to say the least, with an organic, healthy balance that plays into the DT990 strengths of good, solid, impactful, bass without detracting from the clean, distortion free treble that the Beyer produces. Not to mention the pinpoint spacial clues that come from the headphone, given the correct kind of amplifier to drive it) - 'Craigy's Gourmet Guide to Hi Fi - a must for all critical listeners. I'm thinking of publishing and being damned. £4.99 from all good bookstores or £1.99 for Kindle. I'm really starting to think it's time to take up the soldering iron again but the wife's carpets are a life threatening risk to me, plus the fact that my eyesight ain't what it was and I'd probably make a dog's ear out of it. I have built synthesisers in the past but I've also been taught just how far electricty can throw you in the air and have a fear of seriously electrocuting myself through ignorance or a soldering error!! I know my limitations - always have done. Ian

I've had my DT 990 Pro's for a while now. At this point, it's interesting to look back and compare my current impressions with what I've wrote at the beginning. The DT 990 Pro's have become my main headphones since then and I have sometimes problems to switch to other headphones, because I find them to sound boring in comparison to the DT 990 Pro's. IMO the sound signature has mellowed out somewhat since I've bought them. Especially the treble is better now. Initially, I've preferred the Neco BOSSFET V2.1 over the X-Can V3 to drive the DT 990 Pro's. Both amps sound great with the DT 990 Pro's, but 990's have showed a somewhat sharp top end at the beginning with the X-Can V3. The BOSSFET didn't show that at all. After continued use, the heaphones have a smoother treble now and the X-Can V3 sounds absolutely spot-on. The sound signature is warmer than that of the BOSSFET. Even with the "clinical" AD8160's, I don't find the BOSSFET to sound cold though. I like both amps very much. Currently, my preference is the V3. I'm listening also a lower volumes than I did initially. The 990's sound great at all volumes and you don't have to crank the pot up to the dead stop... Even with the great VOVOX cable, I can hardly listen to the K702's anymore. I miss too much with them. I'm looking for some adapters for the K702's (and the 990's) because I'd like to make tests with them at 120 Ohms output impedance. I guess the K702's will benefit greatly from that (while I think the 990's sound also great with a very low output impedance).

A good friend of mine has bought DT 990 Pro's upon my recommendation.
His first impression was good, but he has used the 'phones only a few hours so far. He has only an unmodded V-Can at the moment, but I'll borrow him one of my tubes amps for some time.
I'm really interested in hearing his opinion, since he produces also his own music and is (like me) a lover of electronic music.
Currently, I'm using my DT 990 Pro's mostly directly plugged into the headphone output of my ASUS Xonar Essence STX PCI-E card. I don't need an additional amp between the Xonar Essence STX and the DT 990 Pro's. The built-in amp is really great, the stock opamps are a very good match with 'phones and on top, I'm able to change the output-impedance of the headphone amp (three possible settings). I'll have to search for and good (and cheap) 1/4" TRS extension cable. The coiled cable of the DT 990 Pro's is slightly to short when plugged in at the back of Micro-ATX tower case which is placed on a desk. I can use the stock cable without problem, but 1-2m additional length would be absolutely perfect for this situation.
I can get the DT 990 Pro's for 155CHF at the moment. The price has dropped substantially again (pricedrop form 179 down to 155CHF).

That makes the price quite keen. It's €10 better than anything else I can find and £20 better than any UK price. (ignoring delivery charges)

I havent really reveiwed my dt-990 pros other than talking about them before I got them back near christmas. and after somthing like 5 hours of listening to them EVERY day since I unpacked them on christmas morning... i think I finally have them burned in, i listen to alot of electronic dance music, and these headphones and my ears are loving every minute of it. this is the first time in my life that I smile every time I put a pair of headphones on. they are so comfortable i can sleep with them on (I don't though because music makes my dreams trippy) and Iv'e only run into one issue with them, the cable retaining clip came loose and was shorting out the left driver, which was a simple pop it back into place repair. the sound quality is, of course, the best I've ever heard, it is so good infact that if I hear distortion i get a little upset because it ruins the great vibes coming from those amazing beyerdynamic drivers. it actually makes me a little sad to see that this is the quality I've always been missing. the bass is deep, punchy and responsive, and i can swear i sometimes feel it in my feet and legs, the mids are so pleasant, over bearing when they need to be, subtle when they have to be, and the highs are so... sublime. nothing has ever fed my head with so much audible power and with such mind opening dexterity as these headphones.
