SFI 990, modded HD681, HD650, DT990 in that order. portable: KSC75/35 and V-Jays with HD25 pads.
I really like the fit, finish and sound signature from the better Beyers. never heard the T1, but perhaps in the near future I will. The T50P was disappointing, hoping to audition the DT1350, this one might be better.
If I wanted to fork out a bit more.. probably a D7000 or some ortho.
About the choice HD800 vs. T1, might be down to personal taste. You will have to audition both to experience sonic signature and fit/finish as your preference may not be that of someone else.

I like the T1 better than HD800, not because of the SQ, it is more the signature of the phones, where the T1 fits my taste better, they also feels a bit faster.. If anybody decides to get beyers take a look at hoved-fi.dk/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=85 members get a 10% discount, I have not got the faintest idea if you can get it cheaper other places.. Oi, how much? This thread got me interested ........ The danish shops can not compete with your local shops in Singapore, but it will be 6300 danish kroner, normal price is 7000..

Actually I heard the D7000 side by side with my own HP's and other jewels when I visited 'proglover'. The D7000 were exactly like I would like a headphone to sound (personal taste indeed). I simply do not like the idea of having to fork out that amount of cash for one of those. The D2000 MIGHT be an alternative but have to hear it first, hard to find secondhand. Since I want to hear it before I buy it, I will have to find one pretty locally.
I like to find/use the cheapest good sounding cans. There are not many of those around that I personally like by the way.
I don't need to be in sonic Nirvana or need/want to achieve that, I enjoy music anyway, not looking for the final drop and having to pay relatively huge amounts to achieve that.

DonĀ“t get me wrong the 7000/5000 are very nice phones, but they just seemed a bit far from your other things. For me the JVC DX1000 is the better one as I like the bass and midtone better in them, the highs are vey similar.. Like you I like those unsong and cheap heroes..very much so indeed..

The DX1000 appears to be in the same price range as T1, HD800 and D7000 (when found at a nice price)

Beyerdynamic, I have the DT48E and DT480. The DT48-series is a love or hate headphone though...

Jup.. I hate the spiralcord on the pro models Maybe they scavenge the coiled wires from old used telphones so they can keep the price down. ;D The spiral cord IS a love/hate thing. I like it for having less cable mess with most applications, but I don't like it because sometimes the upper beginning of the spiral part gets caught at the desk. I'd appreciate to have removable cables (like K702 or HD650). BTW: No one noticed the new T70's? Probably the followers of the DT770's. I'd expect also a T80 and T90 in the near future (replacement for DT880 and DT990). T70's are clearly below T1 price range.

Beyerdynamic, I have the DT48E and DT480. The DT48-series is a love or hate headphone though... Which DT48 are we talking about? There are SO many variants of it. From 5 to 600 Ohms. From 1937 to 2011. wiki.faust3d.com/wiki/index.php?title=Beyerdynamic_DT-48Quite possible that all those DT48's sound rather different. My ears have been tested with a DT48A.00 in 1994 (prior to my military service). I remember them very good. Ugly and probably the least comfortable 'phones at all. They are still NOT cheap. Claus: thomann.de sells both the spiral and the straight cables as replacement parts. Those that like a "Pro" 'phone with straight cable could do that. Even together with the Beyer leather bag for 20 Euros, it should be cheaper than the HiFi counterparts. My new DT770 Pro's sound very good to me. I've mentioned that already, but I forgot one thing: They sound good at low to moderate volume levels. At higher volume levels, the DT770 Pro's get too bassy and fatiguing. Since they are closed-back, I can listen at very moderate volume levels, while still having a good bass. They remind me also somewhat of the HD650's, because they are not as toppy as the AKG's for example. If possible, I'll get the DT990 Pro's this week. Really can't wait. How could I miss them?

DT48E-25 ohms probably from the eighties...
If you can appreciate the DT48E it can be a fun listen. This model is a bit of an ugly duckling in the Beyerdynamic product line.

SFI 990, modded HD681, HD650, DT990 in that order. portable: KSC75/35 and V-Jays with HD25 pads. Heh, heh, the hunch is correct at least in the "unportable" highend side. Now more and more HP auditions inorder to catch up with you guys here. So far away .......... as in Dire Straits' So Far Away ........ About the choice HD800 vs. T1, might be down to personal taste. You will have to audition both to experience sonic signature and fit/finish as your preference may not be that of someone else. No quibble on that. X2 ..........

Yup, surely in the HD800, PS1000 and LCD 2 range. Hmm, just which is better? I will have prefer the LCD 2 but for the unreliable customer service and HP. I was told that someone have one for less than a year and kaput. Any more comments from all those who own the LCD 2 for a better understanding of the situation surrounding that comment. Thanks.

The D2000 MIGHT be an alternative but have to hear it first, hard to find secondhand. Since I want to hear it before I buy it, I will have to find one pretty locally. Actually, quite simple. Go to the hifi shop or any Denon showroom to audition. Also, get an invitation for a can jam or attend hifi shows in which Denon HPs are featured. After, buy secondhand from ebay and so forth .............

Alas.. not that simple. The Dutch importer doesn't have one in stock (they only order when a shop has ordered one) nor one that can be demonstrated. There are no shops within a reasonable distance from me that have one in stock either. Haven't really searched that deep lately though...

I like the DT990 Pro's. I'm already sure after the first few hours. Probably they are still changing slightly for the few hundred hours, but I don't expect a suprise. The DT990 Pro's (250 Ohm) are very similar to the DT770 Pro's (250 Ohm), but the sound signature of the DT990 Pro's is clearly "open", while you also hear instantly that the DT770 Pro's are "closed". It's a very comfortable listening with the DT990 Pro's, they are good for listening very long. A bit exaggerated treble and bass, but the bass isn't boomy as the DT770 Pro's can be at higher volumes. The treble of the DT990 Pro's feel also slightly softer. The sound has a few similarities with the HD650's, but it differs quite a lot in some points. The treble is different, it feels more open with the DT990 Pro's. The bass of the DT990 Pro's is deeper than that of the HD650's, but both have their own advantages. The sound of the HD650's is smoother overall, while the DT990 Pro's are more focussed. I like the DT990 Pro's more than the HD650's at the moment. At least partially, this is because they are new. I'm sure that I will appreciate my HD650's very much after NOT listening to them for a couple of months.

The amps from Meier Audio have also often a switch or dual output for low-/high-ohmic headphones. I don't know if Jan Meier is altering the output impedance with that or if only the gain is different.
Neco's philosophy is a bit different from that of Jan Meier. His designs avoid the use of many switches. The BOSSFET has two (jumper selectable) settings for different gains. No switch for that since it is another source of errors. Sure, a switch would be convenient, but it don't care because I use only the lower gain setting which is still enough for all my 'phones up to 300 Ohms (=> Senn's).

I'll try to listen to more Beyer headphones in my preferred audio store. They have some Beyer's on display.
I'd like to hear the DT 990 Edition 2005 (250 Ohm) and the 250 Ohm versions of the DT 880's (both the Pro and Edition variants).
My main goal is to determine which variant (Pro/Edition) I like more (in case of the DT 990's) and also if the DT880's are something for me.
Since I have holiday, I'll try to listen also to the various other headphones they have on display (some AWFUL Sony headphones for example... just kidding).

Hi Christian, I find the DT 770 bass too much. It's a novelty but eventually it gets to you!! Because of that, I much prefer the ATH a900. It's a more balanced closed headphone imo. Easier to drive and very comfortable. I'll have a DT990 soon so I'll compare it with the K601. So far, I've found the 601 about right for me, but a little more bass wouldn't hurt. I had a DT990 years back and didn't like it at the time. I felt that it was sucked out in the middle and the treble was a little strange. Not toppy but kind of 'shusshy' sounding. However, it seems the newer versions may be better. I look forward to comparing the DT990. If it's similar to HD650 with more extension in the treble, it might be just the job!! Ian
