"The RIAA defines acceptable frequency losses for LPs as down to 20 kHz after 1 play, 18 kHz after 3, 17 kHz after 5, 16 kHz after 8, 14 kHz after 15, 13 kHz after 25, 10 kHz after 35, and 8 kHz after 80 plays." I think I will stick with my CDs ! Who are the RIAA? Who plays the same LP 80 times?

I've never listened to an LP 80 times in a row..... that would be an 80 hour long listening session!

I don't want to sound sceptical Nigel, but 80times; 80!!!! I would estimate I've played my favourite albums maybe seven times. There is so much music out there and listening to one LP over and over means less time to hear the superb new bands that are releasing albums 'this year'.Get yourself a PROG magazine; you'll never listen to another album more than seven times, I promise.

I would say that 2014 saw the release of fifteen classic Prog albums. I tried to hear most of them and these artists are responsible:-
Galahad, IQ, Pendragon, Riverside, Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Touchstone, Mostly Autumn, Pink Floyd, Panic Room, Abarax, Osric Tentacles, Omnia Opera, Hawkwind, Hawklords, And You will Know Us By the Trail of the Dead Coheed and Cambria, Muse, Jeff Wayne, Rick Wakeman, Marillion, Yes, Millenium, Mystery most if not all of these have a new album out!!!

You have missed the best prog album of 2014, Transatlantic "Kaleidoscope."
Unquestionably, I have heard Steely Dan, "Gaucho" at least five times a year for more than thirty years.

Be aware I'm more prog than most. That's where i come from. I have seen all the greats. I have all the classic albums. I don't bother with the second division.

I'm with you on that Nigel. There is VERY little modern prog that stands up next to the classic period, mostly looking like a pale immitation of the greats.

Perhaps it's just our age, Chris. I have to admit, there are very few new bands I'm interested in.
