Amazing that you are still looking (and finding!) new ways to improve the v2. Something that could never be done with most modern day amps.

Wow, very cool. My daughter got a cd/mp3/radio player when she turned 6. To be honest it sounds horrible and the money indeed would have been better spent on some separates like these. Then again, not sure she would really appreciate it, not having the same obsession with buttons and dials that I had at that age

Having an easygoing Christmas here with a walk, a father in law, a game with the kids and roast chicken. No pressure, just quality time. Now for Doctor Who.

It has taken it out of me BIG time and the "older me" is finding it hard to bounce back (like I used to do) more on this when I manage to get myself back online. I agree, getting older might make me wiser but definitely less flexible. A better understanding of what I want and less tolerance for muppets, contribute to that. Sorry to hear about your week Mike, hope things look up next week.

Just watched the video with Ken. I get the feeling the copper didn’t recognise him! Even I do and I’m not even british. Then the copper doesn’t seem to grasp what Ken is explaining: the police work for the public, not private corporations. How hard is it?!

Got the episodes lined up to watch asap. Heard many good thing. Not sure about relocating to the moon, been watching Star Trek Enterprise series recently and living in space seems like quite a hassle.

True, a lot of boards seem quieter. For me visits to a board like this depend on how much I am thinking about “head fi”. Sometimes I am just content with what I have so visiting a board like this is a bad idea as it only creates unrest in my head

I changed my setup a bit and sold the Xcans which were the reason to start browsing here. I do miss them but they weren't practical for my new setup. Mostly use my Denons while on the computer and have a Cambridge Audio XS thingy for that. They sound fine but not great as the Xcans did. Regardless I like this forum, it has something special so I like to snoop around so now and then.
Sorry to hear that there were some disagreements. I must be hard to see friends leave.

Not really audio related but theoretically it might be interesting to modify or hack these devices you speak off. However if you really believe this stuff then it might actually be a good idea to visit a doctor. Just saying.

Small setup change. I’ve sold the Musical Fidelity B1. It’s a very nice and musical amp but I felt it might be lacking in definition. The guy that bought it of me also bought my Aune mini USB/DAC, which I found a poorer HP amp than the X-Cans (could be the match with the Denons of course) and the DAC part was a bit colder than my DacMagic. With these funds I bought a (good as new) Marantz PM 7004 to match the CD 5003 I have.
Interestingly enough the HP output of the PM 7004 sounds very, very good. Bass via the X-Cans can be a bit bloomy and wobbly and is tighter from the Marantz. This is definitely first impressions as I got the amp this weekend but it will be interesting how this pans out.

£365?! Ok, that is new but still seems slightly inflated... I wonder how the new HP range is working out for Denon, to me they look horrible and trying too hard to be 'with it' or something.

Anyone know how much the Denons go for now on ebay?

I am extremely happy with my Denon AH-D2000 on my X-Cans (V1). And the Cans are unmodded as yet so things can only get better. Sound is very lively and engaging, a pleasure to listen to for long stretches of time because the sound is pleasing and because the Denons are very comfortable. Other combos tried are the Aune Mini USB/DAC Headphone amp and the built-in sockets of Musical Fidelity B1, Marantz PM 80 and Marantz CD 5003, all less pleasing. Another user speaks enthusiastically about the same combo in this thread. I’m sure there are other great suggestions but this is the one I have and what I am very happy with. Good luck.

Very sorry to hear about your granddaughter Alan. I remember sitting in hospital with my two year old daughter once and being so relieved to know that she would get the attention and treatment she needed and that we would not have to worry about the costs because of a proper system of health care and national insurance. I too feel sorry for the Americans.
Anyway glad to hear things are on the up, it must have been quite an ordeal for her and her family, including you of course.
And on topic: as someone who never properly listened to classical music, let alone has a decent understanding of its history, I really enjoyed the BBC TV serie Howard Goodall History of Music. The last episode covered the 20th century and a lot of music I listen to has a commonality to things Steve Reich did so I had a listen to Music for 18 Musicians. Definitely love it or hate it music, but I love it.
