My God...... this place is more stale than an eighty day old digestive biscuit. Seems to be true of forums across the board..... a thing of the past maybe? Shops aren't doing too well either, I know of six (in Thurso) that can barely afford to keep the lights on.... footfall is way down and "sales" are at an all time low (so low they will close this year end)....... pretty sad.

True, a lot of boards seem quieter. For me visits to a board like this depend on how much I am thinking about “head fi”. Sometimes I am just content with what I have so visiting a board like this is a bad idea as it only creates unrest in my head

You sure are mate, good on you, I'm on the verge of giving up 22,000 posts on here and probably the same again on Head-Fi (in the early days of Head-Fi) you tend to run out of shit to say Head-Fi was great 15 years ago, full of really nice people but when they decided to go down the profit route and get rid of their valued posters / founder members I decided to set up this place. It was absolutely rockin' here for a good few years (as can be seen from the archives) but is totally dead these days. I blame nobody other than myself for the decline of this forum...... I was absolutely sick / burnt out / turned to alcohol and when I disappeared nobody else stepped up to the plate...... seemed to me that most members were takers and not givers in the info department and laid the blame for "no content" directly at my door. One man can't provide all the answers for everyone so I decided to go onto the back burner and take a rest. Same old Nando, plenty of people viewing but very few saying anything. No way am I EVER going back to where I once was..... that was high pressure..... it was a stage and an audience demands a good performance...... I would definitely come back if there was a band on stage with me but that's not likely to happen anytime soon. I actually don't like posting on my own forum anymore...... I never thought I'd say that ten years ago

Burn out... been there done that. Luckily I didn't do myself very much harm by means of alcohol of anything. The stress is bad enough anyway. Was your burn out due to this forum?
Rumpus, that's a new word for me. But do you mean the situation with Dale? So now I'm not going to tell you I'm a teacher... oops. Talking about a stage without a band to support you. A classroom is quite stressful to manage. That and other things burned me out. But now I'm still a teacher and doing things differently so there is more fun for me. I'm job hopping for the last years and preparing myself for some job outside the classroom. This teacher is going to leave them kids alone ;-) (some day)

I've run out of stuff to say. Not planning any DIY audio, Not planning on buying any new audio kit. I'm still a member because I enjoy reading, and sometimes responding to, the posts.
I originally joined as this site was full of info on the smaller Musical Fidelity components; I had (IIRC) bought an X-CANv3 and was enjoying reading about it and its mods, although I never did any. Went on to buy the X-DACv3, V-CANii and the V-90 DAC, oh... and a V-LPSii (edit: I forgot the V-DACii, too). So that's why I had an interest in RG.
I have felt the need to go hide behind the curtains a few times, when I have found certain views or comments difficult for me to remain associated with. And there's been one or two other issues (usually personal stuff) that I just can't be #rsed with. But, overall, it's an OK place. I log on at least once a day to see who's up to what. I particularly enjoy Mike's forays into the MF upgrades. Endless skill and patience Mike :-)
Having said I'm not planning any DIY, I do have a minor project in mind. The office-cum-studio system will be overhauled as I'm about to take everything out for a bout of decorating. I'm also hoping to get back an MF A3.2cr power amp I used to own. So this will become the heart of this overhauled 'den' system, along with my LS3/5a clone speakers, turntables and V-LPSii (I am still, and far-too-slowly, digitising LPs that are important for some reason). This system will need a pre-amp so I'm going to either improve/repair the passive one I've got, or make a new, simple, one. It'll only need one line input and I have a nice little Maplin project box that will do just fine . And if I do need more inputs, in my odds and ends box, I have a QED input switcher.
Did I say odds and ends 'box'? Actually it's a 3 drawer filing cabinet suffed with rubbish. Most of which will be chucked when I do this decorating. Anyone need any scart leads?

I'm running around the house to look for stuff I can recap. I already found a Sony ta-n220 power amp and a Sony ta-xa35 amp. The last one has a capacitor which is going bad so this was a good thing.

After having a long break from audio forums must admit I'm finding it hard to get interested in it again , also couldn't be arsed with some of the drama, far too tedious for me. I had a quick browse on some of the other forums I used to go on, seems most of them have gone stale too. This place used to be buzzing years ago, seems a shame how things have gone

Shops aren't doing too well either, I know of six (in Thurso) that can barely afford to keep the lights on.... footfall is way down and "sales" are at an all time low (so low they will close this year end)....... pretty sad. I had a dream that I woke up black, then while I was walking through a public park and several white people averted my eyes, I checked my reflection in a mirror - and holy moly - I am black. Yesterday I was white - I have the photos to ..... Oh crap - how did that happen? Suddenly my photos are all black. WTH? I still have my money, so I'll head to .... oh sh*t - my wallet doesn't have any money, but I have a card for free food. Unfortunately it expired. I wonder if other people have this problem. I'm thinking, will this get me more girls? I hope I still like girls. Dale, I'm a decent man but when you take the piss out of me THREE times enough is enough. I allowed you a free reign here and on two occasions you deleted your posts and your account. Once bitten twice shy some say.... I gave you more than two chances and here you are again? What is your fascination with this place? Bored maybe? Seeking a bit of attention? Missing some attention? I don't understand why you keep coming back..... it's all good for a while and then you go red neck central and throw a wobbly nuking your account and all that goes with it. Not a thought about others, no consideration for others, it's all about you and your opinions.... your way or you throw a wobbly and throw your toys out of the pram. I'm not going down that route again Dale, I'm not going to ban you but I would ask you to ask yourself if you are really somebody who fits in here? On a good day you are, 100% sure of that but when you go into your throwing your rattles out of your pram mode you're far from useful and, to some, quite frankly unpredictable and a loose cannon. I know what it's like, I can empathize, I was a loose cannon too (still am, just a better shot these days!). You are welcome here, you always have been, but on a STRICTLY no talk of religion, no talk of politics basis. OK? What you do with your camera is superb, your headphone reviews are superb and your sense of humour / level of intelligence is superb. I promise that I won't mention politics too, I can't say fairer than that. A politics / religion free zone..... anything else is fair game for discussion. You're more than welcome to come back Dale but STRICTLY by abiding the rules of no political discussion / no religious discussion. Your "re entry" post playing the ever so "Dale" race card was so you.... I'll turn a blind eye to that one. You are welcome to come back as Dale Thorne but if you deviate so much as one inch into nasty Dale Thorne your arse will be booted so hard. Now..... stop acting like a prick and start behaving like the man you are. Mike.

I call my favourite knob "black beauty" but that's probably frowned upon so let's call it a "non gender / non race specific KNOB" in this instance........
I noticed Tesco are selling chocolate Santa Claus figures already.... racist xenophobic bastards!

I am still here occasional, the problem is i don't have material to read that i am interested in.
It also may seem that stuff that i am interested in may be not so much of interest in these forums due to high price and therefore low price/value ratio.
I am not into bravo amps and Superlux headphones any more. Nor am i into diy so much. My Soekris DAC is still not 100% completed and i still have to make my Lenco electronic power supply. Too lazy for diy i guess.
I have said this on a previous occasion that you need to go with the flow of modern times.
Still very fond of this place and i feel that i know a lot of people here without having met anyone.
Shame it is so quiet.

I would like to have more time to post. At the moment I don’t have enough.
I’m also at the point that my (limited) free time is in the evening and then I want to use the kit and not think about it too much. I have - too a large degree - become quite content with how it all sounds and works – at least for the time being.
Also – and I find this a real shame – kit is all SMD and so difficult to work on. I’ve been trying a few USB top SPDIF converters for computer audio and they are all impossible to work on so its a case of trying the next new thing if you can be bothered – just look at the new Chord DACS as an example of the future.
Chris – the Soekris DAC looks very interesting – I know you are not finished but was it (will it be) an easy build ??.
P.S. I have a number of headphone amplifier boards waiting to be built (Chiarra etc) but no time to get them done - and perhaps no patience at the mo to worry about the potentual failure. I sort of think they are there for the future . . .
A.

It is what it is Chris, if it were anything other then I would be scratching my head. I don't have any desire to be "modern" or "go with the flow"..... if anything, I want to step back a few years, take a deep breath, stand in a meadow and remember how simple and good life was back then. I certainly don't want to go with "the flow".... the world is a very scary place these days, I'm glad I'm on my way out rather than my way in. This place will never amount to anything ever again..... people are too busy talking to "Alexa" and taking selfies..... It is what it is and THANK god I'm not part of generation B (brainwashed bastards) How are you yourself Chris? Hope all is good with you mate. It's pretty much Groundhog day with me (same as, day in day out) and one year becomes a month and one month becomes a week and one week becomes and hour and one hour becomes a minute and one hour becomes a second....... it's all flying by in a haze of sameness. I've tried to break the pattern but, really? We are all amusing ourselves in god's waiting room trying to "blank out" the fact that we will soon be dust with no memory or recollection of ever being "alive". What's it all about Alfie? It's a load of bollocks, that's what.

Well i must say things are the same, i wouldn't rate it "ground hog day" though.
Life in Greece is still good, we have sun, warm weather, nice food, and everybody is friendly, well not always but most of the time.
And that is were it begins and it ends. The country is going from bad to worse. The taxes are increasing by the day by the hour, pensions have plummeted, many thousands of businesses have closed down or gone bankrupt, the banks are not helping anyone and on the contrary are taking poor peoples homes.
There is no political solution, we have to comply with the memorandums no matter what.
There is no growth and there will not be the way this depression is going.
Only a miracle can save us.
My business is very slow people don't have money. I am still here because i like the way i live, but i may not be able to afford it in the future am afraid.
There is always my brother in the Isle Of White, but i wouldn't want to burden him or move there.
I had some health problems, got severe sleep apnea and now have a cpap machine that i am connected to every night. It works very well though. My back is very bad and at the moment doing physio. Luckily my knees seem to be holding up at the moment. My dad had a complete knee replacement 3 months ago, very successful op, managed to walk in a few days, but very painful, wouldn't want to have that done to me.
My girlfriend left me, she said she is tired of me and wants to move on. That was a huge knock, didn't expect it either.
I have stopped drinking, although i was never a very heavy drinker i used to put down a few every night, now i don't like it any more. One beer makes me tipsy. Very strange... if someone told me this a few years ago i would think it impossible.
I pass my time listening to music i still buy second hand records or my brother sends me from the UK, it is fantastic what he finds in the charity shops.
I still ride my bike went to Italy for a week this June had a great time.
That's all in a nutshell Mike.
How are you? did you have your implants done? i must say the place you stay is (looks) very secluded, do you have friends visit you? My remedy is that, when friends come over or i go to them my psychological batteries always charge up.

I sort of think they are there for the future . . . A. Hi there!! The Soekris DAM DAC can be a very easy build, if you want to add two trasformers and a spdif input. It may be more challenging if you want very good linear power supplies and start going for a good usb to i2s receiver, fine tuning, screens etc. I have been very lucky that i am a very good friend with Dimitri aka dimdim www.dimdim.gr/diyaudio/soekris-dam1021-sign-magnitude-r-2r-dac/ he is an excellent diyer. He has helped me in supplying me with all the small boards and encoding the arduino controller i am using. you can have a look in our small local Greek hiend forum (in which i am moderator) the photos of my system and also of the Soekris. Yes it is in Greek but you can use a translator. audiohub.gr/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=12Cheers my friend!

what? everything is great! so much information here. took me days to even scratch the surface. I also visit head-fi but there are too much traffic there. hard to even get a foothold anywhere. It used to be more intimate back when I joined there more than a decade ago. now not so much anymore. maybe we need to start a project to get some momentum going.
