I've been all evening comparing the 02 with the new drivers to my D2X (Unixonar 1.41 based on Asus V1794). Player is of course Foobar with ASIO as output mode. The 02 is plugged to my BT mains filer together with the CHAmp. Headphones were AKG K501. I've listened to standard 16/44.1 (some HDCD), 24/88.2, 24/96, 24/192 FLAC plus SACD and DVD-A ISOs, mostly 70s POP/Rock with some opera and classical. The different is not huge but I prefer the Musiland.

I should have left mine alone Javier, just downloaded the 008 driver, and only getting sound from right channel, and not good sound either, will try to sort it tomorrow.

Javier
I'll wait for W7 until my PC upgrade: I've got so much set up on this PC to make it the way I want it, I couldn't bear the idea of starting again, unless I have to...
I'll install the latest driver later today.
Mick
Just a punt, but when I went back to the MlCyMon_2.0.0.0_build20110727, after the MlCyMon_2.0.0.0_build20111007 hadn't installed (or rather had installed, but not worked), I found that only the left channel worked and was just about to start sobbing when I noticed in the Musiland control panel that the balance control had been set hard left. Centring it brought everything back to normal. Have a look and see if this is your problem, but the other channel.

Hi John,
Yes that happened to me when i went back to the previous software, but i noticed it straight away, and set both left and right channels to zero, its now working fine.
I gave up on the latest (008) software, just could not get both channels to work in unison, it was either left or the right, maybe its a problem with my firmware, no worries sounds just as good with the older version.
Thanks for the info John, much appreciated.
Mick.

Mick, did you adjust with the slider or with the Pan control? Now that you have both mentioned it I remembered it also happened to me. At first I thought I had done something my self but when I saw the Pan knob was turned to the most right I knew it had been the drivers and not me. This latest 08 are working a treat for me. Don't know what can be wrong with yours Mick but if you want I can take a look.

Grrr! This is driving me mad! Installing the 008 I now get the Firmware driver installing (see screenshot), but not the other drivers, so no blue M in the status bar, and this error message in Foobar "Unrecoverable playback error: Requested ASIO driver not found". Will have to go back to 2.0.0.0_build20110727 to get it working again (at least I hope this works!). Funny we're all getting different results, not funny ha-ha, funny peculiar... Attachments:

Bollocks! Now I'm completely jiggered! Reverting to the July driver now gives me the same result as the one above. Firmware driver installed but not the other 2 drivers, so no working Musiland O2 for me any more today...
Going to have to give up on this for a while, otherwise I'll end up chucking the PC out the window...

Hi Javier, Its nothing to do with the left and right channel volume adjustment in 008, they are both due north (not magnetic) and reading 0. The first time i installed 008, i could not get the left channel, the second attempt the right channel, adjusting both knobs or sliders made no difference apart from the channel that was functioning became worse. I will have another attempt in the week, but its working fine at the moment on the previous software, so no worries. John, Am i right in assuming by your post that you have upgraded your firmware, if so why!! as your 02 is a recent purchase, surely the latest firmware should be installed. My unit is over a year old, and no upgrade has been installed. Mick.

Wow John!! I got that message with the Agust driver. How are you installing/unistalling? are you doing it with the 02 connected to the PC? if so thats a no no, you must do it with the DAC disconnected.
If anyone wants remote help drop me a PM, I can connect to your PCs and have a look like I recently did to help him set up his Foobar.

Seriously pissed off with this now! No, I didn't consciously update the firmware. All I did was uninstall the (working perfectly) July driver (MlCyMon_2.0.0.0_build20110727) and install the latest one, Oct 008 (MlCyMon_2.0.1.0_build20111008) and I got the result I mentioned previously, when I plug in the O2 (see screenshot). This shows that it has found the Firmware driver but doesn't install the other 2 drivers (which WERE being installed previously, when all was well). I don't get any blue M in the status window (bottom right) and if I try to run the Monitor Series (USB) control panel manually, it goes through the motions, but does nothing. I've even tried clicking the MlCyMon.exe file directly, running as administrator, etc., nothing works. I've tried reverting to the July (build20110727), but I get exactly the same result. Ever since I installed the 008 version, I get the Firmware message shown below. the result as re-stated above and nothing more, no matter which version I try. I've looked into the Registry and when MUSILAND is not installed, there's nothing there, and only one (as expected) reference in the Current User/Software/Musiland key, when it is installed. The folders (when the drivers are installed) are all present, as expected, in C:\Program Files\MUSILAND\Monitor Series(USB), but they don't bloody work! Attachments:

John, I know it is a lenghty process but have you tried to do it like I described in post #85 in the previuos page?

Yes, Javier, that's why I'm so fed up! Every time I attempt a new install, it takes ages as I'm re-booting (usually twice, at about 10 minutes per re-boot!), and yes, I am unplugging the O2. I'm following your instructions to the letter.
I've just tried, in desperation, to install the 1.0.13 driver, but I get the same thing: the Firmware driver installed message, and then the MlCyMon.exe refuses to run, no matter what I do.

Yup, its bl""dy frustrating John, i`m currently running 727, after getting nowhere trying to initialise 008 correctly. Disconnect the usb cable from the unit, remove 727 from your computer (add or remove programs). Re-install 727 from your downloads, connect unit to usb cable, re-boot computer, should tell you "new hardware detected" just follow the wizards instructions, re-boot again. Launch Foobar, make sure Asio is assigned to Musiland 02, and is chosen for the output, should work, i will duck if it doesn`t as i am sure you could throw it as far as here . Mick. PS. Beat me to the last post!! if you send me your email address, i will send a copy of my 727 file, i know this works because i installed it a couple of hours ago, and yes re-booting is a pain for me also, as my computer running XP is more ancient than yours!!, and so is my Musi 02.

Thanks, Mick, but that's exactly what I've been doing all bloody afternoon! The problem WAS that I was getting the message saying that the Firmware driver had been installed, which was somehow blocking the usual drivers from coming up.
This is what I did:
1) I went into device manager and uninstalled an unknown device (the O2), 2) I unplugged and re-plugged the O2 but I didn't let Windows find and install the driver when I got the resulting error message, 3) I re-booted, installed build20110727 (July, the last one that worked for me) and re-booted (still no blue M, and still wouldn't run MlCyMon.exe manually), 4) I went into Services, stopped the MUSILAND monitor, re-started it and hey presto! the icon returned and the control panel re-appeared! 5) Ran Foobar, re-instated the ASIO drivers, and bingo! I have music again!
I can now relax, enjoy the rest of my Sunday and get a good night's sleep! (Things like this really bug me, I find it really tough to say, OK, forget about it, get on with your life: I become obsessive about finding a solution.)
Anyway, I don't know which of the steps outlined above did the trick, or which combination, but it's all now working again.
(If it doesn't work properly after a re-boot, I shall contemplate suicide!)

That`s great John, now leave well alone, i doubt the latest driver will sound any better, just causes frustration, software updates from the Chinese seems to be very hit and miss regarding desired results.
Mick.
PS. You can get assistance with that in Switzerland, they just hand you some Chinese software!!.

Yes, agreed! "If it works, don't f*ck with it" shall become my motto!
Thanks, Mick and Javier, for your efforts.
I can also report that it'll not be necessary to call the Samaritans: the Musiland software has survived a PC re-boot and it's still all working!

Well ladies... What about the no pain no gain motto? I'm gald you got your computers back in order. ;D If your PCs take over 10 min to reboot they are without a doubt due for a fresh install. Keeping them for too long with too many crap installs leads to that. A hardware change would also be a good idea. Todays cheapest CPU is way faster than yesterdays top of the range and a seriously poweful computer environement friednly can be assembled for less than £350 if ones gets the right parts and builds it instead buying a built one. Oh, I'm enjoying the 2.0.1 big time with its HDCD mode. ;D

2.0.1.0 is the current driver? Boy, have I neglected my USD 01... I think 1.0.13.0 or something is installed on my machine... Any improvements/changes worth mentioning?

Javier's the expert on the various updates, I'm sure he'll be along soon, but in the meantime I can offer that the 2.0 versions are supposed to sound better, as well as having a revised interface. As you may have read above, there may be some issues with versions after the July (727) one, so that may be the safest one to install. Also, I've recently come across this very helpful blog, but Javier may take issue with Step 2 on the "Official driver installation instructions" section. I also note that Musiland have now gone to an even later version (MlCyMon_2.0.1.0_build20111009.exe) but after my shenanigans yesterday (see above) I might leave well alone! EDIT: Further exploring around the blog I linked above has revealed this, which states that 007 and 008 have been deleted by Musiland (presumably because others had the same problem as some of us here) and that 009 has HDCD on/off showing on the control panel (although it has to be switched on as described by Javier earlier). I'll let somebody else try this latest version first!

So, lots of pain, with no gain!

Ok John, i`m the Guinea pig. Just gave it a try, installed fine, set to my preferences, (pan controls reset to zero, Asio set to 20m/sec, set to precision) both channels function correctly, albeit with "clipping" present in the mid-range, which i think could be damaging to HP`s if you listen at high levels. Tried a few different settings, made absolutely no difference to the "clipping". 727 re-installed sounds absolutely fantastic again, on my preferential settings Back to the drawing board for 009 as well, no worries 010 will be released tomorrow and 011 the day after Mick.

Thanks for taking one for the team, Mick!
I think it's best if we all wait for a few days (or even weeks!) to see how these updates pan out: there seems to be a flood of (unintentionally) dodgy software from Musiland at the moment.
