That’s the ones Mike. Thanks very much I’ll have the two please. By all means keep the single one, good memories. I’ve pm’d you with my address and email. If you send me your sort code and account t I’ll transfer £3 or £4 or whatever the pony express charges now from the outer wildernesses of the empire It’ll be cheaper than PayPal unless of course you want PP Glad to hear you on the mend, surprised there was no lucozade involved in the recovery, I was always put to bed and given lucozade and occasionally Enos whatever the illness or injury. Ye I’m fine had my first dose of micro chips a few weeks ago and I must say the nurse did not look at all lizard like All the best Martin

Hi Mike , Well actually the double ones that we used in the AKHA on here a few years ago but a few of those will do as I can do a pos and neg version. Yes they be fine This is the one from Greg’s website users.tpg.com.au/gerskine/greg/ (It’s under power supplies / shunt regs strangely enough) But it’s pdf and I can’t get a reasonable priced site to accept pdf to make the boards Thanks Mike PS hope you on the men’s after your fall Martin

HELP PLEASE So it appears that the pcb on Greg’s website is a jpg which is not suitable to give to any pcb makers. Has anyone got a converted file I can use? Will, do you still have the files from your boards? OR Has anyone got any spare ripple rated boards please? I’d be willing to sort out a GB or pass on any extra pcbs I have surplus from my order at cost. If anyone is interested

Hi tazzo, Mike, Pink Floyd, is the one to answer this for you, but on another forum there is some scepticism about the benefit of this theory. Some say so long as all the caps are the same way round it’ll not make any difference. I suppose you make your own choice Not so with electrolytics of course
Over to you Mike

Hi Tank, It’s all on here, everything you need to know about the RE together with bits on this site.it should give you the lot users.tpg.com.au/gerskine/greg/I was looking for some boards but looks like I’ll have to use Greg’s diagram to get some printed. I thinks (from long ago) there were some boards on dirty pcbs but I can’t find the link sorry. Hope that helps Martin

Well Mike just think of all those walks out you could do legally with that dog.lol No one posting probably ‘cause no one doing anything well maybe. Anyway now I’ve got the PSU BOM sorted I’m getting a few ripple eater pcbs printed up from Greg’s website and looking at finishing the Marsh ha. Then a new psu for the origin live speed controller on their record deck. Just got a VPI 16 cleaner so have spent a little while cleaning the vinyl. Anyone want some Trinitron X 100 surficant pm me I’ll send it at cost, although the containers are not that cheap for 5 or 10mls. Probably have pc plod calling to check on the chemical purchases from eBay, not to mention the boxes of syringes. Stay well always stay protected lol Martin

Hi all, Since our beloved leaders have ordered our house arrests 🤭 there seems to be some rather questionable links coming up on the site. Has anyone dared to click on them or are we all far to cautious? Keep well, keep taking deep breaths Martin

Hi All,
Happy New Year and may 2021 be even better than last. Not a big ask I think
Anyway been looking for a dual rail psu for a small “house arrest” project. I seem to remember when the AKHA being built there was also a psu on here somewhere (I may be wrong) by Will, Greg, or Alex and I was wondering if anyone has a BOM for it. I have saved a pix of the layout but no list of bits. Can anyone pls help?
All the best
Martin

Nice one Freddy but a bit pricey. In basic form it’s only about £250 plus HMRC duty. Worth an offer tho Martin

Bullpup Flash your lights sound the horn, lean out of window and gesticulate wildly at his rear tyre then when he pulls over smile and drive past. That usually works lol

Ha ha I have one of these Freddy. Built the kit years ago. Taken out the balance pot, improved the caps and used various op amps in it. In fact it was either you or Mike that sent me a sun or moon long ago and still works well.
Yes anyone wants a very good quality HA well worth a punt and an iconic bit of British audio history to boot
Nice one Freddy All the best Martin

Hi Collin1 ,
Listened to both v1 & v2 both had Mikes upgrades kit fitted and upgraded PSUs (used same psu on each and swapped psu’s in case different makes made a difference) and tbh didn’t hear much difference but Mike is the expert he’ll give the best answer. Sure he’ll know
All the best

Just wanted to drop a quick note to say thankyou for all your replies on this thread. I'm now giving Radio Paradise a go whilst I google the DarkVoice 336SE. Seems like it could be a good option. How much would a couple of 'decent' valves cost? How would it compare roughly with a X-can V3? I vaguely remember Mike writing a X-Can V3 > X-Can V2 etc. statement a while back, I might try and dig that out later. No comparison both are good put the DV like the Bottlehead is an OTL amp it’s a different animal, you’ll need to try one if you can. I like them but not everyone’s cup of tea A decent set of glass for it is about £35.00.depends where you get them, Mike may be able to help you but be careful of fleebay deals. Edit; should have added this Please be aware that with the DV you will need to be confident when working on circuits and have passable soldering skills. You will need to change the vol pot and add a couple of leds and caps to one valve and change the coupling caps. Look at the link on here for the work Mike did 7 or 8yrs ago on one. Sure he can do it again if he still has the bits and his work it first class The bottlehead/speedball kit comes complete no mods needed it costs 5x what a modded X Can and about 3x what a DV will cost All the best Martin

Found them, tested them and they are 100% good to go. PM me your details Martin. Hi Mike, Many thanks the caps have arrived safely. Unfortunately I have a funeral/family gathering this Friday and I guess it will be going on all weekend, consequently I’ll not get to the DV till late next week but I’ll keep everyone posted. All the best and thanks again Martin

Thanks Pingu. Does it go across the L and N terminals? Are the MOV and capacitor directional, or can they be connected in any orientation? Apologies for the noob questions! No probs 4c there’s lots I don’t know and have to ask advice on so don’t worry. Yes they go across the mains pos and neg no polarity so any way round is ok. Just wind the legs of the cap and resistor around each other then solder to each mains terminal, one leg to each side, bit of heat shrink to insulate them if you have it but not essential If you PM me with your email I’ll send you a pix of what it should look like as I have probs publishing them on th forum Maybe Mike has a shot he can upload. Good luck

Hi 4c I just install them on the mains in. A Cheapo and effective mains filter. If you have a detachable lead just connect to pins on the socket inside the amp, if not where the power connects to the pcb or tx. On another point I’d be a bit careful with thread lock on the rca sockets as I’ve had experience of it causing corrosion on the threads, the last thing you want. I must admit a decently torque up nut has always been ok for me
Good luck

Tweak one:Do you find your V2 volume control goes from low to loud fast? A big problem with the stock setup is that the volume goes from low to loud FAST with a short turn of the volume knob. Better to use the entire range of the pot (channel accuracy is a lot better at the midway point of travel)..... this simple tweak allows you access to the the FULL range of the pot (ie: low to loud SLOWLY). You will need 2 x 0.25 watt 3K9 resistors for this tweak. Fit them (as shown) and you have just opened up the full potential of your volume control PLUS (even with this very simple tweak) you have improved the sound quality Excellent idea Mike. The shunt. Shunt pot always find them good. I did this when I put a stepped attenuator in the Darkvoice and it works very well indeed. I can vouch for that, it made the DV listenable across almost the entire travel of the pot. If you rich and have the space you can use zfoils but that’s at least £20.00 not a few pence 🤭 Following this thread with interest 👍 Martin
