The tubes arrived this morning. Soldering them in the adapters has been a real nightmare, but I am not very good at soldering . Furthermore I made a mistake with the pins so my advice is checking twice. I have tried them in a Counterpoint SA-100, my DIY DAC with a Broskie Cathode Follower and in an Earmax Pro. The tubes don't work properly in the Earmax but in the other circuits works beautifully although I haven't enough time to listen carefully. Anyway the sound is very promising. Maxi Any pics? I soldered one up but couldn't get it to work. The pics that Mike posted look opposite of what the pin out shows but I'm hoping the image was reversed. I was hoping to get confirmation before trying again. As I say, it HAS to be reversed otherwise you won't hook the leads up the right way Get a printout of the 6922 / 7963 pinouts and turn the paper upside down..... hold it up to the light and then trace the reversed image onto a fresh piece of paper (do it with pencil).... this will show you the correct connections for your 9 pin socket.... as I say, confusing but as soon as you understand what I'm trying to say it gets easier

Doug, I forgot to remark that the tubes diagrams are always from bottom view. Sure you know it but I tell you just to be sure. I propose you redraw it from top because I think is easier for soldering in the adaptors. regards Maxi DOH! That was my mistake...I was looking at the diagram from the top. Thanks for the advice, Maxi...much appreciated! Doug

I do similar to Mike occasionally, even with transistors. I have even on occasion printed out the top side of a PCB, and slightly oiled the paper so I could see the tracks from the other side before etching the PCB.

Hey Mike,
Have you found a way of reducing the height of an adapted tube to fit comfortably inside an X-Cans/v2?.....Curious to try

Hey Mike, Have you found a way of reducing the height of an adapted tube to fit comfortably inside an X-Cans/v2?.....Curious to try Hi Chris, They are a lot smaller than a 6922 so about the same size when you fit them onto an adaptor.... they will easily fit inside a V2/V3 with bags of room to spare. I've got four spare and would be more than happy to exchange them for a sausage drop.... let me know if you are interested and I'll get them over to you. Mike.

Hi Chris, PM me with your shipping details and I'll get them shipped out faster than a cruise missile..... no hurry for the sausages, you can ship them via donkey express. Can you get hold of the darker coloured sausages? The lighter coloured ones were "ok" but I do prefer the darker toned varieties.... I found that the lighter toned sausages were best fried to a crisp. I'm not looking at a truckload of sausages mate and will leave it to your good judgement as to how many you ship from deepest Espana. The Sylvania 7963 x 4 are surplus to requirement and I am not seeking to profit through quality sausage "bungs" It's just a consignment of sausages from Spain makes me tent and gets my juices flowing...... I am quite a simple animal (at heart) and I gain great pleasure when a sausage drop lands at my back door Mike.

Hey Mike, what's this with the sausage swop - 7963's no longer flavour of the month? I have long been of the beleif that a nicely cured Spanish (Iberic) sausage will out perform any valve. They are a little tricky to fit properly, have to be trimmed to the correct resonance value and have a shorter life. You can fry them to increase lifespan but it changes the sonic flavour. When Mike makes a valve discovery we endeavor to compare against the latest sausage to make sure there are at least two opinions on these findings. No? Errrm; There has, for many centuries now, I think since Roman times, been a pact between the Scotts and the Spanish for cashless trade. Something that has dwindled drastically in recent times. When Mike and I discovered this fact we decided to do our little bit to reignite this wondeful trans-european tradition between the northern most part of Scotland and the southern most of Spain. No? Oh come on!

All I can say is Amén . Although I have to concede that the 7963 sounds absolutely wonderful. Thanks Mike for your advice. I am enjoying them a lot. Regards Maxi

Ha, ha! My eldest brother had one as his first car! Unfortunatley he buggered it up playing mechanic before his later apprentiship. It was dubbed the "Limp" after that

That's a very cool motor! It was also a return to good form from the design department after a couple of very naff looking designs. One of my uncles had the original Celica GT, absolutely gorgeous looking thing, reminded me of a "pocket" Mustang with even better styling! Apparently they have a new coupe on the drawing board that has a hint of the original Celica in its styling, again I thought "pocket" Camaro!

Apparently they have a new coupe on the drawing board that has a hint of the original Celica in its styling, again I thought "pocket" Camaro! Chris, It was a total waste of time doing the 600 mile round trip.... the Celica was a damned rust bucket with a knackered gearbox.... looked great "on the surface" but the underside was as rusty as fekk and the gearbox was hellish..... I took it out for a test drive and the seller was in the passenger seat (my mate was crammed into the back seat) I told him I wanted to test the lift and would need a good stretch of dual carriageway to take her into the 6 to 8K zone..... he didn't even know what I meant by "lift" and this was "supposedly" the finest example in the whole of the UK. Fekk me, I could hardly change gear in the bastard and this little flat nosed git was telling me I didn't know how to change gear and was guiding me through it.... "clutch in" (he changed the gear) "clutch out" etc. etc. etc. he was some sort of Armenian chap who kept telling me "this is a sports car, you have to get usage to the gears" Fekk off mate! I have no intention of getting used to a clapped out gearbox Anyhoo.... we got onto the dual carriageway and the guy nearly shit his pants...... I dropped down to third and redlined her in every gear up to sixth and exclaimed "the lift appears to be working!".... he was screaming "slow down! slow down! there is a broken spring!"..... turns out (surprise surprise) that one of the rear springs had just happened to break "yesterday" but a new one would be fitted prior to purchase.... What a damned comedian, I took the car back to his base and immediately went under for a look and whole underside was as rotten as an old egg..... "that is just surface corrosion" he exclaims. I told him he could stuff his car up his arsehole and made it VERY clear that I was pissed off having made a 600 mile round trip to see the "best example in the UK"....... he had a really flat nose and I can only assume that's because he's been punched in the face so often from pissed off customers.... it probably "auto retracts" into his face when it sees a fist coming His son sent me a message on the phone a few hours later saying "how dare you speak to my Father like that, you don't know who you are dealing with, I will shoot you on site if I ever see you near our car lot again!" I rang him back and by the end of the phone call he was pleading "please don't, I'm really sorry!"..... I won't divulge what I said to the little nonce but lets just say he went from being Al Capone to Mr. Bean in a matter of minutes Oh well..... back to the drawing board.

You all little off topic on this thread! Lol. I love cares too...
Anyway, question about tube pin diagrams previously posted.
1) these pins are looking at the tube from bottom?
2) not sure on the "H" pins since there are two of them. does does h3 go to h4 and h6 to h5?
3) nothing goes to pin 9 on the tube saver?
Thks tim
