the input voltage is 15V-0-15V (30V centre tapped) courtesy of a very chunky offboard transformer

It is a pretty chunky power supply. There was some marking on it I thought low and I can't remember for the life of me what it was at the moment.

It is very dynamic in any case tbh.

I was basically emulating what another amp maker does - he matches the amp with the power supply so they sit alongside each other.

Because the T1 is so reasonably priced, I can actually see kids weaned on Itunes wanting more from their music. They are definitely looking for more because the sales of the Dre headphones go to show that some kids want quality and are willing to pay a premium price for quality. However, they also want to look good. Dre has done really well.The problem is, that many kids don't know what quality actually sounds like and need a little bit of education.

Ian I have just been catching up on this thread, you are right kids need educating - for example:

My daughter came home the other day and said she had just bought some new in ear headphones that sound brilliant, I asked her what make they were - she said oh some unknown brand. I said can I have a look at them. when I looked they were Sennheisers

I said if you look at my Headphones, the ones that you said sound crap compared to her Skullkandy headphones you will see they are Sennheisers
I think enough said

Brilliant review btw and a little hard not to be influenced by it, but when the amp arrives I will try to ignore everything that people have said about it and give an independent review of how I perceive the sound through my computer.

You are also right about a choice of colours - that white one looks sexy.

The way I take the audio from an Ipod is to go from the dock out on the Ipod to the line in on the amp.

It doesn't take digital direct from the Ipod, unless there's some kind of lead. If there is, it needs to be Dock plug to those square shped USB plugs, not the flat type.

It doubles as a DAC and as a straight amp as well.

The Ipods sound extremely good from it as well.

I have read the iPure i20 is a good way to get the digital out of an iPhone or iPod.

Getting digital output from an iPod through DIY will be nearly impossible. Apple have very strict control over the chips (or whatever it is) that decodes the digital signal from the iPod, and only certain companies are allowed to use them. All devices have to be made to Apple-approved standards.

Essentially, it's not happening.

My understanding is that DIY digital from an Ipod can't be done due to the ipod's control software and the need for the dock to 'talk' to it. One of the reasons the Wadia dock is so expensive is the money they have to pay Apple to make the digital out possible, though it is an oversized, somewhat disappointing, piece of kit in any event.

I've got a batch of these coming over soon guys so anybody who wants one let me know. I have yet to decide on the pricing. There will be 5 white units and 5 black. I will also be offering them with an extra valve / tube..... it will be a matched 6N23P-EB so you will be able to roll that in.

I reckon it will be in the region of £135 for the T1 with EH6922 and £155 for the T1 with EH6922 AND 6N23P-EB. Each unit will be fully tested before despatch.

These are well worth the price and don't forget, I will have to add import tax unless I get away with it!! Mike, have you gopt post on that 'cos it's a heavy thing to send with that power supply?

Go 6922 EB. It is worth the difference in sound. I really like this amp and have been demoing it this week. The standard tube is a little 'softer' in attack and the EB kicks a little more 'life' into its sound.

I am also very curious about the extra dymanics a Pinkie could offer. Being a tube amp, that power supply is so important.

Of course, you can always get yourself on the 'audition' list first, but after hearing it, I've already ordered one.

This is the thing Ian, the import duty.... I won't really know the exact price until they arrive. Shipping will, of course, be on top of those prices as the package is quite heavy.

The standard 6N11 variant is about £129 so I feel £135 is a good price for the 6922 version... in fact, it's an amazing prize when you consider what some manufacturers charge for JUST an amp

If interest is high enough I'll get more shipped over but let's see how the first ten pan out first of all, I'll get a feel for the customs duty, the time scale etc.

I feel very confident in the T1 AND Aune which is why I'm doing this.... £135 is a very small price to pay for such a versatile, competent DAC / amp and it's a great introduction into the world of headphone listening and even gives some very expensive amps a damned good run for their money.

A cheaper alternative to the Wadia for digital out of an iPxxxx would be the Cambridge Audio iD100 (approx. 180€):
