Thanks for all the hard work on this everyone! Hope I'm not too late to the party and there are a few extra boards that got ordered. If so, can you put me down for the following: 4 ea of LS GB 2 Kits GB 2 Sets of Boards Only I will need enough JLH's for all of the above (8, right?). Also, a few questions about cases. Does anyone have a source for the Hi-Fi2000 in the US? Would putting the Amp & Power circuits into a 4U or 5U work or should they be split up? If so, into what, 2 x 2U or 2 x 3U or 1 x 2U & 1 x 3U? If no luck with Hi-Fi2000 in US, would this work? I can order these before moving in a few weeks. Cheers, Ryan

Hi Ryan I am not sure if spares are available. You will need to wait for a reply from Will. However there is a possibility, although no promises, that a retired version's PCBs using separate Offset Correctors MAY become available a little later. New dual JLH PCBs may also become available locally. Personally, I think it is better to have 2 separate 2U rack cases with one housing the transformers and PSU PCBs. My 2U PSU rack case also houses another 2 30VA toroidal transformers to supply a Class A preamplifier. I do however use a single Harbuch dual secondary screened toroidal transformer, not 2 separate transformers. That may also need to change if I am to fully support this project in order to be right across any construction niggles. Regards Alex

Cheers, Ryan Hi Ryan, I'm afraid that there are no spare pcbs, but if you are happy to order them yourself, I can send the files needed for the amp and psu. It'll be more expensive than what we paid in the GB, but you'll at least have them. I have a few JLH's that I can pass on to you also, or there may be some in Australia that you could buy Send me a PM if you are interested.

Hi Guys,
Hope to have some time tomorrow to sort this parts GB, so posting here to prove that I'm still around and haven't sold your pcbs on eBay!
Also hope to get some emails returned as well!

Hi Will, Thanks for tonight's e-mail. You may recall that I haven't a clue what I'm doing on this GB so I'm relying on advice as to what I need. I start with zero stock of components so advice on what I need to poulate my boards would be greatly appreciated - sorry to trouble you - I just want to present my builder with a complete kit of parts and ask him to get on with it and send me his bill when it's all built and working . TIA, Dave.

Hi Will, I know you're a busy bee and appreciate the amount of effort you have put into making it relatively easy for us all building the AKSCMODS15WATT. As I'm not in the GB for anything other than two main circuit boards could you send them up at your convenience. Having already built one 15Watt (à la SandyK) with my own boards I felt I should give a little support to the GB and build my elder sons' SandyK system with the official boards. All other parts I have in stock having already built one which I'm using as I scribble this listening to a certain party's highly regarded (by those in the know) audio files. Alan

Hi Will How’s it going? It’s been a real slog my end but winter is coming so outside work stops soon. Still have 100 or so slabs to lay for the upcoming greenhouse to put together. I don’t much care for gardening but she backs my hobbies and now I’m backing hers. A fair swap? Well possibly. I’m still some way off of having time to warm the iron but I’m looking forward to some small projects that I’ve managed to grab on my late night surfing. Just boards and LS devices for me. Let me just say that I’m still enjoying the etched version of Alex’s wonderful Pre/Power. It still makes me feel lucky and you guys about to build will feel the same way I’m pretty sure on that. If not PM I and I’ll post you out some ear buds. Just kidding thanks Will Take care

Getting ready to accept Will and Jon's new main PCBs . The main features of Greg's new JLH PCB s are 1. additional screw terminals at both ends for added flexibility. There are 2 x +VE terminals for both input and Output. 2 x -VE terminals for both Input and Output. 4 x Earth/ 0 volts terminals for both Input and Output, which overcomes the need to try and fit 2 leads into the same terminal. 2. 2 Ounce copper tracks instead of the original 1 Ounce copper. 3. The soldering side is glossy black with gold pads. 4. It is possible to cut it down the centre into 2 separate halves if due care is taken. Advice will be posted in RG when they become available to overseas R.G. members from Jon Clancy. Jon will most likely include a small levy for a donation to charity. (T.B.A.) Alex P.S. Many thanks are due to R.G. member Greg Erskine for designing these new upgraded PCBs and having them manufactured. Attachments:

Excellent! The winter nights are drawing in, and it's getting colder. Clocks go back tonight. I think I need a bit of Class A heating around here!

Hi Will, kind regards to the post mistress the boards arrived today. I was telling my son today that they are here and look fantastic............... in fact I've told him they are too arty to stuff and I'll probably frame them to hang on the wall. ;D Seriously they are first class and with only the transistors to pop into my hand cut AKmodsSCHA/Pre boards, I'll be populating the glossy black mambos before this week ends. Of course building up the boards is just a small part of this build but with the garden and workshop shut down for winter there's plenty time for waggling the solder about up here in the den. Thanks Will, Regards, Alan

It'll be nice if you do get them built up, with some pictures if you can On the GB status, the lorry-load of caps was delivered today, so only the LS devices to go!

Hi Will, just ran through your BOM 15W. RS Components have the Terminal block at this part number 425-8720 price for 5 £0.128 It's the exact same as the Farnel their price for 5 is £0.22
1Watt 6R8 at part number 683-5556 this resistor is same physical size as .6w film.
Point about Farnell............require £20 min order for credit card payment.
I've been buying from RS and no minimum order or credit card value. I've 20 on order cost £2.56 plus VAT plus other items delivery Monday my total order value is £7.94 I had four in hand and they look good on your board. Pics coming soon. Alan

Hi Alan, Thanks for the heads-up on the terminals, it's appreciated The BOM is most definitely a guide, with examples of the right type of component that will fit, both in electrical value and physical fit. It's certainly not the only place to get them, or the cheapest. During the HA build, I think it was the prices of the 3296W trimpots that surprised me most, and they were found much cheaper on eBay. When people do find parts for more reasonable prices, like you have, posting them here will help loads. Really looking forward to seeing the pictures

Shipping delays from eBay suppliers are a P.I.T.A. for essential little items.

Hi Alex, RS and Farnell both deliver next day. Late afternoon order delivered midday next day doubt Jaycar could do better, I've gone as low as £4 odds with RS still delivered no delivery charge next day. Ebay okay for some things if your lucky. You can't beat the RS service. CPC a branch of Farnell sell some items at much lower prices than Farnell Element 14 but have a service charge of £5 + which makes small orders very expensive, that evens out quite quickly if you are buying a reasonable ammount Alan PS Did a search on Jaycar Au 2 Way 5.08mm Weidmuller PCB Mount Screw Terminal This is the terminal RS and Farnell are touting Jaycar want $1.20 and UK £0.41 didn't look to see if they deliver free................don't care, I'll stick with RS

Hi Alan It's not just cost, it's the ability to CHOOSE from different types by direct comparison and even select based on looks, as well as do a major part of your BOM in one go without needing a credit card. You guys haven't experienced good supermarket style shopping for electronics components. Alex
