As always I am on an everlasting hunt for bang for the buck and I stumpled upon these some months ago www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Takstar-Monitor-hi-fi-headphone-HI-2050-HI2050-/140529482165?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20b835b9b5and thought why not.. So I orderer a set thinking that if the were bad the pads looked like being worth the money. I have been using them for some weeks now and can honestly say that I am blown away by these phones, they are awesome.. I was expecting a phone sounding a bit like Beyer Dynamic DT880 as they look like them, if you take a short look at them on closer inspection they have oval cups, the cable is drawn differently and there is a small difference in the headband also.. I love the DT880 and have been an owner of them for 6 years and I still love them, the Takstars sound quite different, they do have a flatter bas and are not lifted as much in the higher notes and the soundstage is also different, it sounds more 3D and is smaller.. These are not the cans for basheads, the bass is good but not dominating, they offer a very "clear" and natural sound and are IMO suitable for all kinds of music, well can not say if they are good for Jazz or deathmetal, but most rock and pop sounds good on them.. The signature is a bit like a very well driven AKG701 but with a bit of added bass. But they do not need an expensive amp to do so.. To my ears they are way better than the Superlux681, I compare a bit with the luxes as they are in a lot of members arsenal.. The comfort is great, they come with an extension cord and a 3,5->6,4 adapter, the box is a bit cheap, but I do not care about those things anyway.. I find myself using them more and more pushing away the DT880, HD681, DX1000 and a lot of other phones in my possesion, if it is the typical new toy syndrome is hard to tell, but I feel that these will be used regulary for a long time, they do not deliver the SQ of the DT880 or DX1000 but not many phones do that and at a price of 40$ dullars they should not, but they are very close and it is nice to have different soundsignatures at hand. these are a bargain..and I can recommend them without hesitation..

Claus, Do you mean better than the stock 681 or better than the modded 681, Jeff Better than both, but with a completely different signature.. And much more comfortable, I guess that a pair of othe pads could boost the bass quite a bit, I will try and make some eksperiments..

Do you already know which pads from other manufacturers could work? I guess that Beyer pads will not fit since the earcups are oval and not round.
I wonder which manufacturer makes the Takstar 'phones. I wouln'd be surprised if another Chinese manufacturer is the origin.

I have some from Philips that fots, also the pads from my Fisher Fa 003 fit, normally it does not matter if the pads are round or oval, they fit regardless of the form.. I got a whole cardbox filled with all kinds of pads, so something will always fit The manufactor is called Takstar and seem to be a big company.

Mmmm, look good!
I'm fending off buying the much-recommended (here at RG) DT-990s, because I'm really looking for some closed-back alternatives to my HD25s (which I can't wear for long). I suppose these Takstars might put off the inevitable for a few months...

I suppose these Takstars might put off the inevitable for a few months... I do not like the DT990 one bit They are bloated in the bass and have screaming highs, My opinion of course.. Takstar also makes some closed models, if you want I can find some links, but search aliexpress or ebay, they should be there..

Found a picture and English text here. I prefer the velour look of the pads on the others, the ones on these look a bit Superluxy!

The text says it is softskin, whatever that is, probably what we call pleather, I do not think it is vinyl like in the Superluxes. I have been on the homepage some time ago and they have a lot of different phones, some of them could easily be well worth the money, judgeing from how well the 2050 performs..

" Vig bag mig Satan" (if Goggle Translate is to be trusted!). I am know by many names ;D ;D ;D It would be more like "vig bort fra mig Satan" danish is a little strange to learn, the translaterprogrammes have some difficulties in getting the right terms, but it is easy to understand for danes, as most of us also speak other "normal" languages.. It is best when using english, if i translate a polish site to danish it goes haywire, so when I use the translators I always translate into english, as it seems to be the best developed..

And in any case I made a mistake in my original English quote, it should have been "Get thee behind me, Satan." (And in case there are any non-UK readers who are not familiar with the word "thee", it is a now-defunct term for "you".)

Well to be honest we do not have a saying that says just that, if we use the danish therm "bag" meaning behind, it would be a wish for support from satan.. or "back me up satan" and I am not sure that, that was the intended term.. If direct translated we would use the word meaning away "væk".. This is turning slowly but surely into a language lesson lol

Funny "review" I have not tried it direct from a portable player other than my studio and the Studio is a very good player with a good amp inside..
I agree with the part about the revealing thing, it feels to me like they put out what you put in, no more no less.. So if fed crappy MP3 files with a mediocore player the results will be bad..
She is not a forgiving phone and I think the reviewer is spot on with his thoughts about "real" audiophiles wont buy a 50 $ phone, which is a shame, because sometime spending 50$ can give you a very good headphone, people tend to judge soundquality from the price and some has the idea that cheap stff is bad stuff.. That asumption is wrong in this case, very wrong indeed.

a) (On-topic) These phones are looking more and more tempting!
b) (Off-topic) The phrase I've been quoting is from the Bible, and refers (if I remember from my school days correctly) to when Jesus was in the wilderness and was being tempted by the devil to have a pint of Carlsberg Export, or similar. Hence, "get thee behind me, Satan", means "go away, do not tempt me," or some such...

Funnily enough, I was just looking at the listing again: it's even gone down a few pennies as the exchange rate fluctuates, now about £34, the price of a cheap meal for two...

Darn 34 pounds is like $60 USD! Here a cheap meal for me is like $20 USD for lunch or $35 USD for dinner. No liquor but a good meal for two.
