I can't get the >>| or |<< keys on the remote (marked G and E in the Mini APE Manual picture) to do anything at all.
The > and < keys (I and D in the manual) skip to the next or previous track whilst I'm playing an album.

G and E are for when you are using a long wav file and you have a CUE file which has the markers for a long wav so that you can jump to different sections of a wav file.
If you rip an image of a CD into wav, it is a very long file. So EAC makes a CUE file which is a list of all of the tracks. Buttons G and E will use the CUE file to skip to the next track, although it is the same huge WAV file.
That's why I'm ripping images - you can skip tracks using the CUE file and those buttons on the remote.
On a normal CD player, those symbols would be the 'next track' button. On the mini Ape, it is the next track of a CUE file, or else you use the other symbol to skip to the next track.
I hope that makes sense!!!
Ian

OK because I do not have any "cue" files it only play one song at the time and then stop, so I just rip an image instead of only the songs.. and load the cue file to the card.. Can I make a cue file ?? or do I need to start ripping allover once again again again again But it sounds amazing I have not tried to put the NFB11 between it and the V8 but will try that and see if it the DAC or the transport that makes the difference... the Dynamics are amazing..

Hey I can skip to the next song..
Thanks a lot..
Now I just need a sdcard pr artist, that would be something.
Could one take selected files and make a "claus-dk's hit for kids" cue file ??

Phil Yes it does. However Claus didn't want to have to drag out all of his CDs again. Alex Sorry - I thought he meant re-rip the whole CD... not take 5 seconds to just produce a CUE. AFAIK Claus, there's no way to retroactively produce a CUE (of a complete image of a CD) without the actual CD.

Phil There may be freeware programs that can also do this from a list of music files. Don't know what this means for playback though, as intended for making new CD images. Alex Attachments:

My remote seems to behave differently. www.impulsion.plus.com/photos/Aune Mini APE Remote.jpg[/img] Last night I re-ripped the troublesome Goldberg Variations into two single FLACs + Cues (it's a 2 CD album) and sure enough, the problem of the tracks finishing early (because they are smaller than 8MB?) disappeared. I found that keys D & I skipped to the previous or next track in the Cue file, and that keys E & G skipped to the next Cue file, in this case, the other ripped FLAC file (i.e., what had been CD1 and CD2). The manual does refer to this function, but it was quite by chance that I discovered keys E & G did this, because the particular album I'd ripped happened to be 2 CDs (which were in 2 separate folders within the same folder). I wonder if the update/reset file has changed the function of the remote keys, as your post above suggests that your E & G keys are doing what my D & I keys are doing.

Claus Occasionally I've found that the Cue file relevant to a number of separate track files has been incorrect and that the APE can't read from it, so pressing Play does nothing (it searches for a meaningful Cue file then defaults back to the album folder). What I do in this case as a work-around is to press OK, which opens the folder, then pressing OK or Play starts the first track and the APE will then go on to play the next track in the folder, and so on. In other words, you don't need to have a Cue file in the album folder, just start the first track and off it goes...

Alex Alex - anything that mentions bin/cue... will indeed produce both a bin and a cue. The bin is one big file that stores the data, and the cue is just two lines pointing to the bin, i.e. not what we're after. Edit: Foobar2k will do it - just download the foo_cuesheet_creator plugin. Guide is here: www.fanhow.com/knowhow:Make_cue_files_in_Foobar2000_30125549The guide assumes you're using ape files. If you're just using wavs, you can skip step 3. The only caveat being that using this method won't detect any gaps - will just play the files sequentially. So depending on how you've ripped them.... probably a moot point.

Well I have decided to re rip allover again, with EAC on extreme, in wav and direct to the SDcard, from an extrenal Drive dampend with some heavy stuff on top... Just for the fun of it and see if I can make it sound even better.. Thanks anyway Is it just me or is this not a little Ape but a little gem ?? I will miss my "random all over the libary" function, but I gain so much in sound... Phil Yes it does. However Claus didn't want to have to drag out all of his CDs again. Jesus..... "stuff" is starting to pile up on my desktop I am now running the Mini APE into a Cambridge Audio DacMagic (both powered by Pinkies) and then through an Analogue King valve buffer into NAD C315BEE amp..... sounds lovely, very fluid and natural I love the DacMagic with it's two inputs and two outputs.... on input one I have the ASUS Xonar DX (optical out) into DacMagic, then DacMagic into Analogue King and then to NAD amp.... Very easy to switch between Mini APE as source / Computer as source (press a button on the DacMagic) and it's great sitting at the computer listening to high quality sound through loudspeakers (nearfield).... very addictive type of sound with superb imaging..... I'm going to fit a couple of headphone amps tomorrow and do some critical listening through 'phones. Have been quite busy lately restoring a couple of nice Hacker radios. Miguel has kindly sent me the Musical Paradise class D amp (MP-302) so I'll have a good listen to that and maybe an X-CAN V2 or something. I'm running out of sockets on the RH side of my desk so have fitted one of those handy "T-Sockets" that converts one socket into five (a very good device complete with anti surge)..... I'm going to plumb in some mains sockets on the LH side of the desk and will use that side for a load of headphone amps / PSU's.... The "computer as source" thang is starting to take shape

The plug from my little pinkie (V2) fits in the APE, can i use that ?? The Mini APE has a 2.1mm DC socket (centre pin positive) and the plug you will need is a 2.1mm DC barrel type. Yes, the plug from the Pinkie (V2) will fit but I think you should pull out the stops and buy a NEW plug..... they are only 20 pence each so no reason to poach a plug from something else The Pinkie (for V2) is AC so make sure it's only the "plug" that you plug in.... you will need a "DC" supply for the Mini APE.... if you are making your own then tweak the no load DC voltage to 13.1V.... this will drop to 12V under load. I wish you were next door Claus as I could literally "throw" a 2.1mm DC plug over the fence to you..... Denmark is a bit out of my throwing capability but if you would like me to post you a suitable plug then I shall Mike. 2.1 mm DC (standard) plug here: www.rapidonline.com/Cables-Connectors/Connectors-Mains-Power/DC-Power-Connectors/DC-Power-plugs/180705OR, if you have more money than sense, you could buy one of these: www.rapidonline.com/Cables-Connectors/Connectors-Mains-Power/DC-Power-Connectors/DC-Power-plugs-Switchcraft/63533

I have been away for a few days and just tried to turn on my Mini APE, and had the same problem as before: it gets as far as the initial copyright screen, then doesn't get any further.
I have had to update yet again using the file Candy sent me a few weeks back. It's very annoying that just about every week I have to use the same process, firing up my PC, running the update program, etc., just to get my Mini APE working.
Candy tells me there is a new software update on the way: I hope this will get my APE working properly, without my having to go through the hassle of returning it to China! (I hope, too, that the problem of cutting off the end of tracks less than 8MB in size is resolved.)

Johnny, I told you to send it back when you first got it..... nobody else is experiencing these problems so I doubt a "software update" will do much.... you have clearly got a Mini APE that has a problem. No point coming on here every week and repeating yourself when all you have to do is return it to the manufacturer under warranty. China is not on Mars, it is a plane ride away.... Royal Mail will have your APE in mainland China within a week (Airmail / International Signed For) and it will cost you about a tenner to send it back. THAT is the solution and THAT is the ONLY solution.... weekly reports on it not working correctly are not going to resolve the problem so get your "ass" to the post office, pronto, with it. Mike.

The mini APE walks all over the squesebox, it is so much better that it is like comparing a Wartburg and a Merc.
I am going to do some testing of the two head to head as transports and it looks like there is a difference, in what is used for picking up 1 and 0 and sending them along..
For Ease of use the box is better, but lets be honest the APE really sucks in that department, so not much of a contest there..
