The mini APE walks all over the squesebox, it is so much better that it is like comparing a Wartburg and a Merc. I am going to do some testing of the two head to head as transports and it looks like there is a difference, in what is used for picking up 1 and 0 and sending them along.. For Ease of use the box is better, but lets be honest the APE really sucks in that department, so not much of a contest there.. Shit man..... a "lawnmower" would be more use than a Wartberg

In my youth I visited eastBerlin a couple of times and everybody drove "Trabis", at the parking lots it was Trabis trabis and trabis, the rich people had a Wartburg So not many of those were around..

I have been away for a few days and just tried to turn on my Mini APE, and had the same problem as before: it gets as far as the initial copyright screen, then doesn't get any further. I have had to update yet again using the file Candy sent me a few weeks back. It's very annoying that just about every week I have to use the same process, firing up my PC, running the update program, etc., just to get my Mini APE working. Candy tells me there is a new software update on the way: I hope this will get my APE working properly, without my having to go through the hassle of returning it to China! (I hope, too, that the problem of cutting off the end of tracks less than 8MB in size is resolved.) Johnny, I told you to send it back when you first got it..... nobody else is experiencing these problems so I doubt a "software update" will do much.... you have clearly got a Mini APE that has a problem. No point coming on here every week and repeating yourself when all you have to do is return it to the manufacturer under warranty. China is not on Mars, it is a plane ride away.... Royal Mail will have your APE in mainland China within a week (Airmail / International Signed For) and it will cost you about a tenner to send it back. THAT is the solution and THAT is the ONLY solution.... weekly reports on it not working correctly are not going to resolve the problem so get your "ass" to the post office, pronto, with it. Mike. Mike I'd love to know where you get your quote for shipping to China: the cheapest price I can find is £19.48, but that only covers tracking in the UK. To get full tracking to China is £56.90 (and I have returned items to China before, and they never got there, so I'm more than a bit wary of this option).

Hi John,
If I had read this last year, I wouldn't have sent my old Solo Amp to China. That's a bit worrying.
What surprised me was how quickly the guy there got it!!
If it's not working though, I think I'd take a chance and send it back. The insurance thing can depend on what you state the value as. You could take a small chance and announce it it be worth slightly less and the cost won't rise too much if you're close to the point where it goes up. (?)
It's not too heavy. The worst thing I have had to post was the Panda up to Scotland. The weight was a problem and that added to the cost along with the value of the amp itself.
I'm not certain where the insurance bands change, but perhaps someone knows and it may be cheaper to announce as a value slightly under in order to get the postage down.
I wouldn't keep a faulty unit because you just won't use it. Funny that it's doing such odd things as well!!

I've just received the latest software update from Candy, and ran it. I'll check it out over the next few days and see if the problems have been resolved.
Ian
You're quite right, I can save a few pounds on shipping it back by lowering the insured value (but I'm still hoping I won't have to do that!).

OK.... there is no need to send the power supply back with the APE so that cuts down on the weight. It will not be 1 kilo in weight..... a 1 kilo package will be about £11 by airmail...... I reckon the APE will weigh about 600 grams so it should be about £8 sent by airmail / small packet. Use international signed for (£4.95) that will require a signature at Candy's end so total should be about £13. That insures you for £46...... you can get the package insured for £250 for an extra £1.50 I use international signed for / small packet all the time and have NEVER (touchwood) had a package go missing..... you are looking at £15 MAX to ship it back to China with £250 compensation. Keep the packaging "basic" (ie: don't stuff the APE in a wooden crate stuffed with old socks).... keep it as light as possible. OK..... off you go to the post office

Actually John, they are a really helpful company as they showed when mine went awl due to my own mistake - I put the wrong post code because I'd just moved!!! (How stupid was that eh?)
Candy was really good about it and I had assumed it was my loss through my own stupidity. In fact, I found it in the end but I wasn't going to be dumped with my problem by DIY Audio.
They're a caring firm and I'd always go back. I'd send it back personally; even if it cost £20.

Sounds like things are getting sorted out on it now!! Good news if they're starting to find a way to stop the cutting of small files and even nicer if the click goes.
Hopefully, yours will settle down now John,
I wonder whether an update will appear on their site? That would seem the obvious place for it. Probably take some time to download though.

How does one obtain the upgraded firmware ?? I whole-heartedly recommend this latest update, but, having just tied up my PC for about 20 minutes while I sent a copy to Claus (!), Thank you very much for the time and effort.. It only took me seconds to download it...

For some reason I've never quite understood, uploading takes a great deal longer than downloading (that said, I rarely send up anything quite as big as this update RAR!).

^ Most service providers restrict the uploads to 1/10th or 1/15th the download speeds.

Hi Folks, after a week or so of being switched off my Mini APE had a brain fart when I switched it on this evening and it's now stuck on the copyright page. I've switched it off and on again a few times but still it is stuck on the copyright page. Could someone send me the reset file that seems to be doing the rounds? Thanks in advance.

Patience is a virtue. Extracted the APE files to a folder on my desktop. Turned the APE on and pressed the right button, screen went blank as advertised. I used a standard USB A to B cable and connected my PC to the APE (rear connector). Windows reported it could not find the device drivers. Repeated the above and it seems the PC now doesn't even recognise there is a USB device connected. Any thoughts from the collective? I'm off to work now to stew over my impatience.

I got the same problem, no driver for the USB, it does not help pointing windows to the ape folder, I did try lots og times but to no avail, then I tried searching the web for the driver for the USBdevice no luck there either.. I have tried it on both my windows PCs vista and windows7, both 64bit.. It just does not work..

I've run this update two or three times. The first time you connect up the Mini APE to your PC (in my case running Vista 32) it says there's no driver, and you can either search or browse. I drilled down to the folder where I had previously unpacked the RAR update file, and there was the driver.
One of the (many) problems with Windows is that it 'remembers' where the driver was, and if you told it to search the web, it'll keep doing that. You have to get it back to the point where you can tell where to look (i.e., the folder with unpacked RAR).
