I feel sorry for the people who actually buy into this crap! These guys selling those fuses must be laughing their heads off!!! OK..... a "gold plated" fuse..... shove it into your fuseholder and marvel at the improved sound quality...... hold on a minute, the fuseholder is tin plated.... whoops, what do I do now?

'Resonance control' sounds really useful to me.
Stick it where the sun don't shine and maybe it improves the pitch a little, so if you fit a higher value, you may be able to reach notes that you never reached before. At least with gold tips there's be no green marks left behind.
I wonder if there's a value that can supply sub-woofer pitches?
I quite like that idea. ;D
I really like the look of the new enclosure. I had a chat with myself last night and wondered about a black faceplate but then I thought about silver scratches coming through.
It just looks really professional imo and perhaps tougher than the other version?
Having 4 amps, getting these beauties is going to be costly. Especially with the weight and postage. Judging by what Miguel was saying though, the Mk 2 has sonic benefits so a Mk 2 in a metal box is very attractive.

Ian, I have taken a few snapshots of the "raw" aluminium enclosure and have also spray painted the front panel and top panel black..... I'll upload pics later on when the paint has dried (it's in the oven right now).... obviously the finished article will look a lot better but this will give you an idea how a black panel would look.

I'm not bothering posting too much regarding thoughts on those fuses apart from I presume they still use internal fuse wire which blows at a proper given rating (couldn't be arsed reading all the blurb on them) Anyway enough of those fuses, I'm more interested in seeing some pics of Mikes cases, bring on the pron

Mike,
Is the transformer a better quality one? I know that you 'resin'ed' the windings on the old one to reduce hum and imo it really worked.
The pinkies are really exceptionally quiet in operation. That's something I really appreciated and wondered why you changed to a different one.

Ian Hi Ian, The SE transformer is a toroidal which is made in England, it's totally silent (mechanically) and doesn't require the varnish bath It is also more efficient, runs cool, has very low levels of noise-inducing stray magnetic fields, has low leakage inductance, tighter regulation etc. It is quite simply a superior transformer which is why I am using it in the SE

Mike If the front panel didn't have provision for a switch or printing , perhaps it could be a nice little selling item in it's own right ? Alex

Mike If the front panel didn't have provision for a switch or printing , perhaps it could be a nice little selling item in it's own right ? Alex You can buy them in a stock size www.panel-print.com/uniobox/ (it's the uniobox2) for quite a reasonable price but as soon as you go custom size, panel printing, black anodised and punching the price goes through the roof... almost treble PLUS VAT in this instance All made in the UK by Lincoln Binns www.lincolnbinns.com/ Prototyping: www.lincolnbinns.com/prototyping.htm

Looking good, Mike. I know it's not how the final product will look, but I prefer the black front/lid over the raw ali look. From the mock-up, and seeing the real thing, the black body/rear and natural anodised front should look superb. On the label, blame Irn-Bru, but when I see the words "Made in Scotland", the Scottish voice I read it in carries on with "from Girders"

I miss the part of the label that says it's aged 12 years in an oak barrel :-)

Great stuff! I personally wouldn't go with a thicker front panel, I think the supplied one goes with that syle of case better, thicker panels look better with wider cases, just imo .

I think the "incongruous" black switch definately looks better on the black backround. However, I still don't like the switch slap-bang in the middle like Ronald McDonald's nose.

Easy to find in a dark room, different from the usual pinhole blue LED on a lump of aluminium and a lot of people like Ronald's nose

Just shows you how we all differ. I actually like the silver front with the black body since it matches the X-Cans, although I can understand people like a fully blacked up box as well. You can't win Mike!! How about a pink pig on the front panel!! Isn't it funny how we all worry about the colour/look of the box rather than the guts!!

Not all of us Ian,
Quiet frankly i can see nothing wrong with the existing SE model in the light plastic housing, looks is the bottom of the list in the case of a PSU for me, as they sit out of sight, under my worktop where they cant be seen, performance is the selling point for me, at as lower cost as possible, especially as i have a couple already, and know that they produce a PS which is second to none.

That's normally where power supplies end up Mick! This new one sounds good with a better toroidal winding and cooler operation.
It's funny how attached I got to my Little Pinkies with the X-Cans. I suppose the switch is an attractive option but with these kinds of amps, the power supply quality is very important and as you say, as long as it does the job well, that's the main thing.

I didn't know you were a Yakuza. What? A Japanese crime gang member? Do they like Little Pinkies too?

It's a little like preaching to those who've already bought one, but for me a very satisfying part of the little pinkie is that 'thup' of turning it on or off and seeing the light to confirm.
I think you're on the right path with painting half of it differently to MF as 1, seems to go with it and 2, outdoes their PSU after listening.
If anything I'd say resist the temptation to call it special with special writing. Just keeping it plain as in your last pics is on the money.

I am sorry but this is just an absolute RIP OFF £30 for a FUSE?!!! " HiFi Tuning Audiophile Fuses are made from ceramic bodies which are tuned for resonance control" Tuned for resonance control? what a crock of shite! OMG, we can do much worse than that; £64.95 fuse madness hereI particularly enjoyed; PS & BOT I still think your original render is the best, with or without lettering, understated class for those who wish to display it. Re Fuse Madness
It would be an interesting exercise to thoroughly clean the mating surface of the socket with Isopropyl alcohol or some similar product, then fit a fuse with similarly cleaned end caps, where the internal fuse wire has been replaced by heavy gauge tin or silver plated copper wire which has been soldered in. I would expect any observable differences in sound between fuses to be accounted for by the actual ohmic resistance of the fuse and holder contacts combined. SandyK
