I have decided to make my Special Edition Little Pinkie even more special and am proposing an all aluminium enclosure... these are the plans so far: Comments appreciated. Mike.

Very nice, would you offer it at a higher price in addition to a plastic cased version or instead of?

Very nice, would you offer it at a higher price in addition to a plastic cased version or instead of? The ABS version will remain as it's a good, solid enclosure but only in the "standard" edition Pinkie.... the "Special Edition" Pinkie will only be available in the aluminium enclosure and will fetch a premium price due to the materials used. The "standard" Pinkie will lose the existing transformer which will be replaced with a high quality (English made) toroidal type. So, basically, the standard edition will be in the existing ABS enclosure but will benefit from the addition of a toroidal transformer. The Special Edition Pinkie will be a no compromise "full out" design utilising custom made alu enclosure, Rhodium plated IEC socket, higher VA toroidal transformer etc. I have had many enquiries for Pinkies in aluminium enclosures so here it is..... It will measure W90 x L160 x H82 and will match beautifully with the X-Series of amps / components. The enclosures are VERY expensive (again, Made In England) so will add a bit to the cost, more on this nearer the time.

A really good point for the proposed enclosure is its close visual match to the V3s onwards. is it possible to source a cylindrical enclosure similar to the V1 & 2, just to be reeeeeally special, visually.

Personally, I don't like the power switch. IMO it shouldn't be a plastic rocker type. If you would have a (3mm) power led in a seperate hole, you could have the option of choise of color.
You could also consider 10mm front and black anodised options.
Cheers, Marc

I quite like the rocker switch on my Little Pinkie. It makes it very clear that it's turned on or off, but it's also a very good quality switch imo. However, I do like the added robustness of this unit. Presumably, it's just as quiet as the originals? Mine is amazingly quiet but I must admit, they look good in the new enclosure. A definite touch of class has been added. Get the test units out Mike, I'm sure they need checking. I need so many of them with all the amps I have scattered, all with different sockets. V8 is different to V2 is different to V-Can and they all work so well with a Little Pinkie on them. It doesn't look good seeing the ghost of my place (me) wandering about at night in his dressing gown, bearing a Little Pinkie to the other end of the house for the other amp!! Guess I'll have to make a choice and bite the bit!!!

Very smart indeed! The thing I like about the style is that it looks like it would go with anything Nice choice of screws too

Hehe..... I knew the "switch" would be up for criticism, it just had to be as I have bought 300 blue ones, 200 red ones, 100 green ones and 100 amber ones The switch is not written in stone but when there wasn't a switch most people asked for a switch.... in fact, one of the comments I always get is "I love the switch, it's great to be able to turn it off easily". Thing is, I will be buying a large quantity of the enclosures so I want to get it right from the off.... the "guts" are perfect but the cosmetics are something that are important to people. Thank you Leo, I also think that the style will go with almost anything.... first and foremost designed to sit alongside X-ponents but, yes, should fit in well with most equipment. Gommer.... 10mm would be great but not really practical as it would be too thick for the switch, the IEC socket, the fuseholder and the cable strain relief... it would also be a crazy price... these custom made enclosures are already almost £40 each (inc VAT), I have to keep the price "real". Mike.

That looks very much the part, Mike, very nice. The switch is nicely proportioned and suits the style of the case, which does look luxurious.
Will the production versions have a gloss finish on the main body? I think that'd look pretty good.

I wouldn't worry too much about the switch Mike. It's seems i'm the only one here with a different taste.

It should be pretty much the same... the guys that are designing it used a graphics program to give me an idea.... I will be receiving a sample next week

I didn't look close, but i thought it was a foto of a prototype. Damn these renders look realistic these days.

I personally like those switches and think it goes well with the style of the case and print, front panel would look a little bare without it. Fingers crossed the sample looks as good as that rendered pic

Wow, I thought was a pic of a prototype too. I like that it matches with the XCan.

Hi Mike, Very nice! But I think the face plate should be thicker to match the X series thicker faceplate. Also, the IEC should be OCC copper and the fuse one of those Hifi fuse (Gold or Silver) as options. Yup, mass customisation. This is after all a Special Edition, right? Also, the back plate should be black as well in line with the X series. The brush Al faceplate togather with the spray painted black body matches the X series very well. Good luck in your new venture ........

I think I'm with gommer on the switch, it does dominate the front a little and perhaps an oval switch on a square faceplate is a little incongruous. I realise you've now got hundreds of the things, but would it be possible to substitute it for something a bit more discrete?
However, I think that having a switch is a nice feature, I don't like equipment that I can't turn off or have to go fishing about on the back panel for the switch.

I've been thinking about the switch and looking at the switch and honestly think it "makes" the front panel... if there was no switch and just a blue LED it would look too spartan IMO... These switches look very nice in reality and they give off a nice subtle glow in the dark.... a choice of colour is also availabe (red, blue, amber, green) so the "switch" will be able to fit in well with most types of partnering equipment.
I won't know what it all looks like in reality until I build the prototype, I'll have a better idea then.

I really like the rocker switch. I can't see any problem with it at all personally.

Mike. I LOVE that Switch on my Little Pinkie SE. It's perfect for the job and, yes, the LED glows nicely in the dark. The design and the function required each other. A design which has a flawed function is no good design. In doubt, I'd go more for good function than design (I like the rocker type switch though). BTW: I was already thinking about ordering a Little Pinkie for my Neco Mosfet's, but I'm still not sure what I really want (that's why I didn't tell you about it before). But perhaps this one could be another pre-release Pinkie? I'll PM you soon. A thick aluminum front plate (like the X-series) maybe would be nice to look at, but there's another point against that: Aluminum cases like those of the X-series have some weight. Perhaps too much weight for cheap postage? I don't know, but it would add to the total weight for sure. Overall, I think the design of the new Little Pinkie SE matches the design of the X-series very well.
