So far w/ the Sylvania valves and the 2107 op-amps I prefer the V2. However I have a set of Russian valves and a few op-amps to roll courtesy of Mike. Have not been able to devote as much time to the V1 due to too many toys.
Recently I have received:
1. HLLY SMK-III Digital Audio Decoder 2. HLLY AMK-II Pre Amp 3. iBasso Toucan (balanced portable amp) 4. iBasso Boomslan (balanced portable dac) 5. Westone 2 IEM 6. Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10 7. Audio Technica ATH-ESW9 8. Bunch of new CD's 9. Books to read 10. ETC ...

Did you try the russians Mrarroyo?
DANG! I was bidding for a X-CANS today and I got the information that I was not allowed to bid since I lived in Norway. Annoying. I dont see that many of them.
I got the V2 with the Mike PSU. Does anybody know if its OK to install the 6n1p tubes?? Or will it melt the whole V2? Think it would be interesting to try them...

Yes... I am tired of this too now :-|
These years starting with the V3 has been very painful. haha. I think the problem started with the AKG K 701. If I had started with the Senn HD 600 everything would be so much easier as those phones really does mask som shortcomings of different sources and amp. The AKG does not, and they are difficult to drive.
and it seems, no tube does everything really good. Like, everyone has a quite nice midrange, but either they have bass and no treble(russian) or they have treble(tesla) and no bass. The Jan Philips is actually very balanced in that regard, but they have a lack of details.
I just want this perfect experience, but does not seem possible. So a Panda has to be the compromise then. A good SS. For the AKGs I mean. The X-cans with the Senns are quite nice, though not very spacious sounding. Senns with Russians are just way to bassy and dark combination.
I think I might skip the 6N1P (I orderd another set of JANS btw), since I read they get really warm. The Siemens(tesla) are nice that way, almost no heat at all.
One I never tried though, which people say they like in X-CANS is the Electro Harmonix GOLD. But it will probably come with a serious compromise on its own. hehehe

I wonder what the f**k is wrong with hifi producers. Why use the expensive 6922 tube? Why not use some other type. The 6922 wasnt even made for TV/audio as far as I know.

thought i would re-open this old thread. just doing some AB testing on my V1 & V2, i am really struggling to choose between them. both are running out of my x10-d, using "line out" from one amp to feed the other. i assume this does not potentially degrade the input to both amps? may have to choose one to sell, as running out of desk space.

Simon..... I'd keep that V1, I'd forgotten which one you had It may be easier for you to make your mind up when the postman arrives on Thursday The V1 you have is a keeper though When I die that will be worth 75 pence Mike.
