It's getting them in the house that's the gamble: once they're in my office, I'm home and dry, as I've discovered over the years that the Stasi can't really distinguish one set of headphones from another, so HD565s become HD600s, no sweat, and Stax SR-202s mysteriously change colour from black to green to brown without comment.
But those tense days, when yet another parcel is due, and will I be able to get to Tim the postie before she does (without seeming to rush in the process, which only brings on the full third degree)... ?
...and the "I've just bought them to re-sell them at a profit because they were a ridiculously cheap price on eBay" line is wearing a bit thin these days!

One ploy that used to work for me (before I retired) was to get them delivered to your work place, providing you can get the storekeeper 'on side'. ;D

Hi guys
Indeed/Bravo seem to be nice amps. Are they comparable with X-Can V3 in SQ?
Cheers Sz

The IRF510's are in and initial impressions are more midrange detail, "slightly" lighter bass and more appears to be going on in the sound.... I will leave it to cook overnight and see how it sounds tomorrow.

The IRF510 DEFINITELY bring more sparkle and energy to the mids / highs, no doubt at all about that, a totally different sound from the stock transistors. I'm not sure if I "prefer" it yet and will have to do a few back to back comparisons with the Indeed, which still has the IRF630 onboard. One thing is for certain, if you love midrange detail then the IRF510 are a must.... the sound is a lot more revealing / energetic with them on board.... if you prefer a warmer type sound then stick with the IRF630. This is actually quite a MAJOR "difference" in tweak terms and very easy to explain what effects each transistor has on the SQ. The IRF630 gives a "warm" euphonic (easy listen) type of presentation whereas the the IRF510 gives a sparkly, vibrant, energetic detailed kind of listen. Both have a place, it all depends what you prefer. I like both so will probably end up with IRF510 in one and IRF630 in the other..... 510 for "critical listening", 630 for "casual listening" Totally off topic but an interesting read re: heatsinks: ludens.cl/Electron/Thermal.html

Very interesting, think i will make some Bronze heatsinks (%90 Copper+tin+Ali) to mate with the original Ali ones on the Bravo, the extra weight would also help to stop it moving around, along with some nice Brass, or s/steel feet, which would add a little more weight.

Dumb question, but everyone here seems friendly to the newbies....
I received my Bravo amp today and when I plug in my headphones, I only get sound from the left channel. I checked the RCA connections and all were fine, but then I noticed if I plug my headphones in about 2/3 of the way I get sound in both channels - though somewhat "off" sounding (that's the best way I can describe it - maybe "shallow"?)
When I push them in the whole way, the right channel cuts in and the "full" volume kicks in in the left.
I know little about this technology, but I've noticed there are three metal prongs that lift up when I plug in the headphones - when the headphone jack is in partially all three lift up - but when I push it all the way in the deepest one drops. I would think this means something, but I don't know what.
Any ideas?

It could be a simple thing to fix, but if you can't, they may not be too happy to see that you have had a play around. SandyK P.S. Did you swap your L and R input leads around to make sure that the input was O.K.

Hey SandyK - Yep - I did all the various swapping and tried a mini to mini, the right channel is definitely the problem no matter what. Actually - I just disconnected the right channel altogether to see if the sound how the sound changes between half/full way in - and even with only the left RCA plug in, when I pull the cord part way out I get audio in both ears. man227 Perhaps at that price point, adjusting each amplifier individually, is not an option. There also seem to be a fair percentage of faulty units recently, so QC may be lacking. SandyK

now when you talk of this "fair percentage of faulty units recently" are you referring to Indeed or Bravo? Let's not lose sight of the fact that, though these amps look alike, they are not made by the same people.
Maybe we need keep a running tally of which amp people have had issue with. I could be wrong here but from what I recall reading not one Indeed has had issues , they seem to have all been Bravo. again this the memory of few remaining braincells lol
somewhere back in this thread I suggested there be two threads for the two amps. and THIS is exactly the reason why I suggested it. All someone who reads this thread via google search or some such is going to think they are the same and without reading every post in this thread the passer by is not going to know this or that amp has a problem but assume the both do.
If anyone of sharper mind can take a count on which product different members have had issues with, that would be helpful to many.
the only other thing at this point I'd like to add is so far so good with my Indeed w/ 6922. instrument separation is quite good, and in my laymen way, everything has its place and seems represented is a natural sounding way to my ears. Having had played drums for years, I KNOW exactly what they and cymbals sound like and I'm amazed by this ability of the Indeed to capture the sizzle of a "sizzler" cymbal, the sound the tip of a drum stick actually makes, and the speed of its presentation . Say that 10 times fast lol , and yet with this clarity not fatiguing in the least for me.
Most happy so far. dare I use the L word so soon? eFFn A, I LOVE IT !

Quite a lot of the Indeed amps were set at 12V Chaz, as Alex says, possibly they don't have the "time" to sit fiddling with each one for over an hour setting the bias "precisely" and just ship them with the trimpots set to a predetermined "point" by eye. Thing is, they sound good at 12V 13V 14V 15V 16V 17V.... question is does 16.5V sound "better" to your ears than 12V? If so, then stick with it Mike.

Alex....... where is there mention of this "fair percentage of faulty units" ? I recall "one" (Gomez's amp) hissing on one channel ;D EDIT: "two" now....

Hi Chaz,
pleased your liking the Bravo, i love mine have it on most of the time, and its been performing perfectly, for a lot of hours now. I have tried 3 different valves now(Russian 6922. Jan Phillips, and the Electo Haminonix), and for my ears, have settled for the E Harmonix supplied, as in my opinion this gives the "best all round" SQ performance.

Mike There was another Bravo yesterday with a dead channel that I recommended be sent back. See also the comments by Ian on p.3, also from Andy "just had the smpsu die on my amp! about 1 month old......arse..... now to find a 24v 1A psu " Also, Gomez had to return his. Alex

thanks PF I recall it was you who mentioned the 16.5 bias as it was designed to run at that bias, not sure which amp maker ... Indeed or Bravo you got that info from. not sure that it matters really. as easy as it was to do, (trust me I'm not an electrician lol ) I wonder why though that they would not at least explain, very much like you did PF, in a clear simple way, on a paper printout shipped with each amp. if you wanna milk the most out of your said amp, do this and that to adjust your bias, IF it really does make a difference sonic wise, which bias trim pots are set to. last ting about it for now. me not knowing up from down about it , biased mine in about .... oh 5 minutes time, I balanced the negative between the two rca in's. so one hand held posi and one on my letter opener . easy peesy. since you say 12,13,14,1516 or 17. is it safe to assume so long as u set them to the same bais that all is good? Mind you I don't know jack about it, so is there any more ... um stress on the tube or other parts? similar how overclocking a CPU shortens its life? Don't shoot the idiot just feed him more beer so reported issues so far. Bravo - 2 Indeed - 0 I'd like to try different tubes. I already have a JAN phillips 6922, but I'd like to try this NOS Russian but can't seem to locate one for sale online can any of you fine RG peeps help a brother out ;D

I checked the bias on my Bravo today and it has crept up after a couple of hours. I set it to 16.5 but just checked and it's crept to 17.8 Maybe that's why they're set lower when shipped? No harm, but maybe after a longer period than they stipulate, it may be a good idea to recheck. Mick, I presume you've tried 6H23n? I find them to sound really good. Ian

Excuse my ignorance but I would think the adjustment of the cathode R would be better giving you half supply voltage on the Source of the FET or at least best symmetry of output at the largest voltage swing crazy I know, but

There I went and done it I jinxed myself. everything was going just wonderfully then ...... I cry I have the same issue now that another member had so its Bravo - 2 Indeed - 1 this suks. here is what I did. I didconnected headphone and inputs, listened to another amp for a bit, reconnect the Indeed and with no input there was a sort of hummm at zero on vol pot , I was thinking oh noooooz , increase volume and no sound on left and right side sounds like shit. I go from Sooooooooooo Happy to TOTALLY bummed the phuck out. I guess its time to put the Indeed customer service to the test. how the hell did this happen ?.... SIGH, the other person that had this issue with the bravo I "think" had the issue from the get go. I had listened to it about 13 hours at the point it crapped out on me. I guess I'll go cry myself to sleep ... DAMN remind me to NEVER say shit is going good ever again

Robert is right . Best way to adjust is for symmetry. 12 Volt may look symmetrical (24 Volt supply) but in real life isn't. It will be somewhere between 12V and 17V. Can't verify the proper setting because I don't own one. So take out the oscilloscope and.... measure for your pleasure, for there lies the treasure ! Don't forget to load the amp with a representative load !! Only this will tell you how to do a 'technically sound' adjustment These tubes all were designed to run on plate voltages of 100V and higher to perform at their best. Not 12 to 17 Volts ... but the distortion you get this way sure can sound sweet and lovely .. And THAT's what this amp is all about. ;D If you prefer this sound over accurate (SS) performance then you run these nicely made babies and love 'm to death (the same goes for vinyl b.t.w.) It's all about how YOU perceive sounds (individual/taste/preference) (The arguments mentioned above is my main reason for not buying this amp but designed my own hybrid) Oww ...bugger ... why the hell do I keep butting in this thread ?
