OK the BigFoot for reading Alex's story. The 15% ale for when we get the bill for our next years insurance. Double Cheers, and to good health (insurance), Ron

Neave, eh? We have F&N (Fraser & Neave) aerated drinks in Singapore. Hope your granddaughter will be aerated enough to be fully bubbly again. Wish her well and fully on the way to a normal life. If any of those pesky school kids disturbed her, let uncle Chris Sn knows to fall in all of them for a proper discipline in school mannerism military style. Chris is also an ex army member just like me. Quite sure it wouldn't be the same after. Also a marksman like you Chong You pair of jammy b***ards.
I missed getting my crossed rifles by a point or two on my APWT every single year for 13 bloody years.
It doesn't p*ss me off any more though. Not much. Not even f**king slightly.
13 years. 13 attempts. Largest miss was 3 points off. Most just one or two.

Hi Ron/Chong/ rassama, thanks for your good wishes for our Granddaughter's recovery, her classmates are great kids and were delighted to see her back with them. It's early days yet could be another 18 months before she is back to her old self. Beer at 8% never mind 15% destroys everything that's good about the product and at £7 for 50cl you must be mad to even think about it. Regards, Alan

Regards, Alan When you're looking at your health insurance premiums the taste of the beer is the last thing you are thinking about. These beers are specially crafted for we Americans. No taste in beers. No common sense when it homes to health care. We must be mad.

Beer at 8% never mind 15% destroys everything that's good about the product Hi Alan, Be careful what you say about beers when there are Belgians around To put matters in balance, I completely disagree with you on this statement. IMHO, there are many fine (Belgian) beers with higher than 8% alcohol content. Incidentally, Westvleteren 12 (10,2%) has consistently been voted best beer in the world for several years on row. I personally prefer Westvletern 8 (8%), Duvel (8,5%) and Karmeliet (8,4%). Cheers, Marc

Hey, you will be called Bobo King in the Singapore army for so near misses to be a marksman like that! In the Singapore style marksmanship every year, there is a path we have to run along with full SBO (Std Battle Order) gear and the bloody heavy steel GI helmet (no Kevlar that time) with one 21 rounds magazine. To be a marksman, we had to have a minimum of 18 hits out of 21 from 300m all the way to 50m. Obviously, the 300m shots were, and still are, the most difficult shots. We were very proud to be out doing each other on "D-Day". My friend who was in the sniper wing in another camp had to have a 100% hit record before he passed the test on top of having to be undetectable by the trainers and moving in a similar path like us. Yeah, those snipers were, and still are, the "ghost" shooters of the army. Motto One Shot One Kill. They will look like this when they are on military excercises or any operations. Ah, the world record snipers exposed ................... Yup, lots of calculations and recalculations in a sniper life. A yearly :Pmarksman is still no where near them.

Last night saw me at Nottingham's Rock City to see the band Halestorm First on was "Sacred Mother Tongue" - Brilliant rock band -superb sound. Second on was "In This Moment" another rock band - a bit weird but it did help that the lead singer pranced about in some skimpy underwear and stockings. Next came Halestorm - AWESOME The sound was 110% AWESOME, it made my half decent HIFI sound like a £1 transistor radio from pound shop, absolutely stunning sound. It made me want to come home and flog all my HIFI. Halestorm are a really tight band and it is easy to see why they picked up a Grammy award for the best Hard Rock/Metal performance for their song Love Bites. Lizzy Hale's voice was beautiful and she went through a different guitar for just about every song, changing from lead guitar to rhythm guitar, she could also play the keyboards very well. Her brother Arejay Hale was superb on the drums and did a really good drum solo. A truly outstanding night even though we had to queue for three quarters of an hour in -2 degrees and really strong windy snow flurry's. Shitty mobile phone recording and the sound does not do them any justice whatsoever, but if you like rock music it will give you and idea what the band is like - (drum solo on this track).

You pair of jammy b***ards.
Jeff, I wouldn't agree with you there, the shield I showed you was when I was in the Junior army, but still a marksman. In the regular Army when we were getting ready to go to Ireland they saw from my records that I was a marksman and put me on a snipers course. I deliberately failed this course because I did not want to be stuck in an observation post in the middle of nowhere for days/weeks on end. Also when the time comes that you have to make that One shot One kill - don't think I could have lived with myself seeing some blokes head splatter into a hundred pieces through the scope. It turned out to be a wise choice in the end because they put me in the inteligence section and most of the time I was in the barracks, although I used to drive the Captain around in a little red mini in civilian clothes and a 9mm pistol stuck down the back of my pants.

But for a special occasion or a great meal not unlike a nice California or French wine. IMO. Perhaps we should start a beer theard. What's the best beer to listen to Classical with, rock, punk, even the Beatles etc. Could be interesting. Cheers, Ron

Same here immediately after any concert and switch on Hifi! Don't even sound like Hifi and more like a shit hole in the old army barrack.

I did not want to be stuck in an observation post in the middle of nowhere for days/weeks on end. Yup, wouldn't that be a "holiday hideaway" for anyone far away from everyone including the bloody officers? In fact, my friend enjoy it and his records were good enough for him to get into the sniper course. Imagine far away from the enemies and not so easily killed. Only when the bloody radio call and then have to do "work" and kill people. Rest is "sleeping time". It turned out to be a wise choice in the end because they put me in the inteligence section and most of the time I was in the barracks, although I used to drive the Captain around in a little red mini in civilian clothes and a 9mm pistol stuck down the back of my pants. Wise choice there! I too got myself posted to a CQMS job in my much later months during my 2.5 years NS after getting sick of all the shouting and running about. Really have a better life after like you. But only it lasted too short before I RODed from NS. I just only needed to make sure the correct logistics were ordered and supplied to my company officers and men. Because of that, I always had new clothing, boots and rifle as well as eat well. Of course the officers must be treated well too in logistics to have more long weekends for myself than the rest of the company. So they also had everything new just like me as first priority. Good food too during manourves. Nah, I wouldn't get that posting to something more relax if I'm a regular instead. I will be eyeing for the officer course on joining. My credentials, army and educational levels, were and still are more than good enough to be considered for the officer role.

Not expensive if you can drive by the monastery and pick up a crate Anyway, I like the beer thread idea, or maybe a "I'm currently drinking..." thread

I'm quite impressed with that one. A couple of fillers but when it's good it really shines. Oh, below is the nicest Spanish beer that I've tried thus far at 6.4.

That Westvleteren is listed in my 300 beers to try before you die book so I am going to see if i can find a bottle to sample, but I don't think I will be picking it up from the Sint Sixtus Abbey .

Where's the beer thread. I must sample some of those you guys had tasted provided I can find them locally. It's always good to be in an international forum and have international tastes as well.

Hey ho, beer talk while I'm gone. I'm going to quote Will: 'I'm fed up with hotels'. Stuck over the weekend in Mannheim. the company treated (eased?) me with a posh hotel and wad'ya think, internet is a paying service and it hasn't been working for most of the day. Aarggh.
