I’ve listening a lot to The New Life, the new album by Belfast band Girls Names. My vinyl order should arrive this week and should sound better than on Soundcloud New wave/post-punky and very enjoyable to my ears.

Good variations in the punk fashion, man! I like the music. Oh dear, loudness war and high compression there until not much dynamic range any more. Wise of you to buy the vinyl version as that should reduce the loudness war as vinyl can't take too much high volume. But high compression, vinyl likes that.

My other favourite of this year, and I’m even currently listening to it, is Brighton band Esben and the Witch. Also with a whiff of eighties as when I saw them live they made me think of Siouxie. It’s dark and moody but very melodic. The first album didn’t do it for me but the second one ( Spotify) is great imo. Got it on vinyl today. I listen a lot on mp3/spotify/etc and then get the vinyl if I really like it.

I found a long, thought to be lost, box of CDs yesterday while looking for something else completely unconnected. The contents were predominantly discs I used as demos. Anyhoosen, amoungst them were two of the original recordings of Antony Michaelsons Mozart clarinet pieces. Clarinet Quintet in A K581 & Clarinet Concerto in A major K622. Very pleasant and calming. A file of interest exists for those who are "DB" s

Hi Alan, it's not a bad track is it, if you want to hear the full CD PM me. Thanks for the link but I can't listen to Phil King or Nick Drake at the moment, the UPS on my computer packed in this morning and I have had to temporarily rig up my computer using different leads - so no sound ATM BTW how's your Granddaughter getting on? I hope she is well and in good spirits.

Hi Chris, I sampled some other tracks from the album on Folkradio .UK.................Folkradio that's a find I'll come back to it often................and found six tracks which were easy to listen to..........for me........ The rest I'd struggle a bit not to find them wearing on me, however six out of the ten tracks featured hit the button and that's not bad. My Enemy, Salford Sunday, Where's home, The Snow Goose and Saving The Good Stuff were all likeable, probably Salford Sunday most to my taste. Our Granddaughter was discharged from hospital mid February, almost three months of hospitalisation with her parents giving her 24/7 attention throughout. Final diagnosis of the condition was somewhat worse than my first post when we had been told that she had GBS. The consultants treating her have concluded that it was, Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis shortened to ADEM an immune mediated disease of the brainGlasgow's Yorkhill Children's Hospital has been magnificent in their treatment of her makes you realise just how good our NHS is and how sadly mistaken the American knockers are. BRAIN ON FIRE - My Month Of Madness - by Susannah Cahalan a true account of what happened to a young American journalist with The New York Post cites her total treatment cost at $1 million, is a book I'm reading just now. She had almost the same condition as Neave but her initial diagnosis and treatment were diabolical. The NHS treatment that Neave got, was second to non. Neave is tentatively walking, her big physical problem is that her left side arm and leg are not functioning properly although we do see progress as she grows in confidence. She starts back at School on Monday, just an hour and a half per day. The Neurologist says that she is physically fit to attend a full morning but her brain mustn't be over taxed. They'll assess her progress in May. Her School is all set up and ready for her return, she will have one to one attention and her physiotherapy sessions whilst there. Given all that she is bright and chirpy and loves to sing and is desperate to get up and dance. AGWM will have her at the Jive again as soon as she is able. I do appreciate you asking after her Chris. Regards, Alan PS might not be right to do this here but WTH................................ My two boys and their Mother (MGLW) are raising funds for Yorkhill Hospital Foundation and other Children's Charitys , they are walking 26 miles April 21st with THE KILTWALK the fund is presently standing at £1900 here's the link to................ Neaves kiltwalk nutters's fundraising page

Neaves kiltwalk nutters's fundraising page Hi Alan, I am so glad Neave is making a steady recovery it must be a nightmare for everybody concerned and not just Neave Not been able to physically walk properly must be really hard for her, the symptoms seem similar to when someone has a stroke. Lets hope her first day back at school goes well and the other kids don't take the mickey out of her - you know what kids are like they are worse than the disease itself, I hope she has plenty of GOOD friends to look after her. She's a brave lass to keep bright and cheerful and hopefully she will be singing and dancing next to Grandad soon Who cares if it is the right place or not to push your fundraising - you will now see the fund stands at £1,996.25 including Gift aid which means they are only £3.75 short of the £2,000 target. I could not help but put some money in

Very sorry to hear about your granddaughter Alan. I remember sitting in hospital with my two year old daughter once and being so relieved to know that she would get the attention and treatment she needed and that we would not have to worry about the costs because of a proper system of health care and national insurance. I too feel sorry for the Americans.
Anyway glad to hear things are on the up, it must have been quite an ordeal for her and her family, including you of course.
And on topic: as someone who never properly listened to classical music, let alone has a decent understanding of its history, I really enjoyed the BBC TV serie Howard Goodall History of Music. The last episode covered the 20th century and a lot of music I listen to has a commonality to things Steve Reich did so I had a listen to Music for 18 Musicians. Definitely love it or hate it music, but I love it.

I went to the Sydney Symphony at Parramatta Park last night and had a great night. www.ppt.nsw.gov.au/things-to-do/events-1/Sydney%20Symphony%20in%20Parramatta%20ParkIs am not a big fan of classical music but always appreciate talented musicians. Great conductor and the kids thought he was dancing so they were jumping around having a great time. During one of the pieces hundreds of people got an had a dance, something I haven't seen at a Symphony concert before. Are there any other Sydneysiders that go these free concerts all over Sydney? I have been going for 10 or 15 years and really appreciate the government doing a great job. Two highlights stand out, one was a concert of Bob Dylan's classics and the other was when I discovered Grinspoon.

I also have both of these. Listening to Unauthorized right now. I think it's the better of the two. Well recorded and sounds very nice in 24 bit 96 kHz. Couldn't figure out what the title "Lilly-110-140" was about. It was the code for Prozac during it's development at Lilly.

David Gilmour live, Remember That Night I ripped from the DVD. Great sound and show. Lots of Floyd and good songs from his solo albums. Crosby and Nash. Bowie doing "Arnold Layne" (recorded by some band named The Pink Floyd, which one is Pink?) and "Comfortably Numb". Must have been a fantastic night at the Royal Albert Hall. Anybody here get to go??? Playing over again, Ron PS-Alan, glad to hear your Grandaughter is back at school. Hope she is better very soon. You in the UK are so smart to have established the NHS. Right now my wife and I are going through are annual "change of insurer" with our employers, trying to see if we can afford for both of us to have coverage. If you live in the U.S. my best advise is "don't get sick". Between the money we pay and the amount our employers pay it is close to $40,000 USD (27,000 GBP) a year in premiums for the two of us! That doesn't count our co-pays when we do need medical care. Anybody over there want to adopt two nice middle aged Americans with some nice audio equipment?

Neave, eh? We have F&N (Fraser & Neave) aerated drinks in Singapore. Hope your granddaughter will be aerated enough to be fully bubbly again. Wish her well and fully on the way to a normal life. If any of those pesky school kids disturbed her, let uncle Chris Sn knows to fall in all of them for a proper discipline in school mannerism military style. Chris is also an ex army member just like me. Quite sure it wouldn't be the same after.
