The video above shows a kind of Swiss folk music which is known as "Ländler". I don't listen to such stuff usually and I don't like it. But I guess that it would be fun to watch for others that are not from Switzerland.
One of the guys in the video was quite famous for that type of music and he has recently died. His name was Peter Zinsli. That's why I have seen it in a Swiss online newspaper. The video itself is from 1979. Maybe that explains (partially) why these guys look so strange... ;D

Back on track and to bring the Christmas mood up! Tonight, if I go home early again ................ in hirezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz as usual. To make it clear, I'm NOT religious. Just like the Christmas time of the year. Don't we of whatever religions and cultures in the world like Christmas? Even in WWII, there were breaks in fighting on Christmas Day and New Year Day. In my firm, the British, American and German expatriates are about to fly back for Christmas too and my firm will be shut down from 23rd December to 2nd Jan 2011. So do you guys have any break too?

Maybe that's me as I listen and collect all types of music (except death rock, rap and Lady Gaga type) and find them culturally fascinating. Yup, don't need to be the new and the modern as long as they are done tastefully and well. Recorded well will be best as that will bring out the feeling and the communication of the art at it's best. Yeah, please do introduce to me more music from your part of the world.

I really don't like the stuff from Peter Zinsli (and other "Ländler" stuff), but I like Ruedi Rymann and Eliana Burki. That stuff has much more class.
Ruedi Rymann is very famous in Switzerland, but unfortunately he has passed away. I grew up and have lived in the same town as Ruedi Rymann until I was 30 years old. I've seen him also a couple of times in the past. Some of his daugthers also make music. They did that also together with their father until he died. The article from the NY Times which is quoted above is a very interesting reading. When I was a child, I was also a "Schwinger" ("Schwingen" is that "unique Swiss style of wrestling", at least that's how the NY Times called that sport). The son of Ruedi Rymann was also a "Schwinger" and I have trained also with him. I must admit that he always has won, but he was a very good sparring partner. I've learned a lot from him.
I'll look to get a few CD's from Eliana Burki and maybe also from Ruedi Rymann. Eliana Burki makes really interesting music. I also like how the Alphorn sounds.

Here's a right rocking Christmas song for you. As for Chantel McGregor she was her usual brilliant self, a real nice Yorkshire lass. The venue let the night down a bit with an awful PA system, beer out of plastic glasses, no Bitter, no Guinness and Larger tasting like essence of cuckoo piss. I decided to drink Newcastle Brooon Ale straight from the bottle. Also a wasted half hour drinking time trying to find two tickets that my friend Gary had put away somewhere safe - we couldn't find them, then had to pay again on the door. The support act Mitch Laddie wasn't bad but the drummer sounded like he needed to spend some money on a new drum kit. We still had a good night out. The thing, is even live music doesn't always sound perfect and I think we tend to forget this when listening to HI FI instead of just enjoying it.

Here's a right rocking Christmas song for you. Fantastic! The venue let the night down a bit with an awful PA system, beer out of plastic glasses, no Bitter, no Guinness and Larger tasting like essence of cuckoo piss. I decided to drink Newcastle Brooon Ale straight from the bottle. Oh dear, toss the sound engineer out like a bouncer and get a refund! So you can have 2 LIVE events for the price of one. But it didn't seem that way as ............ Da,da, ........... below. Hmm, something for Santa to do! The thing, is even live music doesn't always sound perfect and I think we tend to forget this when listening to HI FI instead of just enjoying it. That's what LIVE music is all about. Not studio perfection! Just let your hair down, if you still them , and gyrate your body and hands to the rythm of the music. Let the musicians struff their stuffs, not to pitch perfection, but to what they enjoy most and at their NATURAL best. But I can guarantee you that after hearing LIVE music and switching on your stereo at home, no matter what the price, we will cry out loud for sure. Even more pitch imperfection than the LIVE musicians. Yeah, for you too for season greeting. Heh, heh, British style .......... Here:

You're dead right, you cannot beat the sound of LIVE music no matter how good your equipment is, HI FI is a million light years away from live music. But it is our hobby and the better sounding it is the more we will listen to it - anything than boring TV.
Made me laugh, but this one made me laugh more.
