The Human League..... Credo. Some warped bugger sent it to me through the post  Oh man, that's SO cool!! Shite People..... What a nice guy that must have been ....  Gay Times has awarded 'Credo' with 5/5 and has been hailed as an 'incredible pop offering  Hopefully, little monkey arrived too. Ian Yes, the APE arrived as well (4pm) and I am afraid it is totally knackered, will have to be binned  Nah, not really!  Sitting listening to it as I type this and it is working PERFECTLY... one of the SMD diodes had been wiped out.... I don't keep those in stock so fitted a full sized UF4001 in it's place.... panic over, she lives! No charge Ian, it only took me about 20 minutes to open it, fit the diode and close it again. Many thanks for the HL album, I will have a GOOD listen this evening.... I am glad that BOTH the Pinkie AND the APE did their jobs and just took out "one" component each.... a diode in the APE and a fuse in the Pinkie.... it's good to know that these protection devices actually do their jobs Hell, there is no need to send anything as a thank you.... it's just like you sending me a personal song like "don't you like me Mikey".... you're a friend, no need to send chocolate cigars man Seriously Ian, replacing a diode to me is much the same as you tinkling away on a piano for 20 minutes.... if you REALLY want to butter me up then write me a song with these lyrics...... "Mike Grierson is the best.... He is the king of the world everybody likes Mikey, he has an electric bikey. King of the world, King Dong trouser snake King Kong Ape.... etc. etc..... Release it and bring me onto a stage (in front of 80,000 women).... By the way Ian.... this "Credo" album is like popcorn music.... it is VERY immature in structure and I cannot believe that "Phil" can't do better than this after almost 40 years in the business.... it is repetitive, it is unimaginative, it is absolute shite (in a nutshell)..... Possibly quite acceptable in a jukebox near you back in the 80's but an absolute "cringe" inducing listen in 2011.... It's the same throughout.... da da da da, bu bu bu bum.... it is monotonous, almost like an "upbeat" funeral dirge.... I have endured the "entire" album but that is the first and last time I will subject my ears to that shite.... What kind of audience are they expecting to "net" with that rubbish? This is like charity shop music gone wrong.... Possibly the most uninteresting piece of shite I have listened to for many a long year.... you really do have a warped sense of humour sending me that and I cannot believe that I have spent the best part of an hour listening to it! You are WELL out of that vibe mate! Not even close to "working man's club"... we are talking middle aged "bungalow" here. Give me Status Quo any day over this pish |

I feel very bad saying that as you sent me the album as a gift AND you were the founding member of the group but I just cannot (and will not) lie and say it's "wonderful".... it is absolute garbage from beginning to end.

Mike, I don't take your work for granted and it's important that people respect the speed that you can find these things and also, the sheer bloody quality that comes out of your mods. The V2 is sheer genius. That doesn't come in 20 minutes.... it's a long time of experimentation and fiddling and the same goes for repairs.
We do bloody well courtesy of you and I don't think you get thanked enough. The number of times I've seen you write on here things along the lines of .... 'send it to me' ..... 'I'll send you a tube'..... 'I'll pop some op amps in a bag for you to try'..... 'I'll send you ....... see what you think'.
There are not many people like that Mike!! Seriously.
Also ....... sorry about the album!!! ;D

Thanks Ian. Your early stuff was fantastic (HL) and your H17 stuff was also good.... it's a pity that BOTH bands have deteriorated (big time) without you as a driving force. You are naturally progressive and a true "driver"...... you fancy starting a new band? A 50 year old 6 foot 4 lead singer who has gone bald with worry.... I'm sure teenagers across the globe will go mad for it Seriously, tho'..... It could go global on Radio two for a few weeks |

Uriah Heep - 'Very 'Eavy, Very 'Umble'. The first track is based on virtually one chord. But as the packet says.... Very 'Eavy. Not sure when it came out .... some time in the 70's. The dramatic wide vibrato on the voices is very funny. (The voice wobbling, in this case, very wide) Believe it or not, they are still performing live!! Ian Ah, Uriah Heep. That was the second rock band that my friend introduced to me by lending me their current album (sorry, I have forgotten which one) then when I was in secondary school. The first being Deep Purple. Thanks for letting us know they are still performing. I didn't know that for sure. |

Hi Chong, The Who are brilliant loud and distorted. I'm pulling your leg before you go off on one!!! The Live at Leeds album needs a seriously big system to sound like anything close to the real thing. They were the loudest group that I ever heard. Shocking levels. However, the bass sound always used to cut through because he used a lovely 'stringy' tone which was amazing to listen to in that massive wall of sound that they could produce. Roger has a trout farm near to me. He's a country squire and deaf as a post virtually. More normal nowadays I suppose. Hope the Who has calmed you down. You seemed very stressed about the garden and your system yesterday. I was holding my breath 'cos I thought you were going to blow a gasket .... Ian |

In fact, it seems about correct and the mastering done by the sound engineers is A-Ok. Of course, don't expect audiophile sound. The Live at Leeds album needs a seriously big system to sound like anything close to the real thing. Of course, when I say loud, it means Hifi loud and above normal loudness we hear in the home environment. So, I'm also pulling you guys leg. Who wants rocket SPL. Constructive free speach does not imply other forum members should be (un)openly be able put down by other forum members or criticise anything else then their remarks.
Freedom of speech is a good thing but should not be used to attack other people.
This is true for all members, moderators and admins.
Music as well as taste are open to discussion and NO-one is ever absolutely RIGHT as it involves 'religion' too.
I sure hope I never have to use my administrative powers to edit posts or even ban members because of 'stretching the limits' to free speach, which I am all for.
Let the blood pressures of all members be dropped, hopefully without the need for medications.

Blimey Chong. I think I must have missed something! I blow my lid every now and then but for me it's blown over in an hour and I forget about it. The worst thing is I get angry for other people!! However, I never harbour grudges and normally end up really liking the very people I had a barney with .....
One I got mixed up in on here was quite funny. It was a language thing and I was completely unaware of being offensive until Mike pointed out that what I was writing was not meant how it was taken. I wasn` really on the ball, but te guy I offended was Isael, and I really like him a lot. The funnything is that we`re both English speakers but just different Countries speak slightly different English!!!
It never ceases to amaze me how well non English people speak my language so well. Even more subtle aspects of the language.
Anyway, it can so easily be misunderstanding. I don`t think we have stalkers here!!! Well, I hope not.
Keep pumping The Who. That`ll blow it out of your head.

I must have missed something too Chong..... what is causing you to get so stressed up my friend? I used to get that way myself and got into some right old wars online but it's really not worth it! If someone is pissing you off then just ignore them, you're never going to meet them UNLESS they are stalking you and turn up at your front door I remember Tuberoller (Fred) on Head-Fi... some weird Head-Fiers actually DID turn up on his doorstep and questioned his military record (and other things)... he was never seen on Head-Fi again! I cannot believe that people get SO passionate about audio that they would actually turn up at someone's house and beat the crap out of them I had that rather strange "Stuart" guy a while back who reckoned he had done a "profile" on me and told me he would come to my house and beat the crap out of me.... I found out where HE lived and sent him an e-mail telling him I would be staying at the Hotel opposite his house and would LOVE to meet him! Never heard from him again A damned nut job... gave me a good laugh though Don't take it all so seriously mate, we don't want you having a stroke at your computer! Mike. |
