Oh, Love Over Gold. Telegraph Road may be 15 minutes long but by gaw does it give me shivers whenever I hear it. Not to mention that the second half is just one extended and glorious guitar solo. We've got the original press of Love Over Gold on CD, Making Movies and Alchemy on vinyl and Dire Straits (self-titled album) and Brothers in Arms on tape somewhere. At some point when I get the new Blu-Ray player I'm looking at I'll buy BiA on SACD. Screw Blu-Ray, SACD is what I want it for. So then I'll hijack the player and the rest of my family will complain - sadly for them I'll be too busy having my ears caressed to care. -JoetheArachnid

Alex I had the original on vinyl years ago, the cd i got for xmas is a super bit mapping version ? Making movies was a good album i just didnt like les boys on it. paddy Paddy My copy is the original VERTIGO 800-088-2 from 1982. That was from before the loudness brush. If you want to compare versions , I can UL "Private Investigations" for you. Regards Alex Same here Alex but mine is from 1985.... you must have a VERY rare copy if it was made in 1982

Mike Seen them live in liverpool empire 1988 and they were loud, they done sonic attack i thought my ears were going to bleed. paddy Even better these days... Dave brock at the helm but it has taken on a more "urban" space / electro type of beat...... the presentation (lights) is absolutely ZERO (compared to Phil Calvert's days) but the sound is better than ever. Last time I saw Dave Brock he left the stage with a plastic carrier bag.... he said "I'm off to do my shopping"...... a carrier bag stuffed full of magic mushrooms.... Hawkwind are the ONLY band I know that can "take you there" without you having to ingest illegal substances.... from the minute they take to the stage you are taken into space on a journey in the mothership..... No other band I know can take you to that place in space. Paddy, meant to say..... welcome to the machine All the best, Mike.

Saw them a few times live and they were soooooo "tight".... true class! My favourite albums.... making movies and Love over gold.... I think they lost the plot with "on every street", that was the beginning of the end IMO .

^^^^ I lost my copies of those somewhere along the line I've dug out Talk Talk "The Party's Over" BRILL. I used this one for a bit of timing practice, good relentless beat. I liked the way all their albums had very different moods, this and The Colour Of Spring were my faves but I never really got into Spirit of Eden.
