An excellent choice Will. Possibly the best Xmas song ever! The only one that comes close is Wizards...

Stevie Wonder - Superstition
Completely full of awesome.
Especially like the way the drummer is grooving to a completely different beat to what he's playing.

Who me? I'm a whizz at 'three blind mice' on a recorder!
I can't play an instrument for toffee, so leave it to the experts, and enjoy it all the more.
That Andre chap is the son of a guy in the US, who I got in contact with when researching my family tree. Although not related, he did have a chunk of my tree between 1760-1880, which was nice.
Must admit though, even though I have a CD, his music isn't for me.

I had an unintended extended "sesh" this morning, started off with a few soft rock tracks and grew into albums, so much for the new advert I was supposed to be putting together. These PC files are lethal, too easy & too distracting. These were the ones that started the rot...

Gosh, I'd forgotten Jenny Morris!
Following a discussion about the album X, I went back to this and I find it a truly moving CD. 'The Whirlwind' by Transatlantic. Modern Prog rock is a difficult area to work in because it isn't always supported by the market too well but also, its height was 30 years ago and recreating the 'feel' in modern music can be really hard to do. One thing about it is its sincerity which in modern times can come across as 'old hat' but this grips me.
While they were looking the other way The wind came and blew them all away They thought they could stand in the stormy day But the wind came and blew them all away The wind came and blew them all away They thought they could stand in the stormy day But they wind came and blew them all away
The disaster reference and the bottled emotion contained in this album takes it to another level for me.
I hadn't listened to it for a while until it was mentioned, but it's a cracker of an album.
This track is the 'aftershock' and so resorts to simple statements and chords. Gradually, the drummer pushes the tempo with these screaming solos and a feeling of anger builds in the music. The emotion contained ......
To me, music is communication and this is a great example.
Just to give you a close up of the skills and techniques used on the guitar in this have a look: -
Have a look at them live .....
