Insomniac In other words, this cut down offering is unlikely to outperform the X-DAC V3, which uses the same DAC, and straight out of the box, is very underwhelming, except perhaps to a typical magazine reviewer ? SandyK

I can't make out the chips on the board but it seems there maybe asynchronous sample rate convertor in there too, possibly SRC4392 used for reclocking and digital receiver?

Leo That's what I was looking for... What receiver and upsampler is used? I'm guessing pcm270* usb. via i2s between all From the pic of the pcb, it may have great possibilities? Allan ps Alex I think the cool change has arrived, still waiting for the building to cool down.

I borrowed a TC-7510 MK6/4 for a few weeks, its not a bad little dac for the price
I've not heard the TC-7520 yet, it would be interesting to compare it against my dacs

I own a V-DAC and together with my Squeezebox digital out, it makes a great combo. Music sounds more refined and detailed with 'additional' music layers added. The powersupply is very minimal so it would be nice to have a Pinkie with 12v DC output.

Hi all,
Is this a nice dac to connect my lappy preferably via USB to my fully modded X-can v3 with pinky and AKG K701? Or is there something that gives more bang for the buck?

Leo, I'd be interested to hear your buffalo compared to anything... From what I read, the sabre is pretty much the best chip out, and TP's implementation doesn't seem to be too bad. Add on to this that you're as diy savvy/knowledgeable as you are... and I imagine it would sound pretty damn good

The special power supplies that he is using may be worth even more than the DAC! I did see mention in the thread of the designs not being kosher to share as they were top secret and awesome

Hi peeps, what's the best place to buy a V-dac? In holland I can't buy it for less than 300 Euro and the cheapest on ebay is 399 dollars. I heard that in GB it sells for 160 GBP and that's a lot cheaper (depends on the shipping costs). Can someone recommend a webshop?
