Krisno Do you normally diagnose your patients over the telephone ? If you want the problem resolved, write/print out a referral, and send it to a specialist! SandyK

hehe... the specialist is so far away!.....
My x-canv2 has as far as I remember a 6 'legged' transistor on the mainboard(not PSU board), ca in the middle with burn-marks around it.. what is that 6 legged animal? I wonder if those tubes don't get enough power and therfor the 'screeching' sound? But the soldering should be done well, and it had this fault before I touched it.
my V2 has looped with Sepultura chaos a.d non-stop now for 5 days, I will listen to it tomorrow morning.

OK.
This V2 monster has now been on in 1 week, looping Sepultura Chaos A.D album. The same goes for the latest NOS DAC. The NOS dac is known as dark, and gets tremendous reviews other places. Nobody has described the DAC as sharp, thin or 'screechy' as I know.
The V2 has settled maybe a bit down... It's not bad, and it really seems to combine good SS with valve. But it still has that edge, but that edge also gives the amp 'life'. The v8 was overly laidback and lush and boring.
I am not sure what to do... but I just broke myself on the Burson HA-100. Burson HA-100 is a full discrete amp including a 10watt discrete powersupply. There is no I.C. in the amp at all. Maybe it will be too good and show up flaws elsewhere in the system. Maybe the Yulong was a safer thing. The Lehmann is opa2134 based, but its so expensive these days. The Burson will be my last amp. The Shanling PH100 is also discrete and known as 'dark' which suits the AKG K701 so well, but it was said to have such narrow soundstage.
The Burson HA100 is based on 2nd generation Burson discrete opamp.. On some tracks the V2 is though very nice. Probably it is a keeper... but I would like to find out what makes it such edgy. It is edgy not only with NOS dac but with eksternal cdplayer and on analog output from laptop. The V3 never was that . Possible to make it 'darker' somehow?

HP Laptop -> Foobar with ASIO drivers -> USB -> NOS DAC 8xTDA1543 & reclocking module -> modded X-canV2 -> AKG K701 -> Nils Lofgren - Acoustic Live
Very good indeed. Very alive.... still somewhat bright..
while waiting for the Burson, can you ship me those secret ferrite beads with link + the gain mod transistors Mike?

I just watched 'The spirit' trailer on Quicktime, HD format. As I started I heard some rumbling and noise and I thought 'what the hell is that noise outside' and I took the headphone off, and it was silent. I restarted the trailer and then I heard it, the noise which was so real was coming from the trailer.
The combination of the NOS dac and now this burned in V2 on some stuff sound just amazing. I agree.. A very good mod of this amp. Still though it could have been a bit darker for the AKG's. For the Sennheiser HD 650 this must be the amp to get for sure. Nice work guys.
I will see how the Burson is working. Then I will see if it s the DAC or the amp which is the problemmaker.

Miguel I realise that it is too soon to give a report on SQ after the changes, plus the new valves, but is the volume control action more satisfactory, or still not enough improvement? Alex
