I've made a couple up in these enclosures and quite like them..... the photos really don't do them any justice. They are ever so slightly longer (and a bit wider) than the standard Pinkie enclosures but still pretty "compact" which I like. I may just run these alongside the normal Pinkies so customers will have a choice of grey or black enclosures (they will be the same price) , what do you think? They are good quality "thick" ABS (about 5mm) and more "rubbery / dense" in texture than "hard" plastic and will last a lifetime.... I'll have to work out some kind of labelling system to fit into the small rectangular recess on the top of the enclosure (there's also one on the bottom)..... Anyways, feedback on this enclosure appreciated.... remember, I want to keep it "compact" and as cheap as possible to ship with all the "goodies" inside the enclosure.... it's not meant to "look" good but would you be happy to have one of these sitting on your rack? By the way.... the colour shade is more accurate in the pics shown in my previous post.

That is very nice Mike, I see a 24 VDC PSU! Interesting, very interesting. Yes but I will not be "advertising" the 24V version.... I have been asked for them a few times and just say "yes" if someone asks me if I do a 24VDC version..... I built the first one of these Pinkies up today (the one in the previous post was just a dummy model with no internals) and it will be on it's way to you Miguel if you PM me your address I've made you a 24VDC version which I hope will come in handy for you It incorporates the latest English made, varnished dipped transformer.... the DC circuit is custom made in Ireland..... the internal wiring is ALPHA 600V (made in the USA) and the entire thing is put together by me in Scotland. Please let me know what you think of the "feel" of the thing.... I really like it and will shortly be running it in conjunction alongside the standard enclosure as an alternative (it will be the same price) I will eventually be getting all my Pinkies made "out of house" so I can concentrate on other things but that won't be happening for a few months..... I have found a good company down in England and am currently in talks with them..... In the meantime, I will continue to build these by hand but am looking forward to getting them built "out of house" (to exacting standards) so I can bring a few more ideas I have kicking about in my head to market. Anyways.... Number 001 is yours Miguel.... it will be your first experience of one of my "DC" Pinkies... I hope you enjoy it. Here are a few pics.... I still have to stick the Pinkie label on ;D

I have been working with these Grey enclosures for a few weeks now and have decided to go "full out" with them and stop providing the Pinkies in the black enclosures from June 2010. The Grey enclosures are better to work with, they look a lot better, they are more sturdy and much better quality than the black Evatron enclosures. Full details to appear shortly. The specs of the new enclosure: Flame retardant to UL94-V0. Environmental sealing to IP54 of IEC 529. The top and bottom case are lightly textured which affords a non-scratch surface and maintains the high quality finish. Four M-3 screws are countersunk in the base and thread into brass inserts which secure the LID and end panels firmly. The pictures really don't do these enclosures justice.... in reality they look very nice. They are more expensive than the existing black enclosures but the price of the Pinkie will remain the same for the forseeable future. Pinkie 2010:

I hope Miguel will "chip in" with regard to the new enclosures..... I received this from his iphone earlier today: "1. The new enclosure is more stable, not as top heavy. 2. The new enclosure is much better looking and more "professional" looking." I've had a few questions about "how does it look like alongside a standard black Pinkie" so here are a few shots I took earlier on:

Blimey it's Clone Wars, Mike's taking over the world.... " Succumb to the Pink Side and feel its power" Seriously, seeing them together like that really shows off the difference. Definitely a good move Mike.

Southern Hemisphere version ? Yeh.... I was actually standing on my head when I made that one ;D Mike I make all my gear with the Earth of the IEC socket uppermost for safety reasons. The vast majority of Silicon Chip projects are also done that way, even their recent SC DAC . Alex

I have had the new version of the 24vdc Little Pinkie for a while now. It is fully burnt in and it is used to power a Solo SRGII. I prefer the new enclosure because:
1. It is more physically stable. By that I mean that since it is lower it has a lower center of mass and it is not as wobbly as the black enclosure. If you look at the pictures you will notice the black enclosure is taller and narrower. 2. The shape of the new enclosure and overall look is more appealing and has more WAF. If the enclosure could be found in black as well as the current tan color it would be a win win situation for both Mike and the customers which want a color option.
How does it make the Solo SRGII sound? One word ... superb and I really like having an on/off switch. I have not done a side by side w/ the PSU1 yet so at this moment I can not say which sounds better. I should have an idea in a week or two.
Cheers Mike, you have winner!

The black enclosure Pinkies will be phased out from today. The two tone Grey enclosures are much better quality, more robust and nicer looking in the flesh (IMO). I will be offering the option of the black enclosures for a while (until stocks are depleted) but am going full out with the new enclosures from there on in. The new enclosures are SO much better, in every aspect, over the black ones and, as such will now be the new look of the Pinkie. Pinkie 2010 www.rock-grotto.co.uk/pinkiepsu.htm

Hi Mike.
I am old spanish customer. Now I am a happy man with the V1 full upgrade Remenber first the V1 upgrade kit, after bases valves, 2 6H23 and two op-amps. I had finished burn in and WOOO, I have fantastic ¨NEW¨X-CAN. Now I have just bought in second hand market a V8P unit for my second gear.
I would like to order you the best Little Pinkie for V8 you are doing. Watching in spanish headphone forum a few menbers changed the power cord between MF PSUV8 and X-CAN V8 with Kinber Cable and they said the results is fantastic. What do you think about it? Is it necesary in little pinkie? By the way how much will be the cost and shiping to Spain for a old customer and Grotto forum menber? Thank You

I do not recommend the use of "boutique" mains cables with the Little Pinkie, purely because I think they are a rip off and most likely any perceived "improvements" are down to placebo. There is MOV anti surge protection inside the Pinkie and also class X2 across the line filtering.... this will do a better job than a big fat cable costing $$$...... of course, each to their own and if you perceive a £200 mains cable makes an improvement then who am I to argue with you

Hi,
Can I just confirm that the latest Little Pinkie works perfectly with the XCan V8P? Also, does this Little Pinkie power supply provide the same type / amount of voltage as per the stock wallwart (I am guessing the Little Pinkie must provide higher current on demand).
Also, can it be safely connected directly to a power outlet without having to be plugged into these filtering / protection power boards? The reason I ask is that I moved my V8P into my bedroom today where I have a Monster power filtering board, and the sound from the V8P became rather emasculated and undynamic (in relative terms).

Mine works fine and I'm not using any mains filtering at all. A change of valves and a Little Pinkie works wonders!!

I am going to be making a few "special edition" Pinkie's toward the end of the year. They will feature British made toroidal transformers, IEGO 24K Gold plated IEC sockets, EPCOS 275V varistors, EVOX class X2 / Y2 suppression caps, ALPHA 600V internal wiring, Multicore "smart" solder used throughout and a nifty illuminated on / off switch something similar to this..... Details to appear soon
