Darn, Pinkie, now you've made me curious (nice pics, btw): Any further sonical desription to share, yet? Especially curious about the treble, cause I'm not much of a fan for very bright/shrill highs... These are far removed from sounding bright Manfred. Lovely smooth highs with an energetic almost valve like fluidity to the mids.... tight and extremely weighty bass. Certainly NOT an in your face listen... I'd describe them as fluid with a valve like warmth yet very open sounding. To be honest the midrange reminds me very much of the AKG K-240 midrange, the top end like the K-501 and the bass very much like the Sennheiser HD-600 but much more accurate and tight. A superb headphone and if I'd paid 4 times as much I'd be very happy with this gorgeous sound, they're a true steal at £60 and... yes... they are "reference" quality IMO. The soundstage is not out of your head like some 'phones but my god the presentation is heavenly.... absolutely spot on sonically and ever so comfortable on the head. I'm listening to them though a modded X-CAN V2 as I type and I could sit here listening to this kind of sound till the cows come home. I tried them hooked up to the ipod earlier and they absolutely beat the living daylights out of the PX-100 (which I thought were superb ipod partners) sooooo easy to drive, effortless and capable of very high SPLs. They're only 24 hours into the bed in, if the sound stays the same I'll be over the moon if it improves further I'll be delirious.... seriously, they are good.... very good.

So, when are you going to re-cable them? I'm not Miguel. I think QED know how to design a good cable and doubt something I could sling together would sound any better.... different maybe..... I've got no reason to change anything about them, they're one of the few headphones I've been really happy with over the years (the others being HD-600, AKG K-501 and ERGO Model 2) These are truly classy sounding cans and I'd go as far to say, this far into the proceedings, classic cans. Ignore these at your peril.

I followed everything about the burnin till it got to the Hot radiator part. Please shed some light on this action and its supposed benifits. For I am just a sponge ready to soak up all thngs I can. Just something I've always believed in Man227..... moving parts / heat / bed in.... just like a car engine, if you never run it it will never bed in and if you run it in first gear at 3,000rpm for 30,000 miles you still won't have bedded it in. With headphones I like to run them warm for a couple of days with the volume cranked up to quite loud levels (music on loop) then down to low volumes for a couple of days (with them on my head) then to medium levels for a few days then up and down then with some classical music, some rock, some jazz, some reggae, some insane frequency sweeps.... I dunno, it's probably bullshit and unnecessary but the way I have always done it. I am 100% sure they sound a LOT more open and relaxed after 24 hours strapped onto the radiator with loud music playing through them, the diaphragms have had a right good workout and you can automatically tell it's done them good. Where yesterday the phones would sound as if they were struggling at 2 o' clock position on the volco today they can handle 3 o' clock with no bother and sounding as if they could handle anything you want to throw at them without them thickening up and losing control. It's all about relaxing those diaphragms IMO.... work, work and more work until they relax into their final operating positions...... just like a new pair of gloves V an old pair of gloves, Just like new shoes V old shoes...... they all need a period to bed into their operating environment and movement, stress and heat all play their own part.

Whatever way you look at it, these cans are stunning. Audiophile sound quality but for a fraction of the price. I'll certainly be considering them in the future.

Whatever way you look at it, these cans are stunning. Audiophile sound quality but for a fraction of the price. I'll certainly be considering them in the future. The synergy with the X-CAN V2 is amazing, almost as if they're part of the amp. No 'phones I have heard pairs up so well with the little guy. I'll try them with my other amps as well but so far they're tailor made for the WNA MKlll and V2 (also fantastic with the ipod, I think I mentioned that) I can't fault any aspect of the sound and that's pretty unusual as I usually find a few points to nitpik (and enjoy nitpiking!) I seriously can't fault the DR-150 so far sonically. Remember, I removed the grille cloth that was secured by sellotape.... easy to do (four screws) and the sound instantly opened up... so I suppose that's a nitpik.... why secure grille cloth onto the grilles with sellotape effectively masking the grilles? I see no reason other than cosmetic (hiding the drivers from view) thing is they look better with bare metal grilles and drivers on view.... just like the senns and grados.... and sound a lot better too! This kind of performance at this price level and only 30 hours in is totally unprecedented. It usually takes me weeks / months to reach a conclusion (sometimes years) these guys are performing so well and so comfortable on the head 30 hours out of the box they've taken me by surprise, they'd be astonishing at 4 times the price I cannot fault them. These are almost certain to get the Yellow Bear seal of approval

Manfred / lini Hi Manfred, The place I bought my pair from do actually ship to Europe, you's have to e-mail them and enquire how much it would be..... I'd be inclined to "haggle" with the shipping charge and try to get it to around the £8 point... after all, they're relatively light headphones and not a fridge. www.hificablesandaccessories.co.uk/ These guys deliver FREE to the UK and surprisingly by second class standard delivery Of course, I could always buy a pair for you Manfred and ship them over..... see how much they want for shipping first....

I'm pleased to report that these headphones continue to amaze me! They are so open and musical it makes you wonder where the other guys are getting off charging hundreds of quid for performance, in parts, that doesn't come anywhere close to the overall sound of the Goldrings. I can't fault the lows, the mids or the highs.... they're all integrated and perfectly balanced. Whether you listen at low, medium or high levels these 'phones come across as vibrant, buoyant and packed with energy... never harsh nor fatiguing but always energetic and enthralling..... superb! Tonight I'm trying them with the very revealing Graham Slee Solo headphone amplifier and let me tell you that all this CRAP you read in the hi-fi mags about "this amp requires expensive 'phones to shine, blah blah blah" is utter nonsense! These sixty quid beauties are perfect partners for the Solo and they pick up on every microscopic detail and nuance the Solo throws into them.... they're loving it, every second of it, everything the Solo does well with the HD-600 it does equally as well and much better in places (namely in the bass and mid) with the DR-150.... there are no limitations / conditions attached to these 'phones, feed them with an ipod and you're guaranteed one hell of a listen, hook them up to an X-CAN V2 and they respond truly highlighting the V2s valve like sound... hook them up to the Solo and they become part of the machine pummeling your lobes with the detail and resolution the Solo is famed for..... nothing is lost in translation with the DR-150. From my brief journey with these 'phones It's been my experience that the DR-150 adapts to it's situation.... it doesn't complain or demand better / lesser amplification it just zones in and becomes part of whatever machine it is hooked up to..... amazing, absolutely amazing..... I have NEVER known a 'phone so adaptable and willing to accomodate. Sixty quid? as the yanks say.... "it's a no brainer" Stunning! I'm usually experiencing a bit of buyers remorse 2 days into a headphone purchase willing them to "bed in fast" or sending them back for a refund..... there are only a couple I have ever thought of as real keepers this early on ..... one being the HD-600 the other the ERGO 2 (and with both of them it was weeks / months before I truly accepted them as keepers) , I have never before at this stage of the game ordered another pair of the same headphone...... this morning I bought a second pair of DR-150.......... they're that good in my opinion. A couple more pics: (Paired with WNA MKlll, X-CAN V2 / V3, DarkVoice 336i, headcase HFN-009 to follow.....) Perfect with the ipod Perfect with Graham's BBC reference Solo

Thanks, Mike, for the pointer as well as the kind offer. I'm inclined to order two of these thingies as well, btw - but unlike with you that's pretty usual with me: I've also got 2x K240M, 2x K501, 2x K240S, 2x HQ-1300 and 3x DT531, 'cause I'm the Führer of collectitis. ;D Grinnings from Munich! No review as yet Rick, just a few preliminary observations / comments..... all extremely positive too I'll do a full, long winded review "proper" once they hit around 1000 hours. I don't know what the take on these is at head-Fi I haven't been there for ages, they've probably already been well documented over there... I seldom visited the headphone forums there even when I was an active member so I really don't have a clue.

You vill hav two of zee headphonesphielen settens, it is yoor duty shveinhounden! *rofl* "Team hoarder" - now, that sounds good to me. But maybe it's also "Team hate it when dear stuff breaks and there's no replacement to be had anymore" However, it might also be "Team you need two examples to check whether burn-in is real"... Hmmm, or "Team control group"? Oh, well... In any case, I'll completely deny being a member of "Team greedy bastard" - "Team total nutcase" would seem more likely... Grinnings from Munich! Manfred / lini P.S.: Rickmonstermeister: I think they already were FOTM over at HF, but only for a brief period. Too cheap for showing off, I'd assume... P.P.S.: Did I already mention that I really like your choice of smileys on this board, Mike?

A few of them were lost in the thermo nuclear virus attack on my website.... most of the guys are stand ins until I can find the originals. I was really surprised about the attack: hadn't been here for a couple of days and totally missed it - only read the respective thread some two days ago. Did you succeed with a complete exorcism? Malware on Windows is rather nasty these days (which is why I'd rather recommend Linux for webserver tasks - or NetBSD for the hardcore freaks ). Caught a Trojan myself last Wednesday, and it's such a nuisance to get rid of these... Regarding the stand-ins: I'm really fond of the - and the isn't bad, either (just the eyes don't really fit, I think - too unfriendly for my taste...). Greetings from Munich! Manfred / lini

You've got a very good point there Manfred, I've definitely noticed a degree of snobbery where monetary value of a component means more than sound quality and if you dare confess you like the $$ component over the $$$$$ one you'll get all these $$$$$ owners wading in telling you how wrong and uninformed you are.... arseholes I have zero time for and pay no attention to. If these, usually very uninformed, guys want to pay $$$$$ for something that doesn't sound as good as the $$ component then fair enough...... it's them justifying their daftness in pounds shillings and pence that pisses me off and trying to make out they are "gurus" because the're stupid enough to have paid $$$$$ for a $ item wrapped in bullshit.... the same people who know fuNk all about how a thing works and buy a $$$$$$ interconnect and then have us all believe we should aspire to their greatness and throwing money away is the only way. The boutiques stay in business because of these idiots... rich guys who couldn't wire a mains plug if their life depended on it... they believe all the marketing crap and think "money" is the key to audio nirvana... self appointed idiots who haven't a clue how real music should sound... they class themselves as the "elite" I class them as mugs. These DR-150's through a good quality amp and source will easily outperform a "high end" system strung together by a clueless twat who doesn't know his arse from his elbow... "oh, how the mids were improved by the inclusion of the $$$$$$ black python interconnect"....... fuNk off! The same kind of people who class an expensive car as a sign of "status" yet haven't a clue how to do an oil change. I'm proud to be a member of "team inner workings" rather than "team big headed know nothing clueless idiot with nothing more than a small penis and packed wallet to guide me" A home grown pea always tastes better than a Bird's Eye Frozen pea
