With any mass manufactured item there is always the chance of the odd duffer. Are you refering to the sound quality or the "action" of the control? If the latter do check between the knob and faceplate for any crud that may have ingressed. If the former you may have a problem elsewhere. You are a little limited on what will fit there without some kind of modification. However, the Noble and the TDK have had some glowing reviews. look here for details.

I'm trying to put together a cheap-o power supply for my X-Can V3, since the original one sucks. I found this thread via google, plus I already read alot of Pink Floyd's info on modding the X-Can V3, which I'm doing at the moment. (Waiting for components from Mouser) I will try going with this 15 quid 30VA 12-0-12 toroidal transformer, that Riker links to. sklep.toroidy.pl/en_US/p/TTSA0030-Transformer-AUDIO-TSA30VA-voltage-to-50V/307And this 5 quid aluminium casing from ebay. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aluminum-PCB-Instrument-Box-Enclosure-Electronic-Project-Case-DIY-100-100-50mm-/311483260517But can any one of you walk me through the MOV and X2 Cap? Can't seem to figure out what components I have to buy? I'm pretty familiar with RS Online, so links would be ace. Fuse holder, fuse, cable input and output is stuff I can get from work, so no problem there. Btw. hi, I'm from the Danish forum Hoved-fi(Danish for Head-fi). Don't know if you guys heard of us. I'm an electrician, so I have basic understanding of soldering and such. I already did the input cap mod on the X-Can, since it doesn't need any components.

Hi Morten, Welcome to the forum and, yes, I know Claus who formed Hoved-Fi........ He learnt what he needed to know here and then jumped ship and built his own ship over in Denmark (after swimming ashore to accumulate timber) The class X2 capacitor is rated at 100nF / 275VAC and is soldered between live and neutral. I can supply you with the MOV you require. All the best, Mike.

We certainly have. No prizes for guessing where the founder of your forum started out as a member, before starting his own forum and little online shop. Mike should be able to assist you with the surge rating of the VDR (presumably 275V) that he used, as well as the value he found worked best in his PSU for the X2 capacitor.
Alex
P.S. It appears that Mike posted his reply while I was composing mine.

Hi Mike. I really appreciate all info you have lying around, about modding the X-Can V3. This really made it easy, and I've spent a lot of late nights reading. Very exciting. Mostly the reason why I choose to buy a used X-Can. I can make a post on this forum too, when I'm done with mine. Btw, I've found an class X2 "MKP Capacitor 100nF 275V" at my local dealers website. This should suffice? And the MOV. Wouldn't shipping from GB to DK compared to the value of the MOV be horrible? Maybe one of these 9 275V metal oxide varistors at my local dealer will suffice? elektronik-lavpris.dk/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=275v+metal+oxide+varistor&search_in_description=1(I really have no clue what a metal oxide varistor is, except what wikipedia says.

Yup, That toroid is correct. Connect orange and red together..... that is 0V and you connect that to the center pin of the DIN plug. Mike.

On the primary side, brown is live and blue is neutral. For 230V input connect the grey and purple wires together.

Thanks! I will order one of these. I found a nicer all black aluminum box at Ebay, at only 6 quid, which is also on it's way.
