Hi Mike,
Daughter has had box for a little while now. Big smiles . I rewired all the inputs and the switch to amp connections with solid core silver wire. I had a bit left over from HiFi collective order so why not? Just waiting for some soic to dip winslows and different opas for her to try, if it's not her taste can go into into the JLH or something. However she is happy with one of the amps, the 2107 I think
Could I have your thoughts on the fostex 50s please. I have a feeling some new cans are on the cards for her. I use the BD 880 pros and various Sennnys, 580, 600, 414 in various incarnations so she has tried all these. Do you know if there's any diffrence between the 50 RP mk3 and the 59 RP mk3 N? If that goes ahead I'll be in the market for washed sheeps wool if you have any
Hope your coms are getting back up now All the best Martin

Hi. Chris from California here. At this very moment I am listening to an LP I just received today. It is TOTO 25th Anniversary Live In Amsterdam. It is close to the last performance of the band with bass player Mike Porcaro who was suffering from ALS and died later. They had already lost drummer Jeff Porcaro-Mike's brother-to cocaine related illness. But I digress. I am listening through a stock Technics SL1200MK5 throught a Musical Fidelity X-LPS through a Grotto upgraded(thanks Mike) X-Can V2 through HiFiManHE400S. I have a just purchased Nagaoka MP-300. Wow. The result is brilliant! A coming together of many companies and engineers to produce a smile on my face. The X-LPS and X-CANS V2 are both powered by an X-PSU. I may have to hit Mike up for a cap upgrade for the X-LPS. But for the immediate future I am more than satisfied with what I am hearing from this setup. Happy Holidays from across the pond. Hi Chris, Nice to hear that, still in two minds about the MF. I'm using a JLH phono at the moment through eithe the JLH Chiara or the MF V2 with Mikes mods and advice. Mike may take a few days to reply as he has some coms probs ATM, but he will get back to you. All the best Martin

I think I had one of those from you and Freddypipsq.had the other a long while ago Advice duely noted sure it'll work ok, if you don't try you'll never know and I'll take up your generous offer. Would appreciate some pins if you can find them, I have been unable to find any on fleebay. Most of the traders can not guarantee thier pins will fit (so most likely will not), but I have located my adapt. boards now. Only need pins to fit dip sockets. Many thanks for the help all the best Martin

Hi Mike
Thank for looking Mike. That's some stash of chips there, no wonder you needed a glass. Is that a sun, moon or earth discrete opa I see bty and an orange one too?
I'll take your advice about the soldering, very useful, should be no big deal but if I mess it up I'll shout. Must admit I would have done each pin individualy but I will do it your way as you have the experience and sounds a lot quicker too, thanks. I have some nice leaded silver Cardas Audio solder and some Warton Metals leaded silver stuff too, both flow very nicely, That Warton stuff is so old I must have bought it when I was but a callow youth big two or three kilo reel but I keep mislaying it, no lead subs back then lol
Just one thing that link for the adaptors you sent me, will the pins fit a normal DIP socket that is in the HA little box? Why I ask, I bought some adaptors the other day for a different job and the boards are ok but the pins are square and will not fit into a standard DIP socket. I now have several boards but no pins to fit the dip sockets lol
Thanks again All the best Martin

Ha ha no problems Mike "my eyes are dim I cannot see"
I know the feeling well. Back in the day when I went to local surplus store for electronic bits the owner always used a loupe to identify the tranies, diodes etc and we always had a little smile. Now like you I need a glass to identify bits too🤓😧
All the best Martin

Hi Mike ,
Thanks for the little HA as you say cracking piece of kit. I'll be sorry to see it go, but you know how daughters can wind thier dads around theirlittle fingers 🙂 Had it running for a few days with a white noise cd on repeat its getting better all the time
Before it goes I was going to change the 2017 opa for an AD 8260 but it only come in soic form, however I see you use an adapter in this thread and somewhere in the site you mention a uk firm that can supply these, who are they? Do they only supply adapter sorry will they solder the chip on (probably not, but thought I'd ask) If it's not good in this amp I'll try it in my old trusty Chiara, I'll be able to get the top bock on it then.
All the post Martin

Cant beleive this hasnt been snapped up, one of the best Headphone Amps up to a grand and sells well if you look at MAD site. Maybe give it to my daughter. Think you may need to be a little more pro active to move it, description and pics not every one will be familiar with the amps Just a suggestion Regards Martin

Yes sometime you ask whether it's worth the hassle. That's right Mike saw it in the small community we lived before moving back here. Everyone looked after each other thro floods on boxing day and snowdrifts a few winters later and when my daughter had to spend months at a time in hospital I knew when I came home of an evening to get a change and a shower there would be casserole or a pie on my doorstep to be heated up. If not some one would be knocking the door with a hot meal. Now two new estates on the old market garden and sports field everything's gone. So sad. But the local copper was excellent never saw him till I had a car crash but he was good and sorted thing out without any attitude. Yes they think we are all villains no matter who or what we say, and to be honest a lot of them are bullies. Once I was told that the DVLA info was wrong when I showed the copper the web site and he was right! He would let me off with a caution I said no. Summons me and drove off. They followed me for two miles until I found a roadside coffe caravan sat there in the sun reading my kindle until the cops left, then finished the novel just to be sure lol

Sorry to enlighten you Mike but "I'll have a word" to an informal complaint means I'll do nothing. Always make a formal complaint even if it's dismissed it gets logged. T B H if that guy with the camera shut his mouth and got the other guy to do the same instead of admitting on camera he had littered he would probably walked. Indeed if they had both walked quickly away those dickeads did not have the power to detain I believe.

Yep back in the day was always told you only have to give your details when arrested at the charge desk until then only where you been where you going what you got on you.. If the search then get a ticket even if you empty your pockets yourself.. Finally if you are being questioned under caution ALWAYS get a solicitor and never speak without one The police are slippery customers but all these private security firms make the police look Lilly white It was never like that on CND protests we were told our rights before the start

The first version of the 3d printed x-cite is ready. Isn’t perfect but does it’s job already. Will be refining the design and the second version will come in the near future. Hi, If you have a pattern then why not cut a set out of aluminium or plastic / wood. However at the prices you quote it may be worth getting a load cut commercially and selling them off on fleebay. All the best Martin

Good stuff! Another machine saved. I thought that transistors only have two options, they work or not but don’t work half. Sounds like you have a half working transistor? Yep had this happen to me too. When a tranny is on its way you can get crackles, hiss and what I think the call "motor boating" sounds like a farther little two stroke Martin
