Blimey Martin..... 2008! no wonder I had forgotten I've got a few sealed packets of those Nichicon 100V / 220uF caps somewhere..... I'll look them out. Would you like a few? Mike. Ha ha ha well now I’m a government scrounger living off benefits and handouts while getting my £10.00 Christmas surprise I have time to trawl thro all the old threads while on the buss with my free bus pass and the bus companies free WiFi Oh what a wonderful life. Now if I could get my pension updated on Costa Crime I’d be off for the sun and sangrias. Joking aside those caps would help if you can find them, thanks Mike All the best Martin

Hi Mike, Be interested to see those mods, as would many on here. The work on the DV continues, look for way to replace the 6 film caps without taking out PCB at the mo. Martim Hi Martin, The £125 (seller accepted £115) V2 has arrived and it's immaculate inside and out...... I'll strip it down on Saturday, fit my usual mods as well as the latest tweaks, and post some photos in a separate thread on Sunday. I don't remember ever owning a Darkvoice but apparantly I tweaked one I "owned"? I must search Google for that one!! So many amps in the "sweetspot" of this forum..... it's hard to remember them all with intimacy..... I'll see if I can find the darkvoice thread and may be able to help you with the 6 film caps thang. Mike. Hi Mike, keep missing bits on this thread and then catching up. Here’s the link your your DV rockgrotto.proboards.com/thread/2734/darkvoice-336-kiss-modsAnd this is when you sold it rockgrotto.proboards.com/thread/2308/darkvoice-336i-slightly-modded-ukAll a long time ago I’m looking for a way to get the six caps out and put two Richey caps in without taking the pcb out and not disturbing too many bits. I’ll take out the three psu caps to give me a bit more room and see what I can do, hopefully I can then take out the pre amp bits to as it will just be used as an HA. That way I can have a feed thro from a tape out all the best Martin

OK..... I didn't want to show my hand. I went in with a £95 offer (more than fair low ball offer) and the seller responded with a £120 counter offer....... he wasn't going to budge a lot so I countered with a £115 FINAL offer and he accepted. Trained eye (and ear on the seller) told me that this would be a MINT example (inside and out) so (afaiac) it would have been bad form to offer him £65 (for example)....... I knew what I was buying and he deserved the full asking price (and then some!) May sound cocked up Martin but when you know the seller and the provenance of the item they are selling it's best not to lowball them and give them close to their asking price........ I feel bad for shaving a tenner off of the asking price but will repay that with help with his new amp. Not at all Mike your offer was only £5 higher than this cheapskates suggested starting price of £90.00 lol A way so long as your happy that’s what counts And to Freddy yes always good stragergy to make an offer I too have picked up a couple of amazing bargains Ah well Christmas’s is coming so people selling stuff to buy pressies and after Christmas getting rid of the unwanted stuff lol lol Goddhunting all

An x-can is a very nice starting point with plenty of upgrade options available. I am still more than happy with mine. Agreed! There's a half decent looking X-CAN V2 on ebay at the moment Here Ha ha ha I might be a cheapskate Mike but of you are not open to offers why put it on the add I would ask? Don’t get a bargain if you don’t ask;) Surely you do not offer the asking price if you buying a car. If he was sensible he would negotiated, however if you happy with your purchase who am I to criticise All the best Martin

I must say I have been resisting temptation to buy that Bottlehead Crack. Ha ha ha so have I in the end plumped for a dark voice that needs to be repaired. Just got some new 100v 220uF caps to replace originals but first going to replace the electrolytes and shorting resistors. Tried new glass but no better so guess it’s the caps The speed ball upgrade (or a version of it) I’m told will work on a DV Martin

Thanks chaps, Sounds like the WAD HD63 is my only option then! I've had my search running for a months now, and there hasn't been a single hint of one for sale. I can't even find one going through eBay's history of sales. I think it will be a long wait. On the positive side, it gives me more time to spend with my new Panda HA. Is there anything else I should add to my list? Maybe a top 5, rather than a top 1, will give me more chance to find something?! There was an hd 83 for sale on flea bay b3gining of August this year and one several months before that but not seen for sale often So as you say may be a long wait Good luck Martin

Hi, Back in 2015/16 I have participated in the GB with transistorset for the AKHA Class A headphone amplifier. Now I finally have time to built, but the schematic (and possibly build instructions?) are not in my archive. In this thread the schematic should be on page 4. Do I have to join Photobucket to see the images? Can someone please get me started? Arjen email: social.innovative@gmail.com Hi Arjen I think they are all gone when Dropbox started to charge for hosting some time ago and the forum moved pix hosting. Pink Floyd will know Your best bet for help with your amp is video guy on here try a PM to him, he’s been quite helpful to me and posted a few notes about end of life bits I have a BOM if you need it but no diagram or build notes so when I get to finish mine I’m going to struggle too. Good luck Martin

Hi Shane,
Bit of an update just tried out a HD83 from world audio used to be called world audio design. Check em out on the web and on here. It’s set up for high impedance cans and I’m using sennies Brilliant deep deep base and pin sharp treble but very ruthless if you got a bad track.
This may be my choice for the right price ATM, but if as everyone say the DV is better I don’t know. The DV is certainly cheaper if bought new about half the price of a WD kit. I’d be happy with either, all I can say the 83 is very good and used one is worth thinking about.
All the best

Looking to buy a new headphone amp in a couple weeks time. Headphones are HD650. I've also got some HD600 that I use occasionally. Soundwise - something musical, smooth, refined etc. Budget is £200-£350. S. From all the recent research I’ve just done the DarkVoice seems to be the one to go for especially if you want the full valve sound. Bottlehead crack and WA6 are way over the top for price and the DV seems to be every bit as good. Two simple mods on headfi and on here caps to stop hum and shunt pot. Advantage of DV is a load of valves to roll to suit your listening tastes. I have both senny cans and a Beyerdynamic 880 all seem to work well this amp. If you want trannies try the heed can. I use the BD’s and AKGs when I borrow my mates heed and they are supper with it sennies a bit bright for me with the heed. Have fun choosing All the best Martin

Hi Freddy,
Sounds good to me. The volume pot is never high wattage so 1w will do, it’s my understanding the pot is on the input before the amp so only has low wattage signal. A couple of quality resists will do the job fine. If I’m wrong some will no doubt correct me
All the best Martin

Hi All,
Not sure if this should be here or in headphone bits but here goes, Anyone had any experience of the DV 336se HA good or bad, I’m told they run very hot even for a valve amp. Any worthwhile mods? ATM I have access to a Heed Canamp and use an original JLH Chiara and a temp use (courtesy of my daughter) Mike’s modded project headbox
Your thought greatly appreciated
Martin

It has now been proven that ears are as unique as finger prints so I was right what I said in this thread (cough!) TEN years ago. Ha ha ha how true Mike But I think they were talking about “ear prints” left when a person of dumbious character presses their ear against a window or door at a science of a crime. Good one Mike All the best Martin

Now I found thes people good stuff and not expensive, the wool needs washing and carding but decent stuff and a good price too. www.etsy.com/uk/listing/611594254/raw-jacob-sheep-fleece-100g-fleece-rareTrust that’ll help somebody All the best Martin

Hi, I would email the manufacturers and express you disappointment in the quality of their product and the meanest of the grt. Here in the UK we have a law thar say things must be of merchantable quality and last a reasonable time so you would be covered under the sale of goods act. Maybe you have something similar in your country. Otherwise publish it on all the headphone sites on the net and Facebook to see if you get a response from the makers or sellers. Good luck
