Hi All, Maybe this is one for Alex. Pls excuse me if this is a no brainer I am only a keen beginner. I am just ordering the bits for a few of the boards, to make them "generic" to fit a couple of psu's I intended to make the 500/550ma version using a large wattage resist (or may lower wattage paralleled) for R12/112. Will the listed transistors be OK, especially the 2sc5171 and 2sc1930 used for Q6 & Q106 and the listed diodes (1N4148's)? They will be used on cpu's from 12v to 20volt +/- Any help advice greatly appreciated Martin

Wow, I'm off to sleep and come back to see we've already reached the threshold. Nice. Alan, I'll definitely count you in for the LS devices. I presume everyone else wants one each(LS 352 and LS313) per PCB? Will, could you send the artwork over as it is right now? I've only made presumtions about size (extrapolated on T0220 size), and many PCB makers only quote when they receive gerbers. I'll send you an email that you can reply to. What benefit do you see, bringing the pre/HA in line with the PA? You still won't be able to turn one into the other, right? Cheers, guys, keep'em coming, the more the merrier. Yes pls count me in for any GB of bits ...enough for 4 boards Cheers Martin

Hi Rabbit, Taking the top off .... well it may only be marginal but as heat rises why have an insulated top? The convection currents can then flow upwards unhindered without a top. An ally top would also help some I suppose, but as you say size matters . There is no substitute for bigger/better/more heatsinks. Got mine on the sides , normal straight finned ones I had around in the parts box, not as flashy as Solderdudes ones Martin

Hi, Glad you like them and they arrived fairly quickly too. Pls don't missunderstand me as you say they are a big improvrment over the cooking hp amps on any stereo, music player. It is just I have seen reviews claiming things far beyond thier capabilities. They are good and I enjoy mine very much. As you say you can toast bead on it and that is what will kill it eventually. Have you checked the bias? It may that which is giving the diffrent temps on either side of the amp (whole string on here about bias checking/setting it up). If you don't want to put extra heatsinks on them at least take off the top plastic lid/cover it will let it run a few degrees cooler at least. Enjoy Martin

Radio Spares have all the parts in stock for next day delivery. My neighbour had delivery of them this morning. Just checked all in stock except the irl's which will be in in three weeks. If you are in the UK it will be post free. Please bear in mind these bits will make it a passable amplifier and good valve for the money if you only paid a few puonds for it they will not become a "giant killer" to rival a Slee or a JLH. HappyNew Year Martin

Try this one www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Valve-Class-A-Tube-Headphone-Amplifier-pre-Bravo-V2-UK1-/251206789367?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_HomeAudioHiFi_Amplifiers&hash=item3a7d1768f7Do not pay a lot for one they get VERY hot as standard and are not really good at all. As everyone else has said. BUT if you get a cheapy and go to solderdudes web site there has 12 pages of detailed mods with pix too, then you have a good little amp. Little Bear is another of the G2 clone, you can usually pick these up for less than £10.00 plus about £10.00 postage. Go to an auction late bid a few pounds they come up all the time, just be patient. Mine cost less than £5.00. You MUST do the mods to get anything acceptable tho, if you can solder it is fairly simple, few caps a resit or two, smpsu and a couple of heat sinks. Radio Spares will send you the bits post free with no min order if you open an account. This is a link to solderdudes articles in English The G2 or Bravo are the ones you are looking for but the actual amps/clones have lots of names. Solderdude is a nice guy go and email him if you get an amp he will help you. hoved-fi.dk/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=2335 Hope that helps you get something for less than £18/20.00 all up Martin

Don't bother use the use the TSR switched mode mod it is easy to do and should really improve things from the reviews. If you are in UK RS do a free postage on line sales now, no min order like Farnell. Bits cost less than £10.00 too Martin

Hi All, Solderdude, I have got a G2 type clone from flea-bay for peanuts (p&p cost more than the amp ). I have been going thro the mods on the web (all twelve pages) and here. Solderdude's tutorial I think, it was really easy and informative...thanks, much appreciated. Just waitng for the heater psu bits from RS to complete the transformation. My question is; I have a really small psu, not quite a wall wart but almost, that came with the amp 24v / 2amp (maybe?). Can I use a 24v / 5amp psu that I have spare, from a laptop (I think) or will this be overkill? Plug polarity observed of course. BTW I have a copy of that G2 tutorial (called "Modifying the Indeed G2 hybrid headphone amplifier.") if anyone needs it. I can not seem to find the link now, I think it has gone down. Any help comments appreciated .... thanks. Chiarra is on the bench ATM. Martin Happy Christmas all, or for the B'ham Council "Happy Wintervol", will they ever live that down? Not confused just a Welsh Sheeps

Be careful Adrian the JLH boards on Flea Bay from the orient are definitely NOT like ours in any way at all. If you can find a genuine chiarra board photo copy / scan it before you do anything so you can make copies. (and let me know). Would like to hear your WNA btw not played with one of those Martin

Hi Freddy, Be careful if you are moving the Moon. If you want to plug it into the board's chip space you will need to file a bit off some of the heat sinks and they already run a tiny bit warm so care needs to used when slicing bits off them, it is possible and will fit under your case, just. (a neat and elegant solution if a bit fiddly) Short leads, or even no leads, are best as Mike said. I have mounted mine on fly leads just behind the phones sockets. You pays your money and takes your choice as they say. Martin

Hi Again Freddy, Like you I have a 1995 version of the amp and the easy open case.lol. ;D I too have re-capped the amp (a couple of times) and am about to try some clarity caps or IPLs own version of them. I have also used stripped down IPL silver wire to replace all the link type resisters and all the hook up wiring under the board. (coax type). I have also tried a shunt type vol pot but it didn't work and as I am not an expert I removed it. I did not need the full h/p output as I only have Sennys so I can afford to loose a bit of volume. My next thought was a ladder attenuator from flea bay, as I have had good results with these on pre amps, but I am loathe to loose the front plate.(it looks so retro) and it will need re boxing for that.mmmm. That is a work in progress. BTW the small cap (100nf) on the op amp did you keep it once the you fitted the Moon or has the Moon got this built in (does not need it)? Opinions appreciated When I have time I will post pix. So Johny the party still goes on with the chiarra. Martin

Glad to hear you got it done, scarey moment I bet. I second the fitting of a socket, built mine with a socket from the start. I was frightened that I would cock it up if I soldered straight to the board. Yours may have been a pre-built model. I have ordered the Moon from Mike and am waiting for it to arrive so I can compare to the 823 chip. I also aquired a brown dog adapter for later mods (maybe) Martin

Well yes tend to agree but given that a G3 costs £74.00 incl and has a tranny and this is £58.00 incl with no tranny thought price was comparable (just). As to the wierd Bovine Bile well given the translation services thought it might be Cannine Testicles in Chinese meds ;D They sell R/C bits too (stange combi) just wondering if anyone had any hands on experience of them.
