Hi Mike , Well if you have seen how a big cat in the wild goes from lazing in the sun without a care in the world to totally focused and locked onto what has caught their interest, usually food, you have to respect them. Always makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. The local pet moggy does it too when they see the next mouse lunch But there speaks a cat man. BTW you just piped me to James's Chiaria on fleebay by a few hours grrr Martin

Hi, Waiting impatiently hope the local Chinese carry out knows the boards are coming! Will be all set to go (work permitting) when they arrive. Can compare to my old but gently modded chiaria that uses the discrete component op amp rather than the ic version

Bill has a very annoying health problem at the moment which makes it difficult for him to compose a post. Bill has asked me to request that everyone on both the transistor & board list send him their email & home address via a P.M. so he can send them the amount owed, once he knows what it is, and of course forward the PCBs and Transistors.
" Thank You. Best Regsrds Biil W." Done Alex Thanks

Hi Guys, I'll do an update soon, sorry about the delay. Main thing holding me back is that I was unable to follow the recent changes and I want the be up-to-date to reflect the BOM correctly. I also need to find some time to assemble the BOM for the PSU. The LS devices are not included in the parts set, I'll update the spreadsheet to make that clear. Cheers, Marc Hi Marc, No probs my order is correct then. I thought I may have ordered too many LS sets but as they are not included all is fine no rush. Thanks Martin

Hi Mike, Nice work on the Amp and yes they are pretty colourful and neat inside. Even more so after those neat mods you did. Britain at it's best swinging 60's free festivals and all that They do sound good too. I have two of these mono blocked. I think the circuit board mods may be a little beyond me at the moment but the PSU caps definitely need replacing. I have had 4 Vishays similar to yours for a while, but never got around to replacing them. Now I know you said "Definitely No Kits" but do you have any spare bypass caps that you used on the Vishays, the 1 x polypropylene, 1 x polystyrene, 1 x paper in oil (Russian) and one silvered Mica? (for both amps) Finally what caps did you use to bypass on top of the Txs? Any help appreciated Martin

Hi Martin Unlike many, I have never felt the need to use interconnects containing silver. Kind Regards Alex Hi Alex. I lke the sound and find it better with Valves and the old Quad stuff, but plenty of good OFC stuff around, and that IPL IC2 stuff is so cheap it makes sense if you like the sound. All down to personal tase tho Regards Martin

Hi Bluesboy, Thanks for that link missed that when searching for ICs. that cable you use looks the same as the IPL cable but with 3 conductors instead of two. Good price too, pity it is only in the States. Regards Martin

Hi Martin. Yes, that's correct. You can use either 1N914 or 1N4148 in the CL section. Just remember that in the +VE rail you use the 2SA1930 for the CL, and in the -VE rail you use the 2SC5171 for the CL device. Kind Regards Alex Alex you're a star....thanks. Always a quick reply and right on the mark cheers. I now have my £50.00 order for Mouser after about 6 weeks wait. Thier postage prices are so high if you order under the limit. Now when is the credit card reading date for the month?? Worse still RS did not have the parts so no post free local collection Thanks again Martin

Hi Martin Without the CL section the JLH will be stable with parallel 4,700uFs. They MAY even be stable with parallel 4,700uF and the CL section used, IF the 4,700uFs have been stabilised already via a bench supply for around 48 hours. I haven't verified that though. Regards Alex Hi Alex, More questions I'm affraid. I am about to order the bits for the CL version of the JLH REs to use with this HA board / kit GB. No probs with main bits (using 2200uF caps as you recomended earlier, thanks) but for the CL will these bits be OK? R11 1.8K R12 1.2 R Q6 / 106 2SC5171 / 2SA1930 for the diodes I have plenty of SF14s and 1N914Bs if they will do, or do you recomend using the correct 1N4148Bs. They are only about a penny each anyway. Thanks in advance All the best Martin

Thanks both for the advice. That altronics kit looks nice... now looking for christmas pressy Pity not in the UK now I'll have to pay duty doh I think some of the PSUs I was looking at were dual PSU's ie + and - x2 not +/- PSUs, which may have mixed me up a bit too All the Best Martin

Regards Alex Thanks Alex, I have spare JLH boards so I will build a couple as you suggest with the CL for this project. I may add a CL to one of the built and well run in boards with the 4,700uFs just to see if they are stable, just out of intrest. If I do I'll post the results on the forum I have been thinking of a bench PSU (variable say 1-2 amp max and +/-) but so as not to hi jack this thread I have started another Regards Martin

Hi Alex, Thanks for the information the couple of JLH's I have built seem stable, at least on a DMM reading to 2 decimal places and all seems cool. I have run them for a about 10 days on and of at various voltages fron 12v to 20v (+/-), but with no load of course as I have not yey finished the small Brice HA from HFW mag. I will rebuild the other pair as you suggest to use with this HA including the CL and diffrent caps. Thanks for the info much appreciated. Martin

Thanks Alex,
1) I used SF14s for PSU, not sure of the caps may have been low ESR not sure will have to check.
2) Yes I used caps as described for the JLH RE but as there is no current limiter first stage I used 4.700Ufs, some one recomended that set up I think somewhere on here
Thanks Alex Martin
