The black soot just looks like a collection of dust to me, it sticks to electronic components like a magnet and builds up over the years. Obviously capacitors reliability don't fare well after being close to hot integrated circuitry , the problem is the capacitor has to be close to some IC's for them to be effective at decoupling . Its as if the manufacturers didn't care about long time reliability for their products

If the lens is struggling to read the disc accurately it will probably also cause display issues because the data is corrupt . If one of the diodes have gone you'd know about . If you want to just change them I'd say they are just general purpose 1n4002 going by the B2 marking. Another thing to try is the capacitor for the transport section, these can go dry and cause issues for the laser. without a data sheet I've no idea which it is though

I wouldn't worry too much about the diodes tbh, if its struggling to play discs I'd say the laser unit is on the way out. They lose power after a few years and cause errors, prices can vary from 10 quid up to over a hundred just depending on the unit used. Most cheap ones are KSS-210a/b , I'm not sure where to buy these anymore, if you look on the laser unit it'll be printed on it which it is. Replacing can be fiddly especially if you've never done it before , you may need to adjust the height of the spindle motor puck and the lasers sometimes require the eye pattern setting up on a scope . One thing you can try is applying a thin layer of grease on runner bar, the laser slides along a metal bar whilst reading the disc, sometimes muck can get clogged on here causing problems
Obviously recapping and resoldering any dry joints will help but if the lasers on the way out it'll just get worse until eventually it displays error . Did you try gently cleaning the lens ?

Ah the old TDA1541A, love these chips but with poor implementation they sound shite. With careful grounding layout, proper clean regulators for the three supplies and a good I/V section they sound great. You can try out zero oversampling too

I did manage to find "Dale's" latest collection using a Leica 'C' (Panasonic LF1) on Zenfolio: Leica C
After clicking an image, click again for full size. Nice set , was trying to work out what the Hawks prey was

A farm house in the middle of Derbyshire countryside , the swallows was on and off the cable from the telegraph poles The big cats even more interesting. The tiger says "I'm waiting, no hurry", while the big lion's eyes say "I'm analyzing you and your posture, and will decide how to approach you for eventual consumption." I love cats of all sizes but must admit that big Lion was intimidating , not just his size but that look ,even using a 500mm lens at quite a distance he was looking right at me .

If forums get on my nerves I just take a break, seems such a shame to delete all the posts though What a huge loss it was. Artists tend to be rather sensitive though, and if you treat them poorly, they tend to pack up and go, along with their art. I hope things get sorted and to see more work from the artist

The swallows are interesting, captured in action like that. Given the perch, it looks like it would be near an urban area. A farm house in the middle of Derbyshire countryside , the swallows was on and off the cable from the telegraph poles

After having a long break from audio forums must admit I'm finding it hard to get interested in it again , also couldn't be arsed with some of the drama, far too tedious for me. I had a quick browse on some of the other forums I used to go on, seems most of them have gone stale too. This place used to be buzzing years ago, seems a shame how things have gone

Sorry totally missed this spec sheet says minimum voltage of +/-4.5v so the single rail of 15v shouldn't be a problem. Be interesting to see how they behave in that headphone amp of yours Mike.

Took these whilst on a boat, Gannets fishing in the sea, sorry the quality isn't great, they was quite a distance so have been cropped . I was also honoured to see a Minke whale , the last pics are of the Comorant _DSC8045_openWith-Edit by leo kirkbride, on Flickr _DSC8046_openWith-Edit by leo kirkbride, on Flickr _DSC8058_openWith-Edit-2 by leo kirkbride, on Flickr _DSC8657_openWith-Edit-2 by leo kirkbride, on Flickr _DSC8568_openWith-Edit D500 300+TC-14e iii by leo kirkbride, on Flickr _DSC8566_openWith-Edit by leo kirkbride, on Flickr _DSC9717_openWith by leo kirkbride, on Flickr _DSC9717_openWith-1-Edit by leo kirkbride, on Flickr _DSC9533_openWith-Edit by leo kirkbride, on Flickr

Was photographing Cormorants when this thing screamed by in the distance , didn't get time to increase shutter speed so I had a go at panning it whilst taking a few shots _DSC9743_openWith by leo kirkbride, on Flickr

Thanks mate much appreciated , I've never really thought about trying to make any money out of it tbh. I'll admit the bird in flight shots are not easy especially when the camera + lens weigh just over 4kg, the depth of field is tiny at 400-500mm so I have to try and keep the bird in the centre of the view finder whilst following it. It would be much easier with a small lens but a bird at these distances would look like a dot so its like trying to follow something with a telescope . I'm not really a people person if I'm totally honest , if I was in the company of a group of 5+ that would be considered as a crowd . Somebody recently asked if I'd be the photographer at their wedding, it was hard not to say F*** that ! I politely declined . Anyway we are currently in Whitby again until Saturday, lots of people around here doing the usual say cheese shots and bloody selfies , I really don't understand the fascination feeling the need to get your own stupid face in every photo. At the local pavilion there was a Steampunk event on, not really my thing but people was dressed up in some unusual looking outfits . This is probably the first person I've ever photographed , I don't have a portrait lens so just used a wide angled one I use for landscape _DSC7822_openWith by leo kirkbride, on Flickr
