At the end of the day isn't it who is most happy longest? The Mac/Windoze argument is really a non-issue. I don't see the suicide rate for Mac users as being appreciably higher, but I do know a LOT of musicians that wouldn't own anything else.
That is why I too am spending much less time online arguing, and much more smiling about the wonderful music that is easier to enjoy than ever before. Still, the occasional review of what others whose ears I trust say (Frans, Alex, Leo, Jeffc, jkeny Mike,............), lets me "improve" my system and remove ever more doubt that inviting someone over from the other camp will not cause bleeding ears, impotence or asphyxia.
I use iTunes for most of my listening and Cubase for my audio engineering.

The engineers still solved the problem. The QC guy with the blow job never thought of it until the beeps started waking him up in regular intervals.

My HiFi gear has always been close together - I have never used monoblock amps next to the speakers, so half meter cables were all that I ever needed. I sold MonsterCable for a while, so I had access to good plugs. I have never heard any difference in my 0.5m cables regardless if Monster, coax, twisted pair silver or tubes filled with mercury (modelled after a van den Hul experiment).
My experience has been that differences in sound in other systems with longer interconnects was always an RC, LC or RCL effect that was explainable based on the (high) input impedance of a tube buffer stage/transformer/magnetic phono cartridge and unfavorable cable geometry. I have never been "surprised" by a cable result that I could not explain.
Most of my interconnects are now low capacitance, shielded, low microphonic, balanced microphone cables. I solder both ground lines and the shield together so there is no "balance" anymore. I consider the consistent ground to be the most critical connection in the audio chain. I think that RCA connectors are the most stupid invention in the history of electronics. What idiot invented a connector that disconnects the ground first?

You want me to run for pres? Sometimes I think I need to get back to America more often. I really try to use clean american english when I post. Actually, I would like you to read "The Road to Omaha" by Robert Ludlum. I think that you could get inspired and find a job afterwards. Actually I was referring to the entitlement mentality of a certain political party that wins additional votes by undermining work ethic with welfare. Before election time handouts become much more prevalent.

some new horn speakers (2 way 12" woofer/Tractrix treble mid/high horn, BMS coax driver), a new HP amp (kind of like a G2 but with the 12AU7 driven with real voltage), a new pre amp for my turntable (solid state discrete), a rebuild of my main systems 2x 60W tube power amp with MOSFET driver/inverter stage (volume pot and source switching/RCA connectors).
I will also be experimenting with power supplies for my mobile recording gear. If there is any time left over, I will try to build some electrostatic headphones just to see how far that I can get before frying my ears.

Don't worry about Z. There is an election coming up this year and there is a party in the US that likes blow sugar where the sun doesn't shine to get votes. The jobless minorities are the only place that the incumbent president can get additional votes. Yes, we can (make them even more dependent on welfare!)
I think Z has some real possibilities this year......

Raising the impedance of the amp also changes the frequency response. The output stage feeds a resistor (in the amp) and a coil creating a RL circuit. With boutique cables, mentionable capacitance also leaks into the equation.
It has been known for a long time in the speaker world that you have to calculate the low frequency box parameters while considering the resistance of the speaker cable.
My personal opinion is that the resistor belongs in the PHONES not the amp. Every switch that the amp doesn't need improves the long-term stability. My 701s currently have 2 120 ohm resistors soldered in the jack.
That all being said, the mod that offered the most for the 701 was making the ear cushions about 1cm thinner. The bass response now matches the rest of the presentation. Acoustical, musical instruments give me a similar impression to what I hear on stage.

Flourescents contain a fair amount of mercury, that makes them dangerous and expensive in production and recycling. Screw mount flourescents die after about a year of use in areas where they are turned on and off frequently.
The ecological balance SUCKS for energy saving lighting schemes - except LEDs which are simply too expensive and the good old meter long flourescent buld that actually does last a long time.

Kim Jong Ill is now Kim Jong Dead.
North Korea is where they are today ONLY because the Chinese have kept a protective cover for them. As the Chinese government has not changed, we can expect very little in change. The population continues to starve and the first nuclear catastrophe is around the corner due to lack of funding.....

Wow, I think that white powder causes withdrawal symptoms. Some pretty aggressive stuff.
I for one am VERY interested in real measurements. Best case, the listening tests are confirmed, worst case, there continued´s to be no light shed on why listening and measurements do not coincide.
I think that it would be cool to know what, why and how. Then we have the knowledge to prevent problems before they occur.

That thread is the same dumb stuff as every other "discussion". Both sides repeat the same arguments and at the end I think that they are both wrong.
IF cables make a difference, then it is due to parameters that cables can have: impedance capacitance shielding inductance reactance resonance
All of these things can be isolated and tested, but neither side does. They just piss on each others legs. Sometimes they even bring up bozo analog arguments for digital data.
With all of the brilliant minds available, I find the cable discussions as tiresome as they were 30 years ago. The science is there. There are enough top end studios that make money by avoiding problems. Why isn't it used in consumer audio? I think that I have a pretty good idea..........$$$$$

It is the elected officials that are supposed to make laws to govern the interests of the citizens, not the interest on the investment.
The real problem is that money is being made with money. The transactions do not have an equal product value behind them. As a citizen, I expect laws to be passed that protect jobs. Unfortunately, as we saw in the 2008 crash, many countries had seriously invested in this crap shoot mentality. Iceland essentially went under, Greece has little or no hope and Spain, Italy and Portugal could follow. The US of A is also essentially bankrupt, but has the gall to point a finger at Europe.
We need a financial revolution. The citizens would have to stop using credit and remove their money from the offending banks (there are a couple of good ones out there). Kick the bastards in the balls. It is the only language that they understand!

One of the biggest problems that early digital had was the resonances (below 30K) from early microphones that were covered up in the LP process. Even current analog recordings benefit greatly from the newer generation microphones designed for better "digital compatibility".

I play records with real instruments and voices and adjust for "realistic" sibilance, trumpet brilliance and violin sound. It is close enough when the instruments sound right. I don't need to measure anything
