This tube is really good, very open, clear, precise low and not too dark. Configuration with 10ohm HD650. The reflector is very good but more profound. Should I try a 990 Beyer I don't know where it was produced and the date These are the same Philips E88CC SQ's that I also use. They are made by Philips in Heerlen (NL) in the early 60's. They are NOT French tubes, but the packaging in the pics above is in French because they have sold the tubes also in France. Markings on the tubes vary slightly for each batch. Congratulations: These tubes really ROCK. Not only in the Project Sunrise. They sound at least as good in the X-Can V3, but it's very hard to find a matched pair of these tubes.

Just tried a 6N27P Russian tube, it's a sort of ECC86 and 6GM8, it's not as bassy as the 6N23P selected by mike, but all the others aspects are improved, especially dynamics and details, there's big slammm it's excellent... (it's exactly this tube : www.siberian-shop.com/6n27p-ecc86-6gm8-tube-very-rare-double-triode-nos-1960s-p-365.html). I'm currently listening "Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Part Two)" with a Sony MDR-SA5000... great track to test the SQ You can add 6GM8 and ECC86 on the compatibility list of valves working with the project sunrise...

Hello fellow members,
I am new here and to tube sound. I am planning to get one project sunrise kit. Is the tube 6N23P available from garage1217 good to start with or should i get a better one. My listening preference is towards base than the highs.
Thanks

Thanks The 6N23P available with the sunrise are already a great option compared all the other chinese stock tubes furnished with the majority of DIY Amps... IMO you can't go wrong with theses tubes, they're better than the JJ Gold pins...

Hi, fellas! I'm also new here, but not to Head-Fi and certainly not to audio. I bought a Project Sunrise kit from Jeremy about two weeks ago. It took me all of maybe three hours to build and another couple of hours to sort (I had swapped a couple of resistors - thanks for helping me on that, Jeremy!). Once working as it should, I found the Sunrise to be a wonderful little amp! The stock Reflector tube is no slouch, but I have an assortment of ECC88 tubes, and am wont to roll! Right now I'm listening with a Telefunken ECC88, and I'm enjoying it. The difference between that tube and the Reflector is subtle, and totally subjective. I would not say one is "better" than the other. I will say that the Sunrise has the ability to "inform" - it sounds as good as the source and the headphone. If you use excellent on either end, that's what you'll hear. There's a bigger difference there than there is with tube rolling, IMHO (unless you get a really crappy tube, of course!). It is a really, really good amp!

It is a lovely amp. I'm very impressed with mine as well and drives the DT990 with real authority.
I'm very fussy as well with my gear, but this amp has remained in my set up.
Really good value.

Thanks XTRProf! Does anyone know if the 1980s sound as good as the 1969?
