They are very good. Normally, I get quite worried about poor measurements and become a bit insecure about it, but they genuinely sound great in spite of whatever is 'wrong' with them.
I'm quite chuffed with the Neco in particular and since it has such a long battery life, power just isn't a problem. At least the voltage isn't dropping too low for a very long time; even driving DT990.
It also no longer sounds like a typical 'portable'. (A bit mean in the bass area and not 'slamming' as hard as a wired in amp) You'd swear that the Neco was plugged in!!

Ian Ian, We must remember that the "NECO" we keep referring to is actually a CMOY so the same type of performance will be replicated in any CMOY type amp.... good news for CMOY owners who happen to have a couple of water towers kicking about I was searching for my water tower versions of the OPA627 today with no luck.... I've probably stuck them up in the rafters in a box.... will have a good "rafter" clean out next weekend.... I KNOW (for a fact) that I have a couple of hundred of them somewhere.... at the time DIP8 was the trend and metal cans (TO-99) weren't being used in amps (were not trendy!) and I got a job lot CHEAP...... stuffed them away somewhere and am now EAGER to find them "BP" grade too.... I also bought a box of TO-99 OPA 637 BP at the time..... I'll rip the joint apart but I WILL find them Have you seen the price of these things now?!?!?!....... JESUS!!!

Mike They are a very good, fast and low distortion I.C. but remember that they are not unity gain stable, and need to be used with a minimum gain of 5 for non inverting applications, and a minimum gain of 4 for inverting applications. Alex

Alex I am perfectly aware of their capabilities.... I bought a box of each Was just a matter of time

OPA111, OPA627 and OPA637 have the same type of FET input configuration (Difet topolgy). This is a FET with 2 (internal)gates instead of only 1 and their positive properties are stability and extremely low input currents (in the region of tens of pA).
OPA111 was one of the first in the OPA range using this technique. After that many, many types using DiFET topology followed. The OPA627 is it's successor with higher specs.

For future reference though Frans, they may not "appear" that good on paper but they sound pretty damned good in a little Cmoy

Mike, I did not think of the Solo since it is fed 24 VDC. I was under the impression the max voltage the OPA111BM could take was +/- 10 VDC.

They are rather good. I'm using two Necos as my reference portables now. One at gain 5 with 8610 and one at gain 3 with the twin towers. I prefer the towers without a doubt.
