BY THE WAY:
Do you guys hear difference on properly ripped 320bit MP3's and CD on your headphone gear, when using a proper dac?
I am going to rip some CD's to full loss-less WMA... WMA is very good format.
Then i use media player also, nicer than foobar i min opinion.

I remember reading a discussion over 12 months ago by some car audio buffs trying to build in car computer based playback systems regarding WMA "lossless" - they found SQ problems and further investigation revealed that all info over 15KHz was missing from the WMA "lossless" files - I have not checked this for myself, merely reporting what I read. If you want to test it for yourself, try converting the WMA files back to .wav and also rip in .wav then run an md5 checksummer over both files. Agreed, WMP is "eye candy" but too fussy over DRM and too keen to take over everything, nearly as bad as Real player - I avoid it wherever possible. Winamp is pretty good and has quite a good few plugins for using ASIO etc and at least Time Warner/AOL seem to have left the programming team fairly much to themselves and not (apparently) meddled too much. If you want comparisons of various formats, have a look on the hydrogenaudio forums - most of the issues have been thrashed out many times. There are also other threads on this forum on these topics.

CRISIS! I thought my problems had been sorted by using external CDPLAYER with good signal cables, vs my soundcard. But I noticed, though its alot more difficult to notice now, the 'schreezing' in my headphones on some rock sound tracks. f**k sake, is this because the AKG's are still quite new? I just can't believe that though..... or are they 'bust'?? Have they been blown you think? Can AKG K 701 handle max volume on the x-can? If this expensive and so big dac as the x-dac v3 DON't sort my problems I will kill somebody Still, headphones are nice, and I was little bit blown away with the Miles davis CD, even on 'cheap' cdplayer, maybe dac makes everything nirvana, BUT its still not like that Krell stereo revelation I hoped it would be. But again, that is my 'personal' problem. Will be nice to see how good PC games become on this audio setup. I can honestly not believe that WMA lossless is not lossless and caps at 15khertz. I dont want many different audio apps on my computer. I could live with latest winamp, but wmp is nice eyecandy .... hehe. easy to use. and integrated into OS. WMA is newer than mp3, thought to be the best. 192kbit WMA = 256kbit mp3 almost.

"If this expensive and so big dac as the x-dac v3 DON't sort my problems I will kill somebody" Preferably yourself ? Give the headphones further time to free up,too. Try some other headphones to see if they have similar problems, then process of elimination. Use your diagnostic skills ! SandyK

I've said it a hundred times ... use FLAC - it's free, works with winamp among many other players, and actually gives good results. Alternatively, use WAV .. not like hard disc space costs that much nowadays.

I've had the K701's on the output of one of my main hi-fi speaker amps with a diy attenuation box inbetween, believe me this would give out much more power than the X-cans, my hearing would certainly blow way before the cans! Give the headphones a LOT more burn in, you have to remember these headphones are very revealing, if you feed them shit then be prepared for your ears to bleed

I use a modified Squeezebox3 feeding my diy dacs by I2S, music is mainly WAV but there is also monkeys audio and FLAC too. Sounds great here through either the headphone rig or main speaker system
