SandyK, sent you a PM on mods for the X-Dac V3. Thanks. Get that soldering iron out Miguel, do you have the X-Dac V3? Yes but I am trying to decide where to start at! To get the biggest bang for my money.

All those mods wouldn't be too expensive and certainly worth doing starting with the psu up to the output stage mods. It would be a lot better than say just replacing it with different external dac costing a bit more. He's sorted out all the area's that was skimped on in the original design, the dac chip used in the X-dac V3 is a very good part, the stock unit will have this high quality sound wanting to be unleashed
The V3 looks a nice little unit with a lot of potential, it just needs some time and effort spending on it

May want to skip the 701s unless you can double your amp budget. 701s are notorious for bringing 500 dollar amps to their knees. I have an RSA Raptor and it does well but the 650s are my headphone of choice. 701s have an incredible sound stage but they just don't sound very natural. There is plenty of bass but there is no bass impact and it just doesn't sound realistic. 650s are also easier to drive. They sound great out of my Pico, and fantastic out of the Raptor. I think the 650s will give you many more amp choices as well. Just pick one SS or Tubed and go for it. If you get a tube amp you may want to stick to brighter dynamic tubes though, but thats part of the fun.

I am very happy with my K701 on Solo (or WNA MKII HA). Grüß Gott, Fritz from the land of the Governator! I'm sure you're happy with the Solo. However, after shelling out for the 701 I've been ordered to keep the spending at bay a little... I have pretty much narrowed my choices down to either the Little Dot Mk3, or the MingDa MC66, for no reasons other than physical attraction ;D Now, I hate buying stuff without listening to it first, but no brick&mortar store has got those babies on the shelf. Therefore I'm trying to solicit as many opinions from ear-people as I can. So, if anyone could give their thoughts and opinions (first-hand or speculative) about using either of those two for driving the K701 I'd be very grateful indeed. Cheers Steffen.
