Hello everyone. New to this forum so will say Hi and I'm Mark Always been a fan of the X Series (owned a X-10D before, but stupidly sold it) now I'm wanting to buy the X Series I always wanted and improve them. As the title says I have just purchased X cans V2 and want to improve it and maybe use it as a temporary pre amp if it is good in this situation (any thoughts or experiences welcome ) For now my problem is the PSU (wall wart) that came with the X Cans, the primary winding has gone OC on the PSU. Have searched these forums and seen the little pinkie and the substitute from Maplin. I need to replace mine, but want to do it cheap for now, and Maplin has discontinued the PSU, can anyone point me in the direction to purchase a suitable PSU cheap? Thank you in advance

Thank you in advance Hi Mark, Had a quick look around and this is a 1 amp plug and play replacement that should help you out www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AC-AC-MAINS-POWER-ADAPTOR-SUPPLY-CHARGER-PSU-1A-1AMP-1000MA-12V-12-VOLT-2-1MM-/170834979541?pt=UK_ConsumerElectronics_PowerAdaptors_SM&hash=item27c68eead5#ht_2307wt_1145It is 1000mA, has the 2.1mm plug and Stontronics is a brand that I know and trust. Hope this helps. Mike.

Forgot to add..... that is a perfect replacement for the stock 500mA wallwart. Just plug it in and it will work. The additional 500mA headroom will bring audible benefits to the sound quality.
Mike.

Thanks for the reply Mike, Will be ordering it later on in the week. Only just received the X-Cans V2 as purchased it faulty. Had a quick look under the hood today to check it out, looks unmodified no scorching or over heating on the PCB anywhere. So plan is, take it in to work, reflow all the solder, clean the POT up same with connections, get some IPA on the PCB after to give it a good clean. Then hook it upto the variac and confirm it works and everything is fine. If all is fine will order. Will put some before and after pictures up. On a separate note how does the X-Can fair as a pre-amp? At the moment I am using my Sony STR-DA1200es receiver as my main amp, put it has PRE in's so would like to try if experience is good. Eventual plan is to get hold of some X-A50s

Sounds like a challenge I'd love to get hold of the X-Pre, but I don't see them come up for sale much and from a glance they they don't seem all too different. Will just carry on with the X2 for now.

Mark, I got rid of my XPre years ago simply because I only needed one input and one output, and with the help of this forum i turned my X Cans V2 into an exceptional Pre-amp/headphone amp that I am still using today (I Love it) The problem with using the V2 as a pre without modification is there is no control over the volume. Link below if you want to try what I did? rockgrotto.proboards.com/thread/6866/v2-output
