This guy Swenson is amazing, but the last part of the thread title here "...in the right order" is the clue to everything.

This guy Swenson is amazing, but the last part of the thread title here "...in the right order" is the clue to everything. Dale I would like to see some screen grabs to show what he is talking about. (Coming soon ?) I would also like to see further info from the likes of Charles Hansen from Ayre Acoustics, and Gordon Rankin, who many regard as the father of Async USB. They are both saying fairly similar things to John Swenson. I suspect that commercial realities are keeping much of this area a mystery ? See also www.audiostream.com/content/draft (Hansen and Rankin discussion) Regards Alex

"...I suspect that commercial realities are keeping much of this area a mystery ?" Regards Alex Well, that's a scary (but true) thought. But since you've tracked a lot of the bits and pieces and many others here remember things they've read, it seems like what we need is a skeleton key blog to index the various sources for quick reference. And the more complete that index is, the closer anyone can get to the core knowledge. The use of that knowledge is copyrighted and/or patented in some cases, but just building an index to it can't be a problem.

Gordon's observation should have been obvious to everyone. We who use zips for commercial data know that the computer can wait for data packets whenever there's a demand on the I/O for other data to be processed. But real time listening can't have time waits, so the buffering in each player has to absorb the glitches, and sometimes you just have to shut everything down except the music player. Gordon jumped on that, but he did a lot more besides. I don't know if Swenson is working with anyone, but it sure would be interesting to know if any of these guys are collaborating.
Remember when CD was established at 44k and then the avalanche came? Looks to me with Sony getting out ahead on double DSD that everyone else may follow, and then whatever standards Sony subscribes to we may be stuck with. The money will follow the first big success. (just speculating)

Hi Dale Given that Martin Colloms and Barry Diament have both confirmed that the Optical device and power supplies do indeed matter, it should be obvious that none of these guys have all the answers. It would appear that we need to put all of the pieces together like in a jigsaw puzzle., as you suggested recently.
Kind Regards Alex
