OMEG pot: yes one of those...........plastic shaft alu knobs....it does hum without touching it with volume on amp up but gets worse if i touch it and also if you tap that right switch you get a noise too......i asked which tabs were earth so i could '' well earth '' it to chasis, he said they don't have an earth on them !!!!...........i'm sure thet must.......anyway i've asked for my cash back (no reply as yet) bit fed up of it all to be honest. I took the alu knob offbut if i go near the nut it does it too.....

I would "seriously" take it up with the guy who designed / built it, you're clearly not happy with it and if he's a decent bloke he should refund you. If he turns out to be an arsehole then post his details here. Sometimes it's not worth chasing your losses and spending MORE money in an attempt to turn a sow's ear into a silk purse..... Put this one down to a "BAD" decision and try and get your money back. A guy dealing out of dustbins does not sound ideal and I would tend to give him a very wide berth (AFTER I had appeared in one of his dustbins and kicked the shite out of him when he opened the lid)...... from looking at the general "build" I'm thinking that the "pot" is the least of your worries...... the wiring is RFI city....... it's far from ideal.
I don't want to get involved in the "fix" as it would take more than a couple of minutes to implement..... this is one of those occasions when you return the item for a full refund.... it clearly doesn't work as it should do (ie: a tone control shouldn't buzz / hum) so he should give you your money back AND give it back willingly, if he's a gent.
OMEG pots are UK made and not too bad..... I am thinking there's instability in the circuit somewhere.... probably (possibly) caused by lead inductance / RFI.
Mike.

By the way..... I can tell that he has put his best into it by the way he has "dressed" the Phono socket mounting bolts (to line up with each other).... the actual workmanship / pride looks spot on but the implementation of part placement may be slightly skewed.... the actual "build" quality appears to be very good.
Mike.

I took the alu knob offbut if i go near the nut it does it too..... I missed that one....... send it back. You've got RFI city in there. The only "sellotape" fix would be to replace the plastic front and rear panels with aluminium ones which would provide a better shield. I would, personally, camp out in his dustbin and ask for a refund. If he says no then get back to us All the best, Mike.

I'll give him a week, but after that not sure what to do, the thing is, he says he's going to build one for himself soon and that it work fine in his set up , well if that's the case, he sould just offer to take it back. He has a good job so is not short of a bob or two, so i'll wait for a bit just in case he's on holiday or something. Cheers for all your support and knowlege so far guys.

The best possible result. I'm glad it worked out for you. Take your time before parting with your folding in future. Buy in haste...... REPENT at leisure. Mike.
